It looks like the New York State has officially banned texting and driving. From now on you should definitely stop sending SMS messages while driving. If you happen to get caught you will pay a fine up to $150. Next time you text and drive in New York you’d better ask yourself if it’s worth doing it. Not because there is a fine but because texting and driving is actually more dangerous than driving under the influence. Other states have similar laws in place and we can assume that more will follow so start getting used to stopping the car if you absolutely need to answer some of those incoming messages.

BlackBerry owners will be happy to hear that RIM is interested to hire a “WebKit Developer.” That means the Canadian company is considering developing a totally new mobile browser. It’s actually not a secret anymore as RIM did purchase Torch Mobile a while ago, which happens to be the company that created the WebKit-based Iris browser. Apparently that’s not enough and RIM needs a more qualified WebKit developer to help out with the cause. A new browser for the BlackBerry OS will definitely be a blessing so if you happen to have the needed skills then go ahead and apply for the job! We’ve been waiting for a new mobile Internet browser for BlackBerry smartphones for too long now.

Do you own a PlayStation 3 Slim already? In case you don’t then you should get one this week. The 250GB PlayStation 3 Slim is confirmed to arrive in the USA on November 3 and it’s said to cost $349.99. That’s just $50 more than the 120GB model. Do you think it’s worth getting it?

It looks like Best Buy is almost ready to sell the console too as the new PS3 Slim has been spotted in Best Buy’s inventory. The picture has been taken in a Best Buy backroom in Houston, not that it matters that much. Most Best Buy stores must have received the console so you’ll probably find the 250GB PS3 Slim in a Best Buy store near you next week. Anyone excited yet?

For some reason eBook readers are more and more popular these days. After the Kindle we’ve seen Sony’s reader, Barnes & Noble’s Nook and Plastic Logic’s QUE. Asus is also working on a few eReaders and it seems that Creative decided to make one of its own. Dubbed the MediaBook, Creative’s eBook reader might be based on the Zii platform and it’s said to come with some very impressive features like a color touchscreen display ready to let you read all the eBooks you want and support for videos and pictures. Although this MediaBook did get leaked there are no leaked pictures yet. And it’s way too early for pricing details and release dates so we’ll all have to wait for Creative to announce the reader until we get too excited about it.

Barnes & Noble has just announced its first eBook reader, the Nook and it looks like the company is planning to take its business to the next level. The company is currently looking to hire a “head of their international business.” In other words, if you happen to have a great, ecommerce-oriented and educated mind and have the guts to apply and the job could be yours. Candidates from New York are encouraged to send in their resumes but European-based executives will also be accepted.

There are no details regarding the future of Barnes & Noble’s international branch but we’ll be back with those once the company has a team in place ready for action.

iPhone OS 3.1.2 has been unlocked already and you can expect to be able to unlock your iPhone on November 4. The unlock is possible thanks to Geohot, the same hacker that managed to jailbreak OS 3.1.2. Next week you should be looking for Blacksn0w which will do the trick for you. In case you use Blackra1n for jailbreaking the iPhone then you’ll be able to download the unlock solution straight from it.

Just make sure you know what you’re doing before performing any jailbreaking and/or unlocking operations. We’re certainly not recommending such activities which can lead to all sorts of troubles with your carrier, not to mention Apple, in the future.

Sony Ericsson Rachael Video Leaks

Next Tuesday Sony Ericsson is going to launch its first Android device, the Xperia X3 aka Rachael. Although most people are busy pre-ordering the Droid from Verizon, they should really stop and see what this Rachael phone is all about. The teaser above has been officially leaked and the handset looks pretty interesting. Sure 20 seconds of video featuring a turned-off device isn’t enough for us, is it? But at least we know the Rachael looks better than expected. All we need now are some decent specs and a matching personality and we might just have a Droid competitor on our hands!

I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of USB sticks floating around my house and desk, and can’t help but wonder about the environmental impact of this. I mean, if I have this much wasted USB sticks, then how many other people have my problem?

