Sony Ericsson has recently announced a new handset entitled the Jalou. Marketed towards the fashion concious, the Jalou features a facet-cut clamshell form factor along with an automatically updating user interface that changes to adapt to zodiac signs and special events year round. Color wise, you have the option to choose from Deep Amethyst, Aquamarine Blue or Onyx Black.

Under the hood you're going to find GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UTMS/HSPA, a 3.2MP camera with video recording, Bluetooth 2.0 and a microSD slot. Additionally, Sony will bundle Walk Mate step counter software that will "help you stay in shape wherever you go".

Sony Ericsson's Jalou is expected to hit store shelves in selected markets in Q4 of this year.

We'd like this picture to be a leaked shot of a certain upcoming touchscreen phone, the Sony Ericsson Jalou, but unfortunately it isn't. The photo shows a modified W995 so we'll have to wait for the real Sony Ericsson Jalou to come out.

The C905a is available for $179.99 after rebates and with a 2-year contract and the W518a is now available for $49.99 after rebates and a 2-year contract. So what will it be boys and girls?

A few months ago we saw the Sony Ericsson Twiggy Walkman phone get leaked and today we see it appear in pictures again. There's no news about Twiggy's future. People say the phone was cancelled so we definitely have to wait and see what the company has in mind regarding this Walkman phone. The phone comes with an unnecessary flip cover which lets you control the music. Well at least it lets you play and pause it when you like as there aren't any other touch friendly buttons on it. The phone also sports a 3.2 camera worthy of your attention but other than that we have no specific info about the other features of the W350. So if the Twiggy is really cancelled, what other Walkman phones is Sony Ericsson working on?

We can definitely see Sony Ericsson pairing its interesting Xperia design with an Android OS. In fact that's a more than good idea. An Android Xperia could be the killer phone we're expecting from Sony Ericsson.

But the Kiki concept isn't bad either. For one thing, this phone is really green so should we expect it to be really eco-friendly too? It's so green it doesn't even have any keypad. So how would one be able to interact with it? Simply press your finger against that glass right? That seems pretty logical but we have no official news from Sony Ericsson regarding this phone.

And what about the screen of the Kiki? Is it projected on the glass surface? It would certainly seem so:

The display seems to be made of glass, and the screen image appears to be projected onto this glass surface. It makes it possible to create a sort of depth in the screen image, and it looks rather exciting. We're very much looking forward to seeing more of this.

Sure, it's not the prettiest phone, hell, it's not even the most fully functional but Sony's recently announced Ericsson T715 slider is new, and that's why we care about it.

What you see above is said phone which features a 2.2-inch QVGA screen which is apparantly viewable in direct sunlight. Furthermore it will feature a 3.2MP camera, 3G, Google Maps, Microsoft Exchange support and Accuweather.

Sony has stated their intentions to ship this device Q3 2009.

Naite candybar phone is reasonably priced 3G device that is a part of the company's new GreenHeart allegiance. The phone has basic e-mail and texting ability and even has support for video phone calls. The Naite, pronounced "nigh-tee," sports a 2 megapixel camera with photo uploading capability, and also comes with many of Sony Ericsson's advanced media player features. Users can surf the web with and take calls on a hands-free Bluetooth headset, too. These GreenHeart products do away with hazardous chemicals in production, reduce paper consumption and use smaller packaging. They also come with 5 star energy efficient chargers.

The Naite includes an Ecomate application, which helps its users make greener choices, as well as a Carbon Footprint calculator to see how much CO2 is being used each day. There will be a big campaign for the Sony Ericsson Naite in Latin America, Asia and Europe in the third quarter, as the company anticipates it will become one of its top sellers. It is expected to go on sale in Q3 of 2009.

Sony Ericsson's W518a has just been approved by the FCC and it's going to arrive soon in the USA from AT&T. We don't have exact dates for you but the phone should be available in the following months. The W518a is a GPS-version of the Sony Ericsson W508 and it will feature a QVGA display, external music-dedicated keys and a 3.2 megapixel camera. We'll be waiting for some prices with those final arrival dates.

T-Mobile has a new Sony Ericsson phone scheduled to be released soon. It's the C905 which has just been approved by the FCC. T-Mobile will sell it as the CS8, which means its the version for T-Mobile's GSM and AWS 3G bands. The phone should arrive later this year so both AT&T and T-Mo subscribers will be able to enjoy that same phone. Question is, who will be the first one to launch it?

If music ain't your thing, Sony Ericsson has just announced another cell phone, the S312, another low-ender in its S class of handsets. There is not much to write home about, but for a entry level cell phone, the S312 does seem pretty loaded. Buyers will find Bluetooth, FM radio, a 2-inch TFT display, a speakerphone, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/900/1800 connectivity. The music player included is also capable of TrackID akin to the W205 and there's a M2 slot for further expansion. A 2-megapixel camera with a dedicated camera key is also thrown in along with the ability to snap pictures "horizontally," which as you know is possible on any cameraphone out there.

The Sony Ericsson S312 will make its way to the market in the second quarter of 2009 for a price that is yet to be announced.

The swivel phone in the picture here is a Sony Ericsson new handset. But is it the Reese? Will we see it at the MWC?

The Reese comes with "a unique swivel design reveals a QWERTY keypad below the large portrait screen which allows you to view several messages of any one kind in high definition. It also comes with one-click access to your favorite networking sites. So now it's never been easier to keep up with your mates."

We don't have all the details about the Reese but we're counting on Sony Ericsson to announce it at the MWC.

