LG Chocolate 3 from Verizon Wireless on July 14th

|

There, I said it all, the next Chocolate from LG, the third version is coming to Verizon Wireless on July 14th. What more do you need? Go start a line in front of a store or something! Oh, I get it, you don't exactly like Chocolate? Not the LG kind? Let's see what LG Chocolate 3 is all about.

The first striking difference is the clamshell design. The previous models were sliders. I personally hate sliders as I end up playing with them all day long, which is quite annoying. The Chocolate 3, or the VS8560 as close friends like to call it, will be priced at $129 after $50 rebate as long as you opt in for a 2 year agreement. If you want just a 1 year agreement, the price goes up to $199 after rebate while a contract free phone costs $299.

Here's what you get for that price:

  • 1GB of internal memory,

  • microSDHC support up to 8GB,

  • 1.76" 176x220 pixel external display with navigation wheel,

  • 2.2" internal QVGA display,

  • 3.5mm headset jack,

  • 2MP camera,

  • tereo speakers,

  • Bluetooth 2.1,

  • integrated FM transmitter.

It's a must have it you like collecting those Chocolates. Otherwise it's just another LG phone!

thanks Trent.

Nokia 6205, Dark Knight Edition Launched by Verizon Wireless

The 6205 is a mid-range but it still has to offer quite a lot:

  • 58 MB internal memory expandable up to 4 GB via microSD memory card,

  • Get It Now® for downloading games, ringtones, wallpapers,

  • VZ NavigatorSM,

  • Mobile Web,

  • Voice dialing and voice commands,

  • Built-in speakerphone,

  • Bluetooth-enabled for Wireless Headset Support,

  • Verizon Wireless' V CAST Music service,

  • two-inch display that supports up to 262,000 colors.

The 6205, not the brightest phone in its class, will live up to your expectation. It comes just at $69.99 after $50 online instant rebate but with a two year contract extension.

Moto W755 on Verizon Wireless

|

Verizon Wireless has added one more cellphone to their big catalog, it comes from Motorola and is known as W755. It isn't one of those top notch cellphones that you'd expect, it is more of a "music cellphone", much like Nokia Xpress Music.

Since playing audio is its primary function, the Moto W755 has touch-sensitive controls placed its face, and supports the following formats: AAC, MP3, MIDI, and WMA V9. Thanks to the connectivity features of Windows Media Player 11, you can sync the cellphone with your PC.

The storage solution used in this case are microSD cards with a maximum capacity of 4GB. The Motorola W755 is priced at $70.

MAXXve.JPG

If you are in the market for a good-looking phone with a great price tag, RAZR MAXX Ve might suit your needs. The clamshell is the second CDMA phone in the RAZR line from Motorola and follows the RAZR V3m music phone closely in its appearance and features with several improvements.

The RAZR MAXX Ve weighs a mere 4 ounces and measures about 0.6 inches thick with a stylish black metal exterior. Touch-sensitive keys adorn the front of the phone with a secondary 1.7-inch 65k-color screen. A 2-megapixel camera takes care of your imaging needs with support for up to 2GB microSD storage. There is also EV-DO to make your downloads much more faster and Bluetooth 1.2 with stereo headset profile.

All this can be yours at $19.99 on a two-year agreement with Verizon, but you will need to 1-800-2-JOIN-IN and ask for a stock refresh for the phone, as the MAXX Ve is not available on all markets.

Verizon Introduces Samsung U940 Glyde

|

glyde_samsung.jpg
We were waiting for this baby from Samsung to be sold already by Verizon for a couple of months now. The U940 Glyde can be a decent competitor to Apple's iPhone or the newly launched HTC Touch Diamond. And it's quite affordable (with a two-years plan) at $249 after $50 rebate.

Let's look at some of the features you might inquire about:

  • Touch Screen
  • Full QWERTY Keyboard
  • Full HTML Browser
  • V CAST Music and Video*
  • Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
  • 2.0 Megapixel Digital Camera
  • microSD™ Memory Card Slot (Up to 8 GB)
  • networks: CDMA/EV-DO where available

What do you think? Is this Samsung U940 Glyde going to keep up with the others?

Google to Sue Verizon

|

Google_Gphone_Verizon.jpg
Now that Google has celebrated Yahoo's blown deal with Microsoft, they can go after Verizon Wireless.

This carrier's bid on the 700Mhz bandwidth has been the winning bid and Verizon will make full use of it. What they aren't respecting, according to Google, is the open access rule. Open access means that all applications and all devices, whether or not provided by the owner of the bandwidth, have to be able to function freely in any newly acquired bandwidth.

Verizon hasn't disclosed yet what they are preparing for that spectrum but if their policy is to limit access to if the hardware/software isn't purchased from them isn't exactly fair. I don't know what Google is pursuing this but clearly whatever Verizon has in mind, Google wants to be in it somehow. Is it the GPhone?

AT&T Launches Cell Phone TV

|

Greys_Anatomy_270x654.jpg
We've heard quite a lot about AT&T's marketing ideas these last couple of days. First we had the $40 iPhone plans for deaf people, then we heard AT&T are going to sell the new 3G iPhone for $199 for a two year subscription plan and today we hear that AT&T are launching cell phone TV Plans.

First of all I am the kind of guy that mostly uses his cell phone for, and you will laugh at this, calling people. I know, that's so unusual right? I wouldn't want to take pictures or watch TV on a 3 inch screen.

But there are lots of people who would do those things to a cell phone and this $15/month plan will suit them. AT&T will match Verizon Wireless' V Cast Mobile TV and the service will be delivered via the same company Qualcomm Inc. The plan includes 10 channels. 8 are shared with Verizon: CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News 2Go and Nickelodeon and 2 are exclusive: PIX, which screens movies from Sony Pictures, and CNN Mobile Live.

But there's a catch. You will only have to phones on which this service will be available starting Sunday. These are the LG Vu, a touch screen phone for $299.99, and the Samsung Access, a more traditional phone for $199.99. Prices apply after a $100 rebate and only for 2-year plans. The service will be available in more than 58 locations across the USA.

If you are always watching TV and this AT&T plan sounds like a good idea, maybe you should also know that more and more TV stations are considering mobile broadcasting for free. This is a rumor thing just yet and these kind of services will be available in 2009.

Battle Off The Airwaves - Googles Bid for Spectrum Accepted

|
sprectrum.gif

FCC has just accepted Googles Bid for Spectrum AirWave.

In January a massive battle is expected to take place between some of the biggest media and phone companies in the world, it's all over something called a spectrum, I don't really know what this thing is, but its believed these companies are prepared to pay up to 15 billion dollars for it, so it must be pretty important. The bidding is going to be fierce and most probably one company alone won't have a chance to win, so many of the 266 bidders are teaming up behind closed doors to give themselves a advantage from competitors, some of the companies said to be involved are Google, Time Warner Cable, AT&T, Verizon, AT&T, Leap Wireless International, Sprint Nextel, Comcast, Echostar Communications, DirecTV Group, Verizon Communications, Vodafone Group, Rural Cellular and Deutsche Telekom. The auction is to take place on Jan. 24.

verizon%20logo.gifVerizon decides to offer full support to Google's (GOOG) new software platform for cell phones and other mobile devices.Android. The company is intending to shift their network to GSM-based radio technology (LTE) and finally landing down on Android.

'In an open-access model, though, Verizon Wireless won't offer the same level of customer service as it does for the roughly 50 phone models featured in its handset lineup. Though the company will insist on testing all phones developed to run on its network in the open-access program, Verizon plans only to ensure the wireless connection is working for customers who buy those devices.'
