Tablet PC Modbook From a Converted MacBook?

|

modbook.jpg
Apple's MacBook is a proof to what thinking outside of the box means. It's a very reliable laptop for a multitude o situations. What it isn't is a tablet PC. Although tablet PCs have their popularity among a certain share of the market, Apple hasn't created any tablets (yet).

Axiotron took a MacBook and converted it into a tablet called the Modbook. What they simply did is remove the keyboard, mouse pad and LCD and replaced them with an LCD digitized display and a pen to work on that new surface. This is not a touch screen so your finger won't work. The price for which such a piece of equipment retails is $2.279. Too much you say? I agree.

I could give you specs but I won't because this machine uses everything from that original MacBook. Axiotron haven't changed anything under the hood and everything is still there working as it should. The OS is still a Mac OS X with no modifications other than adding the pen drivers.

So I think a better move would be waiting for an official Apple tablet. I am sure they aren't ignoring that segment of the market. I'd certainly wouldn't pay extra for turning my MacBook into something I can't fully use. What do I mean? I would miss the keyboard, and I'd hate the fact I can't switch from landscape to portrait or the fact that the new LCD is not as mobile as expected from a tablet. And if you really really need that tablet PC, you'd better get an extra one instead of turning your Apple into a mutant. That way you will benefit from both worlds. The artist in you will definitely choose!

Rumored: Asus Eee PC to Go to 11 Inch

|

Asus have created the Eee PC, a laptop designed to be highly portable, useful and cheap. Although I'd see the Eee as backup to any real computer or notebook I'd own, I have to admit it's a very interesting and challenging concept.

After the 7 inch version they have released the Eee PC 900 and it's rumored they are getting ready to launch an 11 inch version of this bestseller laptop by the end of this year. We don't have any details but I am certain they will have tp add extra features to make it a decent competitor of laptops like the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 I showed you before.

I am also interested in what the new Eee will go for. Instead of the 9 inch you'd be better off with any 15 inch laptop for the same price. The 11 inch Eee PC will be even higher priced I am sure, and I predict you could be way better off with a 15 inch Asus laptop instead. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I wonder how the announced Eee TV (E-TV), Eee desktop (E-DT), and Eee monitor are going to be like and if Eee will become a stronger and more envied brand.

Dell to Launch Environment Friendly PC

|

I am on an environmental writing spree today and after telling you all about the new Credo accessories I simply have to show you what Dell has in store for its buyers. The picture above is the eco-friendly PC which is said to be 70% less energy consumer and 81% smaller than a mini tower Dell PC (but bigger than the Asus EEE). Michael Dell says about it: "These are important issues. When you think about our industry, we produce 260 million computers a year. There's a responsibility that comes with that."

It's only logical for Dell to invest more and more in electronics, specifically in laptops and desktops, meant to reduce overall energy consumption. Further more whether you own one of their products or not, you can be part of this ecological movement by joining one of their programs: "Plant a Tree for Me" (for private buyers) or "Plant a Forest for Me," (for companies).

wind.jpg MSI or Micro-Star International, a computer hardware manufacturer most well known for desktop computer motherboards but also design and manufacture graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices, has introduced its newest innovation, the Wind series notebooks.

This is the company's contender for ultra-portable and low-cost PC's like Asustek Computer's Eee PC. The Wind will feature an 8.9 or 10-inch display with 1024×600 resolution. In addition, it will include a 2.5-inch hard drive with storage capacity of 80GB and will probably weigh about 1kg. The notebooks will include Windows XP and hasn't mentioned support for Linux. It is expected to be priced at around 299-699 Euros (US$470-1099).