When news of the Hikaru came out some days ago, this was actually the code name for the latest powerhouse multimedia phone by Sony Ericsson. Today that codename has been decoded and given the proper model name in the Sony Ericsson W995. This new phone aims to combine cyber-shot technology with the Walkman and become one of the high-end handsets for the company.

A new Cyber-Shot phone is heading our way. It's the C903 from Sony Ericsson which we heard it's going to be unveiled at MWC next month. The C903 or the Frances looks similar to the C905 Cybe-Shot which has an 8 megapixel camera. But the C903 will only sport a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, active lens cover and face detection. You will also get A-GPS, 2.4-inch TFT screen with a 240x320 pixels.

The C903 will be available sometime in Q2 2009 but we don't have an exact date or any pricing details just yet.

Facebook is expanding to all modes of being accessed and it looks like most mobile phone companies are trying to race one another to be the first one. But it looks like there is one who beat them to it and that company is Sony Ericsson with its NAN model. Sony Ericsson Nan is now being branded the "Facebook Phone".

Sony Ericsson Nan is a mid-end web-oriented device, that packs a 3 inch TFT multitouch screen (320 x 480 pixels), a 5.1 megapixels autofocus camera with photo flash and a secondary VGA camera. Android OS is also on the specs list, together with WiFi 802.11 b/g support, aGPS Google Chrome and Picasa for Android.

Spotted early last month, we pretty much knew everything about Kate sans a good picture to show off her curves. Now, thanks to Daily Mobile, we can feast our eyes on this mid-level CyberShot phone. Touted to be the successor of K770, the Sony Ericsson C510 proves itself to be a middling in the CyberShot series with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, LED flash, a dedicated shutter key, 160MB of internal memory, and other photo-centric features that you can find on a Cybershot cell phone. The 2.2-inch QVGA display looks just enough and the accelerometer for auto-screen rotation sure makes the C510 a bit more endearing. Accompanying these are extra features like upload/download of videos to YouTube, face detection, and smile shutter.

The Sony Ericsson C510 is expected to be released in February 2009 at an undisclosed price. Keep reading for more pictures...

We saw the Sony Ericsson C905 leak out a few months ago. The phone was ultimately released and is one of the way better Cyber-shot camera phones out there. Boasting an 8.1 megapixel camera, the C905 is equipped with a 2.4 inch screen that can be used in both portrait and landscape modes thanks to the built in accelerometer. Measuring 104mm x 49mm x 18mm, the phone weighs in at an arguably hefty 136 grams (4.8 oz), and is compatible with GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and UMTS 2100/HSDPA networks.

Packaging

Our review unit, provided by the folks over at PureMobile, came with the following items in the package:

• USB adapter for the memory stick

The Camera

Interestingly, the photos for this review were taken from another 8 megapixel camera (a Canon PowerShot SD1100 one). While images from the Canon are marginally better than the ones from the C905, the image quality on the C905 is an order of magnitude better than just about all the other camera phones out in the market. The face detection feature lets you easily focus on the subject, while photo fix lets you adjust contrast and light balance after you've shot the picture.

Now, I am a large believer that digital photos above 5 megapixels in resolution are just a waste of space, so I lowered the resolution of images on the C905 to 5MP (it's easy to set the resolution from the phone menu when you are operating in camera mode). Even with this modification, the photos were really pretty good. Check out the sample photos to see what I mean.

Sometimes, the camera shutter is off by a second when you shoot the photo - leading to blurry images, which you can avoid by turning on the image stabilizer. For low light conditions, there's a xenon flash. While I did not try it, the camera also supports video blogging, letting you upload videos online in seconds (based on your cell phone network - better if you're on WiFi). You can also geo-tag your photos.

The Phone

When the slider is closed, you can do a few things, including look up the recent call list (called, received and missed calls), from where you can call any of those numbers. You do this the usual way - by pressing the Call Answer key.

The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes with a shortcut button that lets you see new phone events (text messages, call alerts), switch between multiple running applications (yes - there is multitasking support), a list of quick shortcuts for the most commonly used applications, WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity and so on, and finally for web access. I realized that I spent quite a bit of my time with the shortcut key - and it is useful without having to slide out the keypad each time.

That said, when you want to send text messages or access other installed tools and applications, you will have to slide out the keypad.

Applications

One of the more important applications on any phone these days is the web browser. The Sony Ericsson C905 comes with the Access NetFront browser (one of my former favorites). On the earlier Nokia Series 60 phones, this was just about the best browser out there - until Opera came out and became the leading browser on phones. Opera is, as usual, available as a free download for the C905 - and I recommend downloading this if you are serious about browsing a lot on your phone.

The other applications are nothing to write home about: you have your default calendar, clock, notepad and task applications as well as a handy integrated FM radio receiver.

Messaging

For regular text messaging, there's the default SMS application. Now, one of the features I liked on this is that it remembers the last few numbers/contacts that you sent the message to, so if you want to send the message to them again it is very convenient. The C905 supports POP and IMAP email accounts as well, but for some reason I could never get it to work with my Gmail account.

Synchronization

Sony Ericsson provides its PC Suite software for syncing data between your phone and computer. The software is easy to use, but I wouldn't call it dead easy - that's something that can be improved. The Media Manager, on the other hand, is much easier - drag and drop stuff that the average 6 year old can handle.

Conclusion

The Sony Ericsson C905 is a worthwhile investment. It sucks that the phone is not available subsidized here in the US, but you can buy it unlocked (see below for details). The phone has a wonderful scratch-resistant screen, impressive 8 megapixel camera and comes equipped with a 2GB memory stick.
