If you are one of the recently counted 143 million new mobile subscribers in China, then you’ll be happy to know that 3G is coming. Not exactly anytime soon but they are moving in the right direction.
The Chinese Government has announced they will be releasing 3 licenses for 3G networks in the near future. One of the conditions is the merger between two important Chinese carriers, China Unicom and Netcom. The other condition would be for China Telecom which is the biggest fix-line carrier, to buy out the CDMA network from Unicom.
In other words, 3G is in the future of China. A distant, foggy future. Probably it’s the same future in which AT&T already went to 3.5-4G or higher.
