We've seen yesterday that the Nokia N97 is not exactly a waterproof phone although it can deal pretty good with water. If you want a waterproof phone you should wait for Nokia's first, the 3720 which is coming out this September. The phone is dustproof too which makes it suitable for almost any environment. And if you're wondering the 3720 is shock resistant too so you can go ahead and drop it anywhere and it survive easily. We don't have any specs and pricing details just yet but we're not expecting this 3720 to surprise us with smartphone features.

We heard earlier this week that Vodafone Ireland could sell a different N97 version dubbed as the Mini. The phone should be cheaper than the already launched N97 and you can expect it not to have the same cool features. That means a smaller screen, less memory, slower processor. But we can't guarantee any of that since Nokia isn't telling us anything yet. The Mini will arrive later this year and should match the current prices of T-Mobile's G1. Vodafone hasn't denied the rumor which means there's a chance for Nokia to actually launch the Mini soon. The Irish Times is saying that "O2, Meteor and 3 Ireland all said they intend to sell the N97 but none was able to provide a launch date or expected pricing."
What would you choose between the N97 and the Mini version? How much would you be willing to pay for it?

If you couldn't afford the 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia now has another affordable option in the same XpressMusic category that goes by the number 5530. Key features include a big touchscreen display that is 2.9 inches wide capable of display at 640x360 pixels, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 3.5 mm headset jack, 70MB of internal memory which can be bumped up to 16GB via MicroSD (4GB card included), Bluetooth 2.0, and WiFi. Sadly though, the 5530 XpressMusic tops out with GPRS/EDGE network connectivity. We definitely like the price at just about $278, but the lack of 3G/HSDPA support will certainly be a big turn-off when the phone starts shipping in the third quarter of this year. Well, that was fast! Barely hours after we first heard that there was such a device, Nokia has owned up and announced the brand new nokia E72. The much sleeker look and well-rounded edges aside, the nokia E72 gains a few more improvements over the E71. The monoblock, QWERTY-toting smartphone now houses a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a 3.5 mm headset jack to appease music lovers, and Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2, just like we knew already. What caught our eye the most was the new optical Navikey, which seems like a cool way to blaze through the nokia E72's menus and functions. Look for this one to land late in the third part of 2009 with a $489 price tag. Watch hands-on video after the break to see it in action.

You thought that the E71 was a hot Nokia phone? Well apparently Nokia has a follower en route. The E72 is said follower and it appears it has been already posted and removed from YouTube. The phone will come with features like a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, an optical trackpad, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Symbian S60 FP2 for OS. We have no idea when the E72 is actually coming and how much it will cost but we'll be waiting close by for this one.

Nokia presents a new feature-packed mobile phone as it has officially launched the Nokia 6730 Classic phone. The new phone will start shipping by June via the Vodafone network. This new power-packed phone comes with a wide array of features that include:
- Mobile Internet
- Vodafone Music Client
- Personal and business email access and mobile navigation.
The Nokia 6730 classic also comes equipped with the S60 software, allowing owners to download additional application over the web depending on their choice.
"'Feature packed' describes Nokia 6730 classic really well. With its iconic design - available in sleek black or white - the device is a perfect upgrade for Nokia 6500c or 6300 users or anyone seeking an elegant device, optimized for mobile internet and navigation. What's more, this mobile comes with industry-leading power-saving features and accessories" says Gustavo Eichelmann, Head of Vodafone Global Account Team, Nokia.

Like the 2730 Classic, the Nokia 2720 Fold is also an affordable low-ender that packs the same punch in a flip phone form factor. The handset has 3G support and has a host of other business applications to go with it, including email support, calendar, and filesharing capabilities. Email can supposedly be activated in three simple steps and Nokia Life Tools makes an appearance here too. If you are looking for a great-looking cell phone without the heavy price tag, the Nokia 2720 Fold fits the bill in that aspect too, with its mirror finish and its stylish clamshell design. Look for it drop in the third quarter of 2009 at a throwaway price of 55 Euros ($74).

Nokia has announced three new "3G-ready" devices out of the blue aimed directly at emerging markets. First up is the Nokia 2730 Classic, a candybar that's bound to become as popular as the 6700. And with its 3G capability and a drop-dead price of 80 Euros ($108), this definitely would be a sought-after device when released in the third quarter of 2009. The 2730 Classic also supports Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Mail, two services from Nokia which hope to gain a wider market share in emerging nations. That's all the specs we have on this low-end star for now, but stay tuned as we will get you more.

