Sony Ericsson W350 Twiggy Walkman Phone

|

A few months ago we saw the Sony Ericsson Twiggy Walkman phone get leaked and today we see it appear in pictures again. There's no news about Twiggy's future. People say the phone was cancelled so we definitely have to wait and see what the company has in mind regarding this Walkman phone. The phone comes with an unnecessary flip cover which lets you control the music. Well at least it lets you play and pause it when you like as there aren't any other touch friendly buttons on it. The phone also sports a 3.2 camera worthy of your attention but other than that we have no specific info about the other features of the W350. So if the Twiggy is really cancelled, what other Walkman phones is Sony Ericsson working on?

Sony Ericsson S312 entry-level phone

|

If music ain't your thing, Sony Ericsson has just announced another cell phone, the S312, another low-ender in its S class of handsets. Buyers will find Bluetooth, FM radio, a 2-inch TFT display, a speakerphone, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/900/1800 connectivity. The music player included is also capable of TrackID akin to the W205 and there's a M2 slot for further expansion. A 2-megapixel camera with a dedicated camera key is also thrown in along with the ability to snap pictures "horizontally," which as you know is possible on any cameraphone out there.

The Sony Ericsson S312 will make its way to the market in the second quarter of 2009 for a price that is yet to be announced.

    AT&T launches Sony Ericsson W760a Phone - $130

    |

It seems like AT&T is on a roll this week, so on top of the recently launched Pantech Matrix and Samsung Propel there is a new SonyEricsson cellphone on their catalog, more specifically the W760a. According to the AT&T website, the device costs $120 after discounts which can't be considered a bad price.

Interesting features on the W760a? How about integrated GPS with WayFinder Navigator? Or what do you think of the mobile email support with services such as AOL, Yahoo, AIM, Windows Live? Not good enough? Maybe the 3.2-megapixel camera is the extra you really need?

There are still more goodies on the Walkman phone, like ShakeControl that lets you shake the cellphone to skip tracks, and a nice screen that measures 2.2-inches

The cool new accelerometer gives you the ability to shake or tilt the phone to fast forward to the next song or to simulate motion while playing video games.

Sony Ericsson W305 Yao cell phone in March 2009

    |

Are they running out of new designs in the Sony Ericsson's lab or are they just porting over cell phones with a few changes from different segments? After the Rika, we have news about yet another cellphone that's going for the Walkman branding, the F305 gaming phone, which will become the W305 when it is released next year in March. Going by the code name of "Yao" (F305 was called Ying), the W305 will sport pretty much the same features as the F305 before it was Walkmanized, dropping the gaming keys on top for the Walkman button, a 2-megapixel camera, a 176x220 display, and most probably EDGE support, making this another low-ender in the Walkman category. More details as we find them!

Sony Ericsson Rika shows up in red

    |

We could have done with some more details on this upcoming Walkmanized G705, but all we can bring to you as of now is another clandestine shot of the Rika, this time clad in sultry red. We are still speculating on what it holds other than dedicated music controls and 3G (evident by the front-facing camera) but with an official announcement already being prepped, we could expect to know more in a few days. If the rumored official announcement does come through this month, we might even see this mysterious slider hit the shelves just in time for Christmas!

CiPhone i88i - Yet Another iPhone Clone?

    |

We have all seen our fair share of iPod clones, right? Well, the latest trend on the tech industry is to create copycats of the Apple phone, also known as iPhone. As expected this look-alike comes from Asia, more specifically China, and is available online in black or white colors, for approximately $250.

The CiPhone i88i comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen - same as the iPhone - but the resolution is smaller at 240x320 pixels. The camera that serves to take photos and record videos is also worse than the Apple phone, with a 1.3-megapixel sensor. The same can be said about the internal memory that only features 2GB, but on the other hand, if you only look at the design and forget about the specifications, this is a true clone.

Multimedia tasks are done by the MP3 + MP4 player and a TV-Out function, while the navigation is achieved by GPRS & WAP. Other features include:

    - bluetooth
    - FM radio
    - 2 games
    - JAVA 2.0

    Sony Ericsson Rika Gets Leaked

    |

There's not much info on the Sony Ericsson Rika yet. People say it's a Walkman model of the Sony Ericsson G705. Besides the supposed music capabilities, the Rika seems to have a front camera which must mean it has 3G support.

