Google Reader iPhone Edition

Google Reader

Jumping into the "me-too" iPhone wagon, the Google Reader now boasts an iPhone version that works mighty fine on other phones. The thing that irks me is putting an iPhone tag to everything these days, although I guess that's one way companies can get any attention. Not that Google wants it, but still -- it's free publicity for Apple as well.

Anyway, the iPhone Google Reader is now out in beta (what else?), and provides a simple list view that lets you scroll through the feeds and entries. Check it out at Google Reader (iPhone). It works fine on the Nokia N95 and the Nokia N800 tablet.

Are you a talented smart phone application developer? Then you will be pleased to find out BlackBerry is thinking about you. Well not that specifically, but still! Tomorrow in Orlando BlackBerry will announce the $150 Million BlackBerry Partners Fund backed up by Research In Motion, the RBC and Thomson Reuters.

This is actually great news for all smart cell phone users out there. More money means better quality of next applications designed for future BlackBerries. That also mean competition will have to do the same thing. Google started a $10 million fund in November and Apple have come up with the $100 million iFund in March. Besides competing for better hardware products they all realize the software is so important too for their future in the mobile business.

200px-Sprint_Nextel_logo.svg.pngSprint and Google have announced their partnership for integrating Google apps and services into Sprint's mobile services. Along with this deal, Google will now become Sprint's primary mobile search provider. This is a great news as this will make Internet experience for Sprint users much more dynamic. Of course, also with this deal, Google has taken another step towards the mobile market.

This service, as mentioned, will make Google become the default search provides for web search and local search (GPS-enabled) on the Sprint portal on customers' current web-enabled Sprint phones as well as new devices. Also, Google Maps for mobile will be featured in Sprint handsets and also allows YouTube to be accessible to Sprint users.

Google to Sue Verizon

Now that Google has celebrated Yahoo's blown deal with Microsoft, they can go after Verizon Wireless.

This carrier's bid on the 700Mhz bandwidth has been the winning bid and Verizon will make full use of it. What they aren't respecting, according to Google, is the open access rule. Open access means that all applications and all devices, whether or not provided by the owner of the bandwidth, have to be able to function freely in any newly acquired bandwidth.

Verizon hasn't disclosed yet what they are preparing for that spectrum but if their policy is to limit access to if the hardware/software isn't purchased from them isn't exactly fair. I don't know what Google is pursuing this but clearly whatever Verizon has in mind, Google wants to be in it somehow. Is it the GPhone?

No matter what cell phone we use, no matter what new dektop or ultra-portable notebook gets invented and released, no matter whether a PC is legal in Cuba or not, names like Yahoo, Microsoft, Apple or Google will always try to get involved in those markets.

This year the Yahoo takeover by Microsoft (hostile or soft) has been one of the headlines over the internet. Whether you were online on your new smart phone or on your company's laptop you must have heard about it. All that hassle and all the talk about how, when and where will this deal finally be signed.

But what a shocker. Microsoft will no longer pursue their Yahoo acquisition. So they say at least for now. How will that impact the mobile world? We'll just have to wait and see! As for now the only winner of this completed deal has one name: Google!