I suppose this is why Boardy USB sticks were made. Personally, I think “Boardy” is a pretty juvenile name, but I like the concept: making memory sticks from recycled paper. Let’s see these Boardys be given out at conventions instead of wasted USB sticks!

There’s a new player in the eBook readers business. Asus has confirmed that it will launch new eReaders in March 2010. The company confirmed that these devices will come with features like WiFi, 3G and WiMAX connectivity. Why would we need WiMAX in an eBook reader anyway? We don’t have all the specs but it looks like Asus plans to launch two eBooks, a 6- and a 9-inch model. Asus will test those readers in Taiwan before they become available in Europe and the U.S. Unfortunately it’s too early for pricing details so you’ll just have to wait a while for them. Of course you could pick a Nook or a Kindle in the mean time and get your reading on.

It would appear that transparent displays aren’t the only cool thing at the Flat Panel Display show in Yokohama City, Japan. Electronics giant Samsung put a 10.1 inch electronic paper on display.

This e-paper device is 0.7mm thick, and has a pixel count of 450 x 600. Granted, the contrast ratio is a weak 10:1, but Samsung doesn’t intend to have it on the market until one to two years from now.

Polymer Vision’s Readius to get new life?

It has been a while since we covered the Readius from Polymer Vision. The Readius was supposed to be a terrific portable e-reader/mobile phone with a retracting flexible screen, but sadly, Polymer Vision went bankrupt.

But it is the end? It probably is only the beginning as Wistron made a bid for the company over the summer, and approved of an 18 million investment. Also, Polymer Vision is acting as a spin-off of Acer as of September. Perhaps the Polymer Vision will see mass-marketing one day.

It would appear that the rumors that the DSi will be getting a 4 inch screen is completely false. Yes, both screens will be at 4.25 inches, a whole inch larger than the one that is has now. You can see in the photo a lovely before and after comparison.

The larger-screen DSi will first be launched in Japan as the DSi LL in November 21 for $220. Then it will appear in Europe in the first quarter of 2010 as the DSi XL. There doesn’t appear to be any word of this appearing in North America as yet.

If you’re a T-Mobile UK customer packing a Nokia phone then you’ll probably be more than happy to find out that your carrier is going to offer you Nokia’s Comes With Music service. The offer is only available if you get a new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone with it too. The service will be available free of charge for a whole year once you chose a new 2-year plan of at least £30 per month. Besides unlimited music downloads you will also get unlimited mobile Internet and unlimited SMS messages so the bundle doesn’t sound bad at all, does it?

MSI reader to have Tegra graphics? Possibly.

As if the news of ECTACO’s JetBook Lite wasn’t enough, we have some more e-reader news. This one is more rumor than fact, however, as MSI plans on making a reader with NVidia Tegra graphics. Will this e-reader madness ever end? Rumor has it that this MSI reader will be out by 2010, so we will know by then.

It feels like the e-book reader market is flooded with the Nook, Kindle, and everything else. ECTACO has just released their second e-book reader with the jetBook-Lite, the company claims it is the cheapest reader at $149. It uses 4 AA batteries for 23 hours of power. It supports the Barnes and Noble bookstore, SD cards, but does not do wireless downloads.

Peek has a deal going on at Blockbuster. Right now, you can get the smartphone dedicated to email and text messaging at Blockbuster video for $59.99 with the $14.99 monthly fee for service. Plus if you act now, those who buy the Peek can get one month free of Blockbuster Total Access, allowing the user to rent DVDs and Blu-ray’s by mail or in the store. By the way, the Peek has a new version for dedicated Twitter access. It’s nice, really.

This isn’t the first time we reported on Bridgestone’s flexible e-paper, and the company has now developed the world’s first flexible e-book reader. This prototype has 10.7 inch screen, and is 5.8 mm thick. It can display color, by the way, and the company plans to test it out on consumers by spring of next year.

Can this be true? According to a report from the publication, a new Nintendo DSi is coming with 4 inch screens (it currently has a 3.25 inch screen now).

If this rumor is true, the four inch DSi will be released in Japan.