Sony Ericsson hasn't announced it yet, so that's all we have so far: a picture and a bunch of maybes.

Sony Ericsson W707 (alicia) in the Wild

What makes Alicia W707 attractive is the fact that it comes with two displays on the external case. Sony Ericsson W707 equips two displays (round display and a square display). Not only this, it sports a glossy finish that is capable of redefining anyone's style statement.

Featuring all the advance music functions, the new Sony Ericsson W707 handset offers superb web and email capabilities. It features HSDPA connectivity and video recording without flashes and auto focus.

Sony Ericsson G705 Kumiko to be Announced September 8th

    |

Tomorrow, September 8th, is the day when Sony Ericsson will announce the G705 aka Kumiko. The G705 which we've already seen will have a 3.2 megapixel with LED flash, HSUPA, 3G video calls, and M2 memory card support.

    Sony W350a Walkman for AT&T

    |

Since not everybody would be vying for a piece of Apple cake from AT&T, the carrier has added one more mobile phone to its ever-growing portfolio of Walkman phones. This time, it's the Sony Ericsson W350a, the Americanized version of the January-announced W350. Our jaded eyes fail to see anything special with this one as we could only find a 1.3-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, and an M2 slot behind it's controls-laden flap. AT&T seems to think so too and is willing to offer the phone for free with service. Available in enticing hues of ice blue, electric black, and white.

    Sony Ericsson T700

    |

Sony Ericsson has a new phone for us, the T700 which seems to be the perfect successor of the T610. Let's take a look at some features of the T700:

    • 3.2 megapixel camera
    • High quality stereo speakers
    • Color matching headset
    • Bluetooth connectivity
    • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSDPA 2100
    • Memory Stick Micro card slot
    • 2 inch TFT color display at 240 x 320 resolution.
Nothing special here. No Walkman-like music and no Cybershot-like camera in this T700. And as usual, there's no information on prices and availability yet.

    Sony Ericsson Launches the W302

    |

I know what you are asking yourself. Am I ever going to stop with these Sony Ericsson announcements? Well I will stop the minute Sony Ericsson stops launching cell phones. It's the third Walkman phone launched today and it carries the name W302. This model will be launched also in Q4 of 2008 in those interesting imaginative colors, Midnight Black and Sparkling White.

And here we have some features for this mid ranged Walkman phone:

    • Walkman player

    • Integrated FM Radio

    • Premium style and design

    • 2 megapixel camera

    • Bluetooth Stereo connectivity

    • 2 inch LCD display

    Sony Ericsson Launches the W595

    |

Today seems to be another Sony Ericsson day. We've had a few a while ago with lots of cell phone launches. This Tuesday seems to be a Walkman cell phone day from Sony Ericsson. We've seen earlier the W902 and now we have another just launched model, the W595.

Well let's see it then! Let's see what features will the W595 bring to the table:

    • Memory Stick Micro memory card slot

    • Share jack and stereo speakers

    • Bluetooth connectivity

    • TrackID and SensMe

    • 3.2 megapixel camera

    • 2.2" LCD display

This Walkman too will be launched later in Q4 and will it come in three versions with various network support. We will let you know when it will hit the market. Oh and of course, there's no price on it yet.

    Sony Ericsson Launches the W902

    |

Sony Ericsson seems eager to get back on track after having a disastrous second quarter this year. And what better way of getting more money than by selling more cell phones. Here we have the W902 Walkman phone. Don't be fooled by the looks, this is a phone for the public. The public that loves music of course. It's not the smartphone you might be looking for.

Let's go through some of the features:

    • Outstanding music sound

    • Retro music navigation keys

    • Crystal clear video playback

    • 5 megapixel camera

    • Scratch-resistant 2.2" QVGA screen and lens

    • Memory Stick Micro memory card slot

    • UMTS/HSDPA 2100

    • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900

This Walkman model will come out in Q4, so you have to wait for a price announcement. If you want this Sony Ericsson, you can think about what color you'd like it to be. You have to choose from Volcanic Black, Wine Red and Earth Green. I like hate it when they invent those fancy color names.

