Check out this cool new ultra-mobile PC from Beijing Peace East Technology Development Inc, the H9. This one has a nice 800 x 480 resolution 7-inch touchscreen, and runs off the Linux platform. For connectivity, the H9 has built-in WiFi, GPS, GPRS/CDMA, and PCMCIA. There’s a 20GB HDD, which is pretty good for a UMPC. If you need extra storage, there’s the expandable SD card slot. Other specs on the H9 include built-in speakers, microphone & headphone jacks, 128MB of SDRAM, 64MB ROM, and a 520MHz Intel PXA270 processor. The H9 so far is only available in China, but I’d sure love to check out an English version if one ever crops up.

The Sony VAIO UX1 Ultra Mobile PC is coming to the UK! The new UMPC from Sony is only 480g in weigh, but it packs some real punch with 1GB of memory, the Intel Ultra-Low Voltage processor, and Windows Vista Business, making the perfect device for mobile computing.

The Sony VAIO UX1 is great for both work and play. You can watch movies, listen to music, and even view photos, as well as do everything you can do on a full-size PC. With integrated high-speed WiFi, you can take advantage of wireless hotspots and networks to email and surf the web. It features a 4.5-inch widescreen display, which allows for touchscreen capabilities either with your fingers or a stylus. The screen is also visually enhanced with the contrast boosting x-black LCD, and brightly illuminated LED technology.
The UX1 also includes two integrated cameras - one for use with video chat, and the other for taking pictures. The device has no hard disk, but instead has 32GB of flash memory. The advantage of having flash memory over traditional hard drive memory is that everything loads faster, and general operation tends to be highly responsive. It also uses less power, making the average battery life slightly over four hours of continuous use.
With the choice of touchscreen, stylus or the slide-out keyboard, the UX1 exemplifies ease of use. The device can be held either horizontally or vertically as well - whichever you prefer or require for optimum viewing.
The Sony VAIO UX1 features an bundled display/LAN adapter, 3 USB 2.0 ports, AV-out, VGA, LAN, and iLINK. An AC adapter, stylus, carrying stand, and soft case are also provided standard with the UX1.

Like it or not UMPCs are here to stay! While I am not a fan of the concept, I do like the new Innowell 7-inch UMPC ‘UREN’ which was exhibited at the CES 2007. This one also moonlights as a in car navigation system and this is what the specs read like.
The UREN uses Window XP Home Edition as its OS and comes equipped with a 7-inch WVGA TFT LCD, 1.8-inch 30GB HDD, and 256 internal memory. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the UMPC measures around 192(W)*120.5(H)*25(D)mm.
