Alltel Wireless Launches PhotoCopier Service

|

Do you have a gazillion of picture stuck in your cell phone? I know I used to. The CD software which came with my cell phone wouldn't run on my computer, so the result was that I got a stack of pictures which I can't transfer at all unless I did through Bluetooth or infrared. Even then it required a bit of my time. Alltel Wireless's new service called the "PhotoCopter" eliminates the need to worry about image transfer from the cell phone. You simply take pictures and that's it.

The service was launched in cooperation with Ontela, owner of Photobucket.com. Basically, this Alltel feature is as straightforward as it can get. You take a picture and it appears on the My Pictures folder of your computer. However, you can also choose to upload it to Photobucket, Blogger, Snapfish, and Flickr. For now, the service is limited to Alltel customers using Motorola V3m, V3a, V9m and ROKR handsets for US$2.99 per month.

City ID Feature Now on 2 Million Alltel Handsets

|

If you're the kind who can't exist with no called ID feature, you'd like Alltel's City ID feature. But it's not just you. Alltel just boasted announced that said feature is now loaded to 2 Million Alltel handsets across the US. The embedded call feature has the ability to display the city and the state of an unknown number calling your cell phone. Alltel can recognize any number from 20,000 cities in North America.

“Customers frequently do not recognize an incoming phone number and City ID provides additional information to help customers decide if they want to answer the call,” said Scott Bergs, senior vice president of customer solutions for Alltel Wireless. “Customer response to this unique application has been extremely positive due to the control it gives subscribers.”

The City ID feature offers a 15-day free trial, after which it's available for a monthly subscription of $1.99. The latest to feature the City ID is the new LG Glimmer.

Alltel's in a festive mood due to its recent victory in the 50th run of the Daytona 500 by Ryan Newman in the No.12 Alltel Dodge. Hence, ladies and gents, Alltel is offering 500 free minutes bonus to all new subscribers and existing ones who add a new service to their plan. The bonus minutes are given to new subscribers who choose the US$39.99 rate plan or higher and those secondary lines of $9.99. The free minutes are good for 30 days after the activation. But that doesn't end there. Alltel is also offering a free Samsung Hue for everyone who buys one for US$29.99 with a two-year contract.

“Alltel Wireless is celebrating the excitement of Ryan’s incredible Daytona 500 victory with this special offer,” said Frank O’Mara, chief marketing officer of Alltel Wireless. “We are very proud of Ryan Newman, No. 12 Alltel team and our association with Penske Racing. We could not have asked for a better way to start the 2008 season.”

Alltel will continue sponsoring the No.12 Penske Racing team and will even be taking racing season directly to fans with events such as Ryan Newman podcasts, around the country show car tours, online auction, and another run of the “My Circle 500” sweepstakes. Battle Off The Airwaves - Googles Bid for Spectrum Accepted

    |
    sprectrum.gif

FCC has just accepted Googles Bid for Spectrum AirWave.

In January a massive battle is expected to take place between some of the biggest media and phone companies in the world, it's all over something called a spectrum, I don't really know what this thing is, but its believed these companies are prepared to pay up to 15 billion dollars for it, so it must be pretty important. The bidding is going to be fierce and most probably one company alone won't have a chance to win, so many of the 266 bidders are teaming up behind closed doors to give themselves a advantage from competitors, some of the companies said to be involved are Google, Time Warner Cable, AT&T, Verizon, AT&T, Leap Wireless International, Sprint Nextel, Comcast, Echostar Communications, DirecTV Group, Verizon Communications, Vodafone Group, Rural Cellular and Deutsche Telekom. The auction is to take place on Jan. 24.

    Alltel Launches Voice2TXT Service

    |

alltel.jpgWe can only imagine how mobile technology would be like in the future. As of late, humans keep finding new ways to make our lives easier (and in the process, turn us all into lazy bums). When SpinVox came out with the Voicemail to Text conversion technology, we all knew various companies would start jumping on the bandwagon. Sure enough, Arkansas-based Alltel Corporation launched its Voice2TXT service last Friday, December 14, 2007.

It would cost all Alltel subscribers an extra $4.99 for 20 conversions per month and for 100 conversions -- $19.99. According to SpinVox, their technology could translate not only English but also German, French and Spanish. For $4.99 a month, it's worth taking a spin even just for the heck of it, don't you think? If Alltel holds a concert for this new addition, people would surely be more enamored into trying it out.
