|

Sprint will launch a new Samsung phone, the Exclaim M550, which is the successor of the Rant. You can expect both an QWERTY keyboard and a keypad ready to meet your texting needs. And both keypads are sliding out which is quite a neat trick. Other features include:

  • A 2.6 QVGA display

  • EV-DO Rev. 0 connectivity

  • Social networking applications

  • GPS

  • 2MP camera

  • Memory expansion slot, up to 32GB

The phone should be available starting with June 7 for an undetermined price. We'll be back with those price tags as soon as Sprint announces them.

FCC Approves Sprint's and Clearwire's Romance

|

FCC was pretty busy these days! Besides approving Verizon's purchase of Alltel, the FCC has analyzed Sprint's and Clearwire's partnership and it has given its Ok to their romance too.

We're looking forward to see how their WiMAX network offspring will work out in the future. The two companies plan to offer its WiMAX services to 140 million people in about 30 months or so. We'll be looking forward to report more on this beautiful new WiMAX love story.

Sprint XOHM Network Reported to Be Active in Various Cities

|

Sprint's WiMAX network seems to be ready for action. Although not officially unveiled yet, XOHM is reported to be active in various cities besides Baltimore for testing. That means Sprint subscribers and not only can pick it up if equipped correctly. Here are the cities in which the XOHM is said to be active: Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. or Northern Virginia. It was time for Sprint to launch the network already. They have been delaying for too long now.

Sprint Reveals LG Lotus

|

Sprint has recently lifted the curtains on LG's latest handset the, very sleek, LX600 Lotus. This phone will feature a very unique design, as you can see above, in the sense that it will feature a full QWERTY keypad in a flip style phone.

The LX600 will feature Bluetooth 2.0 along with a 2.0MP camera and will be avaiable on Sprint in October for $149.99, with the QWERTY keyboard as the obvious selling point.

This is probably one of the more femenine phones due to it's compact size and, hopefully optional, purple finish.

Sprint's BlackBerry Curve to get GPS and WiFi

|

Wow, that's like so cool! It is said that Sprint's Blackberry Curve will get GPS and WiFi all into one. It's kind of a special offer which they will simply name the 8350i. Probably RIM will name it and Sprint will sell it. Well I guess at first it was really a mind boggling problem to fit the GPS and the WiFi antenna inside the precious Curve. And now it's all fixed.

I am guessing that's going to happen sometime soon with Sprint and other carriers will follow. After all why buy a Curve with only one of the must have features when you can get them both now?

Sony Ericsson Feng Leaked Photos

|

This is the Sony Ericsson Feng in the leaked picture above. I don't know if there's a Shui from Sony Ericsson, but if I was Sony Ericsson I'd create one. There can't be a Feng without a Shui, can it?
This phone will be announced on July 22nd and we also like to call it the W302.

The Feng will be a walkman version of the S302 phone. You must have lost interest by now. The S302 was an entry to mid range phone. Not the spectacular iPhone competitor you wished for. So the W302 will be similar to the S302. No high hopes for this one either. Besides the music capabilities, the Feng will have a 176x220 display and a 2 megapixel camera to go with that. Powered by the A2 software platform, this simple phone will be quite useful if you're looking for a fast, fun cell phone.

Win Prizes with Your Samsung Instinct

|

From what we know so far, the Samsung Instinct that hit the stores two weeks ago had tremendous success and got sold almost immediately. For Sprint the Instinct is a huge success. There were reported shortages of the instinct in some locations. The Instinct just became the fastest selling EVDO device in Sprint's history. We don't have any numbers to back that up yet but they should emerge at some point.

And now you can even win some prizes with your Samsung Instinct. The first 1000 videos to be accepted and posted to YouTube will get $20 each while one big winner will be drawn, and a lucky video will win $10,000. You should be making a home "Sell Out" video and just upload it to YouTube. The contest ends on August 1st so you better hurry. For more information check out Sprint's official site and Instinct site. And good luck to all contestants!

