Well, Iomega is pushing the boundaries of desktop storage with the announcement of the 1TB XL Series Hard Drive, a compact four-drive enclosure. Yep, thats 1 Terabyte of disk space for you to store up to 18,500 hours of music, 4,000,000 photos, or 1,500 hours of video.

The drive was initially designed for creative service professionals like video editors who need both performance and capacity. But then again with the emergence of rich media, you can never have enough space for your high resolution photos, video projects and music collection.

The new Iomega XL Series drive connects to the host PC through one of its three built-in interfaces: FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 and is compatible with both PC and Mac platforms.

The enclosure measures up at 6.42" x 7.99" x 12.52" (W x H x L) and contains four 250GB, 7200 rpm SATA drives with 8MB buffers.

It is available starting today for $899.95 at iomega.com.

Compatibility

The Iomega(R) Desktop Hard Drive XL Series is compatible with Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional. It is also compatible with Mac OS 10.1 or higher on Mac G3 (blue and white G3 models only), Mac G4 or iMac with built-in USB or FireWire connection.
