Remember the Lenovo Ophone that was supposed to land in China last quarter and didn’t?  Looks it wasn’t really buried deep and the Android-powered smartphone is getting ready for a release on the 17th of this month, a good day to do it since it is the World Communications Day.  Seen as a direct competitor to the millions of iPhones that have already found their way unofficially to China, the Lenovo Ophone will support 3G, GSM, and LTE-based 4G networks along with China’s own TD-SCDMA system.  China Mobile will also provide a host of services to its customers including search and on-demand TV services.  All this sounds fine, but with the Chinese people being so in love with the iPhone, it remains to be seen if the Ophone will really make a difference or not.
