Cellphone to Analyze Blood and Detect Diseases

I’m not sure if that’s what you want your daily cell phone to be able to do. You know, analyze blood and tell you what diseases it might carry. We have hospitals for that. The phone in the picture is a hacked phone for medical purposes. Dr. Aydogan Ozcan from UCLA has transformed a Sony Ericsson phone into a blood testing unit which can tell you if your patient’s blood carries HIV, malaria and several other illnesses. The device will use the camera sensor to analyze the blood cells. The light source will show you the properties of certain blood cells when used with the specific software this doctor has designed. It means we’ve just gotten a step closer to that Star Trek medical scanner didn’t we?