    Sony Ericsson Feng Leaked Photos

    |

This is the Sony Ericsson Feng in the leaked picture above. I don't know if there's a Shui from Sony Ericsson, but if I was Sony Ericsson I'd create one. There can't be a Feng without a Shui, can it?
This phone will be announced on July 22nd and we also like to call it the W302.

The Feng will be a walkman version of the S302 phone. You must have lost interest by now. The S302 was an entry to mid range phone. Not the spectacular iPhone competitor you wished for. So the W302 will be similar to the S302. No high hopes for this one either. Besides the music capabilities, the Feng will have a 176x220 display and a 2 megapixel camera to go with that. Powered by the A2 software platform, this simple phone will be quite useful if you're looking for a fast, fun cell phone.

    Sony Patti Spotted

    |

The new Sony Ericsson Patti cell phone has been spotted in the wild. According to the rumor mill, it could be a touch-screen phone, but hey, you never know. All the good things including Walkman features, slim candybar form factor, an included 8GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) for your storage needs, etc.

The Patti is also expected to have a 5 megapixel camera, auto-focus with flash. It also supports HSDPA hi-speed networks. The phone's just a few weeks away from availability.

Sony Ericsson W595 Linda Gets Spotted

    |

Remember how Sony Ericsson released a whole bunch of phones just a few weeks ago? Besides the C905, most of them were entry level to mid range phones with various extra features. It appears that Sony Ericsson is preparing for another released. The Sony Ericsson W595 Lind has just been seen around. By seen we mean leaked of course.

The W595 seems to be the successor of the W580. It is a slider phone with Walkman capabilities. It will have FM radio support, a Walkman 3 player and the A2 software platform. As a bonus you get the pre installed Google Maps and the 3D accelerometer.

The Linda will be launched somewhere in July, which means that possibly in just a few days you will get some more detailed feature and prices.

    Sony HBH-DS205 Headphone

    |

Check out this cool new headphone from Sony. It's probably built specifically for Sony Ericsson walkman phones for an even greater music experience, but I think it can be used with any device that is compatible with it. You can clip the pendant to your shirt and don whatever headphones suit you best. It has a 3.5 mm input jack that allows you to connect it to you favorite portable music device.

As mentioned, the headphone is built for Sony Ericsson phones. I guess that is why the headphone has a feature that automatically mutes your music when a call comes in, and resumes when you end the call - and you don't even have to touch your phone.

clip the pendant to your shirt and don whatever headphones suit you best. A 3.5 mm input jack allows you to swap them to listen to your music your way.Play the music in your phone through the high-quality stereo headphones of the DS205 without any physical connection between the phone and your ears.

    Sony Ericsson R300

More phones from Sony Ericsson. This time, it's the Sony Ericsson R300 mobile phone that cleared the FCC hurdle. This is also a cameraphone, and features TrackID - a free music recognition service. TrackID allows you to search for song titles, artists and album names. There's also a web browser on the phone.

Connecting the Sony Ericsson R300 to your computer via USB allows you to view it as a mass storage device, allowing for convenient bulk transfer of files. If you prefer the wireless way of doing things, the R300 also sports Bluetooth. The phone appears to be an entry-level series. There's not much else information available about the phone.

Sony Ericsson's beibei in the wild

    |

    Sony Ericsson's Beibei

One more Sony Ericsson leak for the day, the daftly codenamed "beibei." It looks like the guys over at Yesky were able to get their hands on an actual device, based on the quality of the pictures available. There isn't much detail available on the device, unlike the P5 and G502 we reported on earlier but what is known is that beibei belongs to the Walkman series from SE and will run on Symbian OS 9.3 with the new UIQ 3.3 user interface (with Demand Paging support). The device has a display smaller than the usual touchscreen phones and curiously more buttons than is the norm for a touchscreen smartphone. Also, from one of the pictures, we can see that the phone does have WiFi connectivity. That's about it as far as the details go about this mysterious device.