While the 2730 Classic and the 2720 Fold both look great, the Nokia 7020 would definitely turn to be something that the ladies will end up liking more than the other two. Reminiscent of the Supernova series from Nokia, the 7020 clamshell is a fashion phone that makes use of light, metal, and color to enhance your style points. There's a 2-megapixel camera for some casual pictures along with a bright display (internal) to view them on. The external display has a special "stardust" animation which plays up everytime you get a call and tapping the cover twice lights up the external display to show you time and important information about your cell phone. We presume this is 3G ready too as the other two devices, but we will let you know when we know. Available in the fourth quarter of 2009 for 90 Euros ($121).

If you thought the Nokia E71 (or even the E71x) deserved a business suit every time you had to carry around, pretty soon, the addition of a 5-megapixel lens on this work-oriented smartphone will definitely change your mindset. Dubbed the E71i this time, this Nokia device will get a much-needed bump up to a 5mpx lens from the 3.2 megapixel shooter that the current versions have, in turn bringing in more consumers who had previously stayed away from the E71 for the sole reason of an under-powered camera. We have already seen many 8mpx and 12 mpx cameraphones, but with a 5-megapixel lens, Nokia isn't jumping too high and ends up maintaining the dignity that Eseries devices demand. The Symbian OS will also be updated to Feature Pack 2, just like the E71x released recently, and the handset will be available only in shades of mocha brown. Rumors point to a E71i release as early as September with the Nokia World event scheduled for the same month or as late as October, so stay tuned and we will get more on this as it transpires.

For the people who love to use the MSN Messenger, you can download a version of the said app for use on your Nokia 5800. Though it may be in Chinese version, you can change the language to English.
So now you don't have to worry about leaving your buddies online. You can communicate with them wherever you go thanks to the app designed for the Nokia 5800.

After selling over a million units around the world, Nokia has finally decided to tap the States market after all and if the rumors are to be believed, the release date is right around the corner and Nokia's first ever touchscreen cell phone could hit the shelves by February 26, 2009.
According to The Nokia Blog, the NAM-flavored, 3G-toting Nokia XpressMusic 5800 has already started appearing on some of the major distributors' systems with a suggested price tag of $399, subject to change by the retailer or the carrier that will pick it up. While we all know that Nokia clearly has a winner with more than a million units sold, it remains to be seen if the North American version will do as well as its best-selling counterparts in Europe or be obscured by the upcoming N97.
Say hello to the newest member of Nokia's XpressMusic lineup, the 5630 XpressMusic. Carrying on the legacy of superior audio/video experience provided by Nokia's music line, the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic has everything that we have seen in this segment and a bit more, packed into an ultra-slim candybar form factor. Unlike many of its predecessors, this new entrant takes a turn for the better and works on the Symbian S60 (instead of the usual S40) platform and has a most-welcomed 3.5-mm headphone jack. Here are some of its major features at a glance:
- Dedicated music keys
- microSD support for up to 16GB (4GB card included?)
- Say & Play feature to play a song by just saying its name
- Nokia Music Store compatibility
- N-Gage compatibility
- Full-focus 3.2 megapixel camera with flash with the ability upload videos/images directly to Ovi, Flickr, and Facebook
- 3.5-mm audio jack
- Symbian Series 60 Operating System
The Nokia 5630 XpressMusic is expected to start selling in the second quarter of 2009 at a suggested price of 199 Euros.
We saw the Nokia N79 Mobile Phone way back in August 2008, when it was announced by Nokia. The phone got the FCC approval in October and was finally launched into the world markets.
Exterior
The Nokia N79 comes in a candybar form factor - which Nokia calls as Classic - weighing in at a mere 97 grams. The phone measures 110 x 49 x 15 mm, and I rarely notice it when it's in my pocket - trust me, that's lightweight! The phone features a standard 2.4", QVGA display. There are dedicated camera buttons on the right side - for taking snapshots and zooming. The zoom button doubles up as volume control.
Package
One of the cool things about the N79's package is that it comes with three different Xpress-on covers. The review unit was a canvas white N79 and that came with light sea blue, espresso brown and olive green covers. If you happen to purchase the seal gray one, you will get covers in espresso brown, coral red and white. The phone came with a 4GB memory card, which was quite sufficient to try out my collection of music and podcasts.
Battery
The phone's battery lasts for for an impressive amount of time, given that I did quite a bit of browsing (on T-Mobile's EDGE network, so I can't vouch for 3G) along with a fair amount of talking. It lasted for about 3.5 days before giving up. However, when I connected the phone as a Bluetooth modem to my laptop to access the internet, the battery would, as expected, run out pretty quickly, lasting no more than a day. Charging the battery is also pretty fast - it takes about 1.5 hours for a full charge.
Browsing
After having used Opera for mobile phones, I can't say that I am very impressed with the current state of the default web browser on the Nokia phones - and the N79 doesn't fare any better. I used to be a fan earlier, but no more. Still, it's handy to use and usable at most times (except when it crashes). If you have big fingers like me, the N79 will annoy the heck out of you - its buttons are that small. Add to it the fact that the important Menu button is placed between the left softkey and the call answer (green) buttons, right next to the Internet shortcut button and it only adds to the confusion: which button do I press to access the menu now? However, after a while you get used to it.
Camera
The camera on the Nokia N79, while a 5 megapixel one, isn't the best out there; in fact, photos from this cameraphone are just about average. If you include low-light photos (with flash), the quality is dismal. The phone appears to have been made to make it more of a music/sports phone, judging by the recent announcement of the N79 Active edition, and this explains the compactness as well to some extent, I guess.
I've added a few sample photos from the N79 here.
Availability
Although not yet available through US carriers, you can still purchase it unlocked from PureMobile, the folks who sent over a white N79 for this review.

