Remember how the last time you wanted to see the latest FCC-approved gadget on your aggregator, but just the thought of turning on your PC for that put you off? Asus has a solution. They call it the ScreenDUO.

Not to be confused with Core Duo or any other technology, Asus’ ScreenDUO looks like a promising secondary display panel that you attach to your desktop, letting you sync info from the PC or websites, meeting schedules and even your RSS feeds.

Now, this generated a lot of excitement for us here on the Whack. Let’s see when it will actually hit the market. No word on the pricing.

    gemei-x27.jpgAnother Portable Media Player doing the rounds is the Gemei X27 Media Player which supports all the usual formats like; MP3, WMA, AVI, JPG, GIF, BMP files. However one can also install FC, GameBoy, Gameboy Color emulators to turn into a poor cousin of the PSP! Other features include; 2.5-inch LTPD LCD, 2GB of internal memory and a miniSD slot. The X27 Media player retails in China for 579 Chinese Yuan.

  • Alienware Area-51 m9750 Laptop

    19588.jpgAlienware fans will be happy to know that the company is all geared up to launch a new 17″ gaming notebook, the m9750. While Alienware is tight-lipped about its date of release, expect it to hit the shelves by January end.

    The Alienware Area-51 m9750 is based on the Intel Core 2 Duo technology and has the distinction of being the world’s first 17″ notebook to feature Nvidia SLI technology . Thus Alienware has no qualms about calling it the “the most powerful 17″ system in the world.

    One also comes across an integrated TV tuner,full-size keyboard with numeric keypad, dual Nvidia graphics cards and dual SATA hard drives. The notebook would come bundled with the Vista OS and one can also configure it with a Blu-ray drive, upto 2GB of RAM and upto 400GB of hard drive. No word on pricing.

The VX2 Series draws inspiration from the the Lamborghini car and has all the latest technologies under its hood including; Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology and Microsoft Windows Vista operation system.

    The ASUS Lamborghini VX2 Notebooks is available in yellow and black and is housed in aluminum-magnesium alloy and carbon fiber respectively. The notebooks also include a special mirror painted surface which not only adds some sheen but also protects the the notebook from scratches etc. Other features include; glare-type LCD display, metallic keyboard and a leather bound palm rest area completed with yellow stitching.

Thus we have the Harman Kardon GPS500 Satellite Navigation System which makes it debut soon and includes features like; a 4-inch widescreen display, a 2GB internal memory, easy-to-use GUI, and multimedia playback capabilities. Not bad for a first timer huh?

    The Harman Kardon GPS500 promises to integrate navigation and multimedia applications seamlessly. Users can enjoy their content and view vital info on the 4-inch widescreen WQVGA LCD display. The device includes mini SD card support up to a 4GB capacity and supports MP3, MP4, WMA, ASF, WAV and OGG. One also comes across an USB 2.0 high-speed interface and a battery which has max life of 5 hours.

    The Harman Kardon GPS500 comes bundled with pocket-sized portable windshield mount, carrying case, wall-mounted AC adapter, in-car cigarette-lighter cable and should retail for around 500 bucks in March.

    ?Convergence of GPS and multimedia systems in a single device is of growing importance to consumers, but most combination GPS/multimedia systems on the market today lack many of the features ? music-browsing control and capability, for one ? found in a single device,? said Mike Giffin, president of the Mobile Systems Division for Harman Consumer Group. ?The Guide + Play GPS-500 can be used while driving, working or relaxing, offering consumers ultimate mobility by enabling them to take their music collections on the road, watch movies on a plane or use the navigation system to find the nearest gas station or restaurant.?

  • sony-s650-thumb.jpgSony pimped up its Cybershot line up by launching a whole bunch of digicams which won’t burn a hole in your pocket (translate-low end models). So we have the Sony DSC-W35 and DSC-W50 whose specs include; a 7.2 megapixel resolution, Blur Reduction Technology,support up to 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duos etc. The W35 has a 2 inch LCD where as the W50 has a 2.4 LCD.

    The CyberShot S Series also saw an upgrade with the release of the DSC-S650 and DSC-S700 which have 7.2 megapixel sensors, support for up to 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duos and include Sony’s Clear RAW(TM) noise reduction technology. The S700 has a 2.4 inch LCD and a 3x Optical zoom Carl Zeiss(R) Vario-Tessar lens where as the S650 has to make do with a 2 inch LCD.

    Instead of the traditional mechanical keypad, the Samsung SCH-W559 features a large 260,000-color QVGA LCD touchscreen display as the phone’s primary input method. Immersion? VibeTonz System allows the touchscreen-displayed buttons to feel more like mechanical keys, and the tactile feedback can help to improve usability when consumers are faced with situations in which controls are obscured by fingers or washed out by glare.

    Other features of the phone include handwriting recognition, a 1.3 megapixel camera, audio and video playback functions, and Bluetooth technology. The Samsung SCH-W559 is designed for global roaming, and works on both GSM and CDMA networks. With the integrated VibeTonz system, the phone also has full-fidelity vibration tracks synchronized with eight preloaded ringtones, that also enable personalization and an element of fun to the phone.

    The Samsung SCH-W559 is available through China Unicon, the world’s third largest mobile operator in the world.

  • Samsung SC-HMX10 HD Camcorder

    samsung-sch-mx10.jpgThe Samsung SC-HMX10 which is the most expensive and the most advance camcorder in Samsung’s line up of Camcorders at CES 2007. The SC-HMX10 according to the good folks of Samsung is “High-Definition”, however Samsung forgot to elaborate further!

    The Samsung SC-HMX10 has been outfitted with a 4GB Flash drive which of course means that the user can store their footage on the drive it self or onto an external media. This one too has the standard 2.7 inch LCD and one also comes across a a 1.5 megapixel CCD for still photos, a 10x optical zoom, SD slot and USB port. The Samsung SC-HMX10 shall retail for $850 and should see a September release.