Of course, nothing can be confirmed until the official announcement by Sony Ericsson in the future, and we will be sure to let you know when they do. Meanwhile, take a look at some more pictures of "beibei" after the break.

    Sony Ericsson W580i in Green

    |

    W580i%20green.jpg

Realizing it couldn't stop at being pink, the Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman phone is now available in a new and fresher color -- jungle green. It looks a bit tacky in my eyes -- like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in the guise of a cellular phone. But then again, tastes vary, and I'm sure many would find this color scheme preferable. If you're forgotten, the original Sony Ericsson W580i is a simple white music phone with 2-megapixel camera.

Japan's New Literary Genre: Cell Phone Novels

    |

cellphone_novel.jpgWell, not yet. But with the prevalence of cell phone novels in Japan these days, it seems like it already is. It all started when web site Maho no i-rando thought of bring a new spin to Japanese teens writing novels in their blogs. Cell phone novels consist of aggregated short blurbs uploaded via cell phone to web sites where people can get them for free. Last year, it was such a hit that the number 5 bestseller of 2007 in Japan was a hardbound copy of a cell phone novel by 21-year-old Rin (the girl on the pic). The success of cell phone novels could be attributed to the manga genre (comic book) since their plots are of the same nature. Tapping away in one's cell phone though means each update for the novel would be short and primarily consisting of dialogues. Cell phone novels are usually written in first person POV to give readers the illusion of reading a diary.

Can Palm Make a Comeback in 2008?

    |

    palm_logo.jpg

Can Palm make a comeback in 2008?, once a almighty company that laughed at its rivals attempts to compete with them, it is now sadly facing the biggest struggle for surival of its live. 2007 has been a very horrible year for Palm and everyone is at a lost for a reason why. Everybody knows Palm, their phones are world class, whole communities (like Apple and Blackberry have) are dedicated discussing everything Palm. God can only hope that it doesn't go the way of Sony's walkmans. But really when you think about it a bit, Palm has still got so much going for it, they cuts cost recently (But Sadly Job cuts), they got a new CEO (Former Apple executive, you can't get better than that), the brands still strong, there products are great and hopefully they will have a million geeks behind them in 2008. I think all they need now is Google Andriod and their set.

Sony Walkman NW-A919 Touch Screen Player

    |
    A919.jpg
Pretty cool picture, wouldn't you agree? This is one of the latest Walkman from Sony, NW- A919. But if you don't live in Japan, then there's no point in using this device. It only has a 1Seg tuner, not DMB, DVB-H, or Flo. The Sony player holds up to 16GB of flash memory and a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 pixel display.

The device measures approximately 86.8 × 48 × 12.3-mm and still supports ATRAC in addition to non-DRMed WMA and AAC, MP3, and linear PCM audio playback with SonicStage doing the sync work back to your PC.

Rounding things out are an FM tuner, direct encoding from your CD/MD player, clear audio noise canceling headphones, and a battery capable of juicing up to 6 hours of television or 36 hours of audio. The premium NW-A919/BI (pictured) will sell in November for ¥47,800 while a 4GB NW-A916 should pop for about ¥30,000 ($9).

Sony PSP Cell Phone in the Works?

    |

230px-Psp1.pngSony Ericsson is on the move towards creating a mobile phone created and developed specifically for games. As I read this story, I can't help but think of the Nokia N-Gage. Of course, I don't know the story about that but when mobile phone and games come together in a sentence, the n-Gage almost always comes to mind. Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint said on his statement that this path could be "an area of possible future activity."

These reports have been strengthened when Mobile Entertainment reported that Sony Ericsson would launch a new games device in February. Insider talk says the phone will not boast the PlayStation brand, but Flint's comments suggest the matter over branding is still to be decided.

The company, 50 per cent owned by Sony itself, already produces Bravia-branded handsets for Japan, taking the name from its parent firm's line of high-end TVs, and already uses the Walkman and Cybershot logo on other phones, a move that has reportedly help the company double margins in the last three years.

