D-Link 3G Surveillance Camera

D-Link 3G Surveillance CameraD-Link launched the new D-Link Internet Camera with 3G compatibility, enabling consumers to view live video streams from a 3G cell phone. The camera can be connected to a wired or wireless 802.11 b/g network and a live feed from the camera can be viewed over a 3G cellular network on a compatible cell phone capable of playing 3GPP format video.

This is a very convenient way of remotely monitoring your home or business, as long as you are in the 3G coverage area of your cellular provider. A very useful addition to your home security kitbag, so you can monitor your house when on a vacation, for example. The base advantage is that you don't need to be in front of a PC. You get real-time video right on your mobile!

At 640x480 resolution video and supported JPEG or MPEG-4 compression rates, the quality of video good enough. Of course, if you don't want to fatten your phone bill by downloading streaming video, you also have the option to view the video on a network attached computer, and offers support for RealPlayer 10.5 and QuickTime 6.5 for viewing. You can either plug it into a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port or 802.11 b/g wireless LAN.

The D-Link Internet Camera comes bundled with a Windows-only surveillance software.
