China to Make 605 Million Cell Phones in 2008By Chris - 08/16/2008 4:40:45 PM |

CCID Consulting from China is expecting a huge amount of cell phones to be manufactured in China by the end of 2008. 605 Million cell phones are expected to arrive from Chinese manufacturers this year. That’s a 55 million more handsets produced than last year.
Of those 605 million units, 400 million will be sent to other countries while 205 million units will be sold in China.I wonder if CCID also counted the knock-offs here and the illegal. I’d say they surely didn’t.
In the first half of 2008, Chinese manufacturers have made 279 million handsets for all of the top five phone sellers: Nokia, Samsung, Motoroala, Sony Ericsson and LG.That number represents 65% of global production for them in 2008. In previous years 70-80% of all handsets made for the top five companies were made in China in the first six months.
