Cisco & Apple Reach Agreement on iPhone Trademark
Late last night Apple and Cisco announced that they had resolved their dispute over the use of the iPhone trademark. This really comes as no surprise as most of us were expecting this to be settled out of court. Under the terms of the new agreement, both companies are free to use the trademark on their products throughout the world. Both Cisco and Apple acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each will immediately end any pending actions or lawsuits against the other party regarding the lawsuit. Additionally, Cisco and Apple are to explore opportunities for interoperability in terms of security and consumer and enterpirse communications. Other terms of the agreement are confidential, so it is not clear how much Apple probably paid Cisco to be able to use the trademark. We can only assume they made them a nice cash offer.