Sprint is Generous: Samsung Instinct for Just $129

|

Samsung Instinct $129
Remember how a while ago I was comparing the Instinct from Samsung and the iPhone from Apple? Remember how I said that despite the fact the Instinct might be better than the iPhone, the iPhone 2 will kick Instinct's ass? Boy was I wrong! I was expecting a lot more changes from Apple, and apparently I need to wait for a iPhone 3 one more year or so.

Soon after the WWDC we also found out that Samsung via Sprint is going to match the price of the iPhone 2. For a two-year contract you would get the Sprint Instinct for $199.99. How cool was that? Well imagine my surprise to find out Sprint is feeling rather generous and it's going to take $70 more off.

Here's how it works. The Instinct is going to be released on June 20th for the price of $129.99 with a two year contract and after $100 mail in rebate. This price will feet most people. But let's go on. The plans vary as far as pricing goes and unlimited data plans are recommended for taking full advantage of Instinct and its capabilities. Should you choose the Everything plan for individuals you will be starting at $69.99 per month for 450 voice minutes. Should you choose the Talk/Message/Data Share plans for families you are looking at $129.99 per month for 1500 voice minutes shared between two lines. Sprint's Simply Everything Plan which offers unlimited nationwide voice and data services for just $99.99 per month seems the way to go. With this last one you will get lots of things including GPS navigation, email, web surfing, Sprint Music Premier and Sprint TV Premier.

Need I say more? The Instinct will be available in Sprint stores directly or via online or telesales order. And from June 20th to August 28th Best Buy will be Sprint's exclusive Instinct partner.

Sprint Samsung Instinct Priced at $199.99

|

Samsung Instinct Price
Tell me you didn't see this coming. Sprint has prepared entirely new plans for their Samsung Instinct release. That was bound to happen once Apple announced they will sell the 3G iPhone for $199 and $299 with AT&T 2 year plans.

The Samsung Instinct was initially priced at $449.99, which is a more than fair price for what it has to offer. Sprint just sliced off $150 for a 2 year plan and a added a further $100 mail in rebate. And on top of that, Sprint will also be offering the for the full price to all customers who don't want to get burdened with another 2 year plan. Is it cool or what.

I'd assume that if the Instinct had the same continuous and aggressive campaign the iPhone had, they would have a better fighting chance. About two weeks ago, when Spring presented the Instinct saying it was much better than the iPhone, I was arguing that although it seems better than the iPhone, it probably won't match the 3G iPhone. But since the iPhone brought us only 3G and GPS, which is far less than the most of were expecting, I tend to rethink my Instinct vs iPhone comparison.

I'll be curios how these devices will sell but inevitably Apple's name will defeat Samsung. And the Thunder from RIM isn't even out yet!

Along with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, the phone also features a 2-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording capabilities and a 1GB card is included to provide storage.

deutsche-telekom-sprint.jpg
Deutsche Telekom is said to be the third carrier to enter an already difficult combination like Sprint taking over Nextel. This is just a rumor yet picked up from the German paper Die Spiegel. According to it Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile USA are preparing for such a merger. Official talks haven't started yet but we will be covering that too.

Can this be a successful formula for taking out the competition? Not only will the German company have to integrate their own services and promote them to Sprint's customers but they will also have to continue the integration of Nextel's users. That means mixing GSM, AWS, PCS, CDMA and iDEN. I wonder if it's worth it

Sprint Will Integrate OpenWeb On Its Web-Enabled Phones

|

OpenWeb.gif

While some people are ecstatic for the ability to access the MySpace Mobile web page on their Sprint phones, some people eagerly await the integration of OpenWeb more. Sprint announced that they will start rolling OpenWave's OpenWeb on their web-enabled mobile phones over the course of the next few weeks. OpenWeb is a system which acts as a web site transcoder which lets you view ordinary web sites not optimized for mobile browsers on your web-enabled phone. It will be completely integrated on Sprint phones without the need for installation and upgrades.