The Bluetooth device also supports streaming audio thanks to the A2DP profile. The best part about the MOTOROKR T3 is that it also comes with an integrated FM transmitter - so the audio that it receives over Bluetooth can be conveniently broadcast to your car's radio. I think this will be the USP of this device -- I am pretty sure I will be getting one of these. I have a Nokia N73 (the music edition, with 2GB memory) - and with the MOTOROKR T3, I won't have to carry a whole lot of other devices to listen to my music collection on the car stereo.

No word on the pricing, but the device has cleared the FCC hurdle, which means it should be on its way to the market soon.

Sony NWZ-A810 & NWZ-S610/S510 Series WALKMAN Digital Media Players

    |

1187079490920.jpgSony today announced the availability of two new Series of digital media players in Europe – the WALKMAN A Series and S Series. The NWZ-A810 & NWZ-S610/S510 Series will support an open platform and include support for Windows Media technology, providing greater choice for downloading and managing music, video and photo collections.

The players support security-enhanced Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA), as well as non-secure AAC and MP3 music formats, plus JPEG files for photos, in addition to the AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile and MPEG-4 video codecs. With these new WALKMAN players, Sony has widened its digital music environment to support Windows Media technology. The company will be moving towards a more open system that gives customers flexibility in their music software approach. As a result, Sony will be phasing out the CONNECTTM Music Service based on Sony’s ATRAC audio format in Europe. Specific timing will vary by region depending on market demand, but will not be before March 2008.

Sony Improves Optical Drives to 20X

    |
    SonyDVD.jpg
Sony just announced its modifications on its line of multi-format optical drives. From its original speed, it now reads media to speeds as fast as 20X. As for the style and figure of these devices, it's still the same as before. In fact they look identical to the original set. The specs also doesn't show any changes. So it is safe to say, that Sony only tweaked the devices' speed. The slimline DRX-S70U external DVD burner is still as slim as it is while the standard external is still a giant Wii-sized monster.

These drives are Sony’s latest crop of multi-format DVD burners that support 20X DVD±R recording speeds, delivering a full 4.7 GB disc of video, data, music or images on standard 16X DVD+R media in about five minutes. In addition, the drives can record on 8.5GB DVD+R Double/Dual layer and 4.7GB DVD+RW discs at 12X speed.

The internal DRU-840A drive is now available for about $70; the external DRX-840U burner is expected to ship next month for around $110; and the slim DRX-S70U drive will also be available next month for about $130.

Airwaves Auction Approved by the FCC

    |

    FCC

Here's some good news for cell phone and wireless device users: the FCC approved rules intended to give people a greater choice, thanks to the completion of an airwaves auction next year. The auction will have to take place within January 28, 2008. The so-called open access provision allows for customers to use whatever phone and software they want on as much as one-third of the spectrum to be auctioned.

Another provision that mandated a licensee to sell access to its network on a wholesale basis did not make it, pushing Google out of the bidding (not that the company has ruled it out completely, of course). The bidding proceeds will be in the range of US $10-15 billion, with a total of 62 MHz being auctioned off. 22 MHz will be open access.

Television broadcasters will occupy the spectrum until Feb 2009.

    Sony%20Walkman%20NW-A808-player.jpg
Sony has announced the release of their newest portable device called Walkman NW-A808, while the walkman name makes it look like a audio player only, that is not the case because the device can do both: be a portable media player for audio and video, and a mobile phone for calls and text messages.

It features a LCD display that measures 2-inches, and overall it is very thick measuring 8.3mm only. The directional keys and others, like power on/off, home, back, are all located on the front side of the device; while on the left side and bottom there is space for the headphone jack and power adapter.

The Sony Walkman NW-A808 will have a price tag of 32,800(JPY) which is close to $270 and there will be two distinct colors available: white or pink. The release date is set for July 10th in Japan.

    |

Although it has not yet been confirmed by Sony themselves, it looks as though we may very soon have a new Walkman slider phone in our midst. The phone appears to be branded under the name Sony W999i.

If this is in fact a real phone that Sony is producing, it is likely to include such features as HSDPA connectivity, 2.4" 262K color QVGA screen, a 2-megapixel camera with autofocus, and should be about 12.5mm thick.

These images surfaced on a Swedish website, after rumors and grainy images hit a couple forums last week.
