I am still in awe after what I've been reading and writing about the brand new RIM creation. I am talking about the BlackBerry 9000. The Bold. Possibly one of the worthiest adversary of the future 3G iPhone. Besidest those two, there's also HTC Touch Diamond, which has to be mentioned out of fairness to the game. And this one will also have their piece of the pie as it's an outstanding piece of engineering.

According to rumors the future of RIM is even brighter. The BlackBerry 9500 Thunder is coming to town. It's the next generation of BlackBerries. All touch and no keyboard (I hope purchase of an additional keyboard is going to be an option). What will the Touch do? Well it will be served by Verizon WIreless in the USA and by Vodafone in Europe. What will it deliver? 3G EV-DO Rev. C / GSM HSPA support, everything else and more! That's about all the details we have for now but we'll be here to mark more specs down when Touch becomes available later on this year.

AT&T to Carry BlackBerry Bold First

Following the recent Blackberry Bold announcement, AT&T said they are going to be the first US carrier to deliver this new slim beauty. RIM announced that the Bold will be available later this year from various carriers and this appear to be true as T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon will sell the device too. But AT&T are to lead the way. They are bragging about their 3G support which is supposed to be wider than others. I'd assume that's what RIM wants also for their customers. To take advantage to the fullest of 3G wherever they might be.

After Verizon, it is now Sprint's turn to announce the availability of the BlackBerry Curve 8330 on their network. This smartphone means business with its email-centric features supporting up to 10 POP3/IMAP email accounts and support for Sprint's 3G EV-DO network. The phone sports a QWERTY keypad and trackball navigation with a generous 240x320-pixel display. Along with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, the phone also features a 2-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording capabilities and a 1GB card is included to provide storage.

The BlackBerry Curve 8330 will cost you $179.99 after a rebate with a two-year agreement or $599.99 without a contract.

BlackBerry Curve 8300

The BlackBerry Curve 8330 Smartphone from RIM is now available to Verizon customers. The silver smartphone comes with a slew of options including BlackBerry internet service - with support for up to 10 POP3 and IMAP personal/corporate email accounts. For small businesses, you get BlackBerry Professional Software allowing advanced security and IT administration with Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Novell Groupwise environments.

The BlackBerry 8330 measures 4.2" x 2.4" x 0.6" and weighs only 4 oz. Obviously, it features a QWERTY keyboard and RIM's trackball navigation system. Other goodies include speaker-independent voice recognition for voice dialing, dedicated Send, End and Mute keys and a low distortion speakerphone.

The Curve features Bluetooth 2.0 with support for A2DP and AVRCP profiels. There's also a 2 megapixel camera with 5x zoom and support for microSD memory cards.

Pricd at US $169.99 (after $50 mail-in rebate) and new 2-year agreement, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 is availble online and in stores.

Much more has been revealed about the only ever slider from BlackBerry for now, the Kickstart. BGR has gone ahead and let out some more information on the Kickstart. For starters, it confirms the camera to be 2 megapixels and that the keypad is SureType of the "next gen" variety. The flipper will work on quad-band 850/900/1800/1900Mhz GSM networks and run on BlackBerry OS 4.6. While the external screen displays at 160x128 pixels, the internal display is apparently of 240x320 pixel resolution. The external display is said to be monochrome with a soft glow around the bezel when active. Plus, there's WiFi and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

From the picture, you can clearly see where RIM got its inspiration for the Kickstart, gunning at a new segment of people, which it had previously ignored. What remains to be seen now is how well this new design is received when it is expected to be available on T-Mobile starting in September.

This definitely is quite a departure from its usual all-business form factor for RIM. Our friends over at Boy Genius Report were able to snag some pictures of what is claimed to be the first ever clamshell phone from Research In Motion. Although the design is fairly reminiscent of the RAZR, the Kickstart carries the same SureType keypad as the Blackberry Pearl, trackball navigation, an unspecified camera, and houses both an internal and an external LCD screen. There are no hard facts about this mystery product yet, but according to BGR, this one may hit the streets in the third quarter of 2008. As always, we will keep you posted when that happens.

Is RIM Working on an iPhone Killer?

|
BlackBerry_AK.pngI really hate the term "iPhone Killer." It's so overused, and just about the term give for every other touchphone on the market similar to the specs of the iPhone. But as much as I dislike it, phone manufacturers know that to be able to eclipse the popularity of the Jesus phone and to be able to bring their brand and models to the forefront of the smartphone market, they truly need to come up with an "iPhone Killer." As such, Research in Motion is rumored to be developing its own revolutionary handset to compete with the upcoming iPhone 2nd gen with 3G connection. IntoMobile speculates that the branded BlackBerry AK (Apple Killer) might just be the BlackBerry 9100. However, we could only know for sure once these information substantiate. If RIM indeed comes up with an iPhone Killer, will you be genuinely interested in it?