Sprint Launches the Simply Everything Plan for US$99.99

|

After Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile announced their cut rates a few days ago, analysts speculate that Sprint Nextel would make a bold move and undercut everyone else with a US$60 call plan. I wondered how a business which is arguably in the red could keep afloat with that type of call plan, and apparently, Sprint itself thinks so too. Instead of the speculated $60, Sprint Nextel announced its new Simply Everything plan for $99.99. This call plan works for Sprint's CDMA and IDEN networks. And when Sprint says "Simply Everything," it means everything -- unlimited voice, data, text, e-mail, Web-surfing, Sprint TVSM, Sprint Music, GPS Navigation, Direct Connect, and Group Connect. Not a bad move, I say.

Sprint Nextel to Launch 5 New Handsets in April?

|

SprintNextel_logo_mari.JPGPerhaps Sprint really is undercutting everybody else's call plans in order to promote something. And that something, according to rumors going around, is that Sprint is releasing 5 new handsets this April.

Said handsets are reportedly the following:

LG LX400: A handset with a MSRP of US$279.99.
Sanyo PRO-200: A slim clamshell with a MSRP of $249.99
Sanyo PRO-700: A rugged handset meeting Military Specification 810F for shock resistance, dust, and vibration
BlackBerry Curve 8830 Titanium: Titanium version of the black BlackBerry Curve 8830.
Sanyo Katana LX: A basic low-end handset with VGA camera and Bluetooth replacing the Katana II; would be available in black, pink, and blue.

Additionally, Sprint is also reportedly releasing a new data card. One of the options is said to be the Sierra Wireless 597.

All of the above will allegedly be launched on April 16, 2008. However, these are merely rumors which could be debunked. So watch out for our subsequent reporting about these new handsets which Sprint Nextel will or will not launch.

Sprint Plans to Undercut Everybody Else's Call Plans?

|

SprintNextel_logo_mari.JPGOver the last couple of days, the rivalry among the U.S.'s top mobile networks has been mounting. On the same day, both Verizon Wireless and AT&T have announced their $99.99 phone call monthly plan which entails unlimited calls. T-Mobile, on the other hand, upped the ante and threw in text messaging at the same price. There are reports, however, that Sprint Nextel plans to outdo them all. It hasn't been confirmed by the company, but analysts poke their heads in the situation and declare that the probability of Sprint Nextel offering unlimited calls for only US$60 is high. Huh? Didn't Sprint lay off thousands of employees and close off retail stores? I wonder how they'd keep their business afloat. Nevertheless, if and when it does happen, expect more undercutting by the first three companies mentioned in the face of price rivalry. Good news for consumers, but maybe not so much for the business.

Sprint Nextel: Lays off Thousands and Closes Retail Outlets

|

SprintNextel_logo_mar.JPGSprint Nextel has just announced that the company is undergoing a major change. Reports indicate that Sprint Nextel plans to lay off 4,000 employees as well as shut down 4,000 third party retail outlets and 125 company-owned retail stores. Sprint Nextel has been performing poorly since Sprint has acquired Nextel back in 2005. This recent decision stemmed out from several customer service problems and difficulties of attracting new subscribers. Apparently, the release of Sprint Nextel's new Xohm WiMax services has also been pushed back to a latter date despite earlier assurances that everything will be as planned. Too bad. Hope this won't turn into another Nokia in Germany incident.

|

lg_logo.jpgIn the Blog world you always hear rumors about future phones on the way all the time, but I never new there was actually a phone on the market called "Rumor" LoL, well there is and its called the LG Rumor Phone, but maybe it won't be around for much longer as it is being reported that the carrier Sprint have halted shipments of the phone because of faulty features in the phone like "erasing of the phones firmware". But LG is not giving up on the phone and is reported to be fixing the problems.