Nokia has just announced a new cell phone called the Nokia 6700 Cell Phone. This phone, combines smooth surfaces, rich materials and precisely crafted parts with a full metal keymat which completes the premium finish. Improving on all areas of its forerunner, the Nokia 6700 comes with a 5 megapixel camera, assisted GPS navigation with Nokia Maps, and high speed data access meaning sharing images or video is faster and easier than ever. At an estimated retail price of EUR 235, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 6700 addresses the original Nokia 6300 customer need and aspiration level perfectly.
The Nokia 6700 classic, continues the legacy of one of the company's most successful products, the Nokia 6300. "The Nokia 6300 raised the bar in terms of design and premium materials when it arrived in 2006 and topped all sales records for a mid-range mobile phone. The Nokia 6700 moves that bar even higher with a beautiful, slim design and perfectly balanced practicality," said Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President, Nokia. "Our new arrival shares the same 'DNA' as its predecessor and we believe that it will be one of our best selling devices in 2009," continued Petersen.

The handset in the picture here is Nokia's E75. You might think it's the 5730 XpressMusic that Nokia announced a while ago but it isn't. It's a brand new phone which might be announced at the upcoming MWC.
The E75 will feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a keypad, a 2.4 inch screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity. I'd drop the keypad in favor of a larger screen but you can always get the N-97 if you want more screen space. No idea on the pricing and actual arrival date but MWC might bringon all these details.

The E71x is arriving from Nokia US and AT&T soon. And you might be interested in getting this Nokia phone here. The handset will have Feature Pack 2 inside unlike the previous version of the phone. So what about everyone else who already purchased the Nokia E71 with S60 3rd Edition FP1? Will they get the firmware update to FP2?
We have no arrival dates yet and the price is still unknown but AT&T is suspected to pick this one up soon.

The Nokia N79 comes now in an eco-friendly form. This is another green initiative coming from the Finnish company. The Nokia N79 Eco will ship to you without a charger. You will still pay the same price but £4 will go to WWF since there's no charger in the box. The box of the N79 Eco is smaller which means you'll also save on energy and waste.
Where will you get a charger from? Well you do have an old Nokia phone right? Or you can always buy an extra one from any shop. The N79 Eco is currently available in the UK but be sure to check with your local Nokia representative to see if it's available in your country too.

Let's forget the Pre for a second there! We have one more hotter than hot phone due to come out this year. It's the Nokia N97 from our favorite Finnish phone manufacturers. The phone didn't get all the attention it should have and with all the buzz surrounding the Pre, the N97 could be neglected even more by the average consumer.
Is this why the phone seems to be arriving on March 31st? That's what Play.com is saying right now. The unlocked and SIM free N97 will cost around $707. Not to bad for probably the best phone Nokia has created so far. Rumors say that the U.S. version is set to arrive just after the European version so April might be definitely a good month for Nokia.
via Play

Who said that this edition of CES should only bring us hot but complicated future gadgets? Nokia knows we are living during harsher times so the company has brought us a new basic phone, the Nokia 1006. It's a candybar phone which will get you talking to your friends and family, but that's pretty much it will do for you. The display comes with 262,000 colors, there are olyphonic ringtones, wallpapers and screensavers to play with. A 500-contact phone book, a voice recorder, a speakerphone and Bluetooth are also in that 1006 hanset.
The phone will arrive in the first quarter of the year and it will probably be offered for free in many countries with different plans.

Nokia 6208c is inspired from the 6708, the first touchscreen phone with a built-in keypad. And now the handset has been displayed on the Chinese site of Nokia. It will sport Nokia's S40 OS and it will have both the full alphanumeric keypad and a 2.4 inch touschreen display. We don't know if it's a capacitive or resistive screen but the stylus present will suggest it's a resistive one.
Other specs include tri-band EGSM 900/1800/1900, Bluetooth 2.0, support for tethering, a 3.2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and dual-LED flash and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The phone will be available in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, India, the Middle East and North Africa but the price hasn't been revealed yet.
