  • Just recently we’ve heard that Samsung is ready to unveil its own mobile platform called bada this year. Naturally we assumed that the first bada phone will be also announced in December when the bada SDK will be made available but that won’t happen. In fact it looks like the first bada phone will be launched only in the first half of 2010. Will we see the bada phone around the same time Apple launches its fourth generation iPhone? Samsung has failed to make any comments regarding the handset so far but we might know more once the bada SDK becomes official next month.

  • I always get skeptical when I hear the words “world’s smallest” being applied to anything, and I feel the same way when I heard that Wink has claimed that their 16GB flash drive is the smallest on the planet. I’m not certain whether the winking face of Sarah Palin is helping, either.

Yes, they used Sarah Palin (not Tina Fey) in this ad campaign and no, I have no idea if they got permission. Maybe it will help her new book sales. Still, you should see the size comparison after the jump before you make any judgment calls.

  • You’ll be happy to know that Google Maps comes now with support for subway lines. For now some of New York’s subway lines are showing under part of the transit layer and but we expect that Google will include similar support for more cities around the world.

The lines are interactive and you can find out more about a certain line by clicking on it. The maps are also available on Google Maps Mobile which is even better. Now you’ll know exactly what subway lines to choose in order to get to where you’re going.

  • Brinell Purestorage External Hard Drives

I have to admit that I have never seen portable HDDs as nice looking as the Brinell Purestorage line, and I probably never will see anything nicer in the future.

These Purestorage HDDs have 160 to 500GB worth of storage, and they are USB powered. You should be able to purchase one for about $280.

  • If you haven’t got enough of the Fab Four with the Beatles Rock Band video game, then I highly suggest purchasing this Apple shaped USB device.

This Apple contains the remastered Beatles catalog that has MP3 and FLAC versions of 14 stereo titles, as well as 13 mini-documentary films about the albums, original replications of the original UK album art, rare photos, and liner notes. The 16GB device is shaped like an apple because it is Apple corps that is the Beatles music publisher.

This Beatles USB catalog will be released in North America on December 8th, and will cost $279.99.

Google Wave getting an app store

The Internet is buzzin’ about Google Wave despite the fact that only a select number of individuals, and their friends, are actually able to use the service.

We kind of know what it does, we kind of know how it works, but today Google told us something we didn’t know; it’s going to feature it’s own app store off sorts. That’s right, developers will actually be able to produce Wave extensions and upload them to the store from which users can purchase said extensions.

It’s a cool feature, but we’ll have to wait until Google announces more like how much the typical extension will cost until we pass final judgment.

If you ever had to set up a computer, one of the most time-consuming processes is to individually download each and every program you want. Fortunately, a new program known as Ninite allows users the ability to install up to 59 pieces of software easily. This is available at the Ninite site, and the user can pick whatever software programs that he or she wants.

Not bad, huh? Now, if only there was an application for installing multiple mobile apps on a mobile device.

Get a Kindle on your PC

Those of you who want the Kindle, but don’t want to invest in the device itself will be happy to know that Amazon will be launching a PC app next month. This app will allow PC users to create a Kindle account and send Kindle e-books and periodicals to a PC via a wired or wireless network. It also allows users to read an e-book on a PC while at home, then send that same e-book to a Kindle iPhone app or actual Kindle to pick up where he or she left off.

  • Acer gives the world first 3D laptop

It seems like a day can’t go by without us reporting on something new by Acer, and the company is now telling the world that they have the first 3D laptop.

This “TriDef 3D Experience” allows users to view 2D movies as well as photos in 3D, provided the user wears the glasses. Oh yeah, the 3D effect also works for any Direct X 9 game. It works with a special brew of software, a screen coating, as well as the glasses.

My source does not say when Acer will be putting this out, but I will be listening intently.

  • Everyone that happens to own an iPhone, Android or webOS smartphone in the USA will be happy to notice that Google has decided to improve mobile search capabilities for these platforms. Users will be available to take advantage of search features similar to those found on the regular Google search engine version found on your PC. These new search options will definitely improve the quality of your results as you’ll be able to add various filters to your future searches. By using specific filters like “forums” or “time of day” you’ll be able to find the most relevant and most recent articles, news and even user opinion related to the topics, products or events that you happen to Google for while you’re on the move. Unfortunately, in case you own a Symbian of Windows Mobile smartphone you should consider either switching platforms or wait for Google to remember you exist too. The upgraded mobile search engine is available for now just for iPhone OS, Android and webOS handsets.

And if you’re going to paint using your iPhone or iPod touch then you might as well get inspired by an artist. David Hockney has been using various gadgets to work his magic and now he is painting with his iPhone. His iPhone paintings have been exhibited at the Tate Gallery and Royal Academy in London and in various Los Angeles and German locations. The artist has been using the initial version of Brushes so that’s the app to get if you’re planning to start your painting career on your iPhone.

Windows 7 is still about 2 weeks away from hitting store shelves but that hasn’t stopped an unnamed university bookstore from selling it early.

Above is a picture sent to Engadget by a lucky student who was able to pick up Microsoft’s latest operating system ahead of release.

As for the rest of us, we’ll still be stuck waiting until October 22nd.

The Sidekick Download Catalog has updated today with additions of both Facebook and Twitter applications. The applications are available for the 2008 Sidekick, Sidekick LX, and Sidekick Slide.

The Facebook application is free of charge, although the Twitter application does not share the same fate, costing a rather pricey $2 a month.

The 2009 Sidekick came pre-packaged with these applications.

It’s been three months since the Nokia Ovi Store launched, and the mobile provider finally released download numbers on Thursday. Since May 26th, the Ovi Store has only had ten million downloads. Nokia has said that the average user has downloaded six items, resulting in only 1.67 million users using the store. These numbers, in comparison to the App Store’s 100 million downloads in two months, aren’t exactly appealing.

It’s important to note that that sales went up 50% from July to August, so there is still hope for the service. Fortunately, as announced yesterday, Nokia will be releasing developer tools to have more applications made for their store. Additionally, three new languages (Portuguese, French and simplified Chinese) will be supported by the end of the year. Nokia has also bumped their quota up to 500 applications will be approved every week.

Applications created by the new developer tools will be released onto the Ovi Store beginning next year.

If recent reports are to be believed we may be seeing Apple’s latest update for their Mac OS X operating system, Snow Leopard, hitting store shelves as early as August 28th.

News comes to us from Macenstein who have gotten their hands on support training documents for Snow Leopard which gives us a hint that the update will be dropping soon. In fact, their sources were quoted to have said that an August 28th launch seems “extremely likely”.

View a copy of the support training document after the break.
