There are fanboys and then there are fanboys; this next item is for the latter ones who still debate whether Princess Leia had a thing for Luke Skywalker or not.  StarWarsShop now offers Wii players a chance to embrace the dark side of the force with the Darth Vader Sensor Bar Holder, which is modeled around Vader himself holding a lightsaber that supports the Wii Sensor Bar.  The Darth Vader sculpture is made of resin and staying true to the mythology, the lightsaber is blood red.  A must-have for die-hard Star Wars fans who would like to have their favorite antihero of all time in their living room, minus the asthmatic wheezing.  Going now for $50.

  • Here’s something for all our Harry Potter fans out there: A wand that actually does magic! Well, no, not really, but it does have some powers over your everyday gadgets that use infrared signals.  Simply called “The Wand,” the device can apparently control appliances like your TV or DVD player by using gestures like swishing, whirling, and flicking.  What makes this possible is an onboard integrated processor and an accelerometer, which enables it to learn up to 13 types of infrared controls.  The Wand also provides haptic confirmation of gestures and has a battery level indicator with a 60-second sleep mode.  Where do you get it? Head over to Diagon Alley Firebox and you can preorder it right now (Spellbook not included).

I don’t even know how many times I’ve picked up the phone expecting to hear a human on the other end but was instead met with a robotic prerecorded voice. Just like everyone else I proceeded to hang up without listening to the voice for more than 2 seconds.

Luckily, the days of these robotic marketing calls are numbered as the Federal Trade Commission has recently announced that they will be made illegal and violators could face fines up to $16,000 per call. Below is a quote from FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz:

Starting September 1, this bombardment of prerecorded pitches, senseless solicitations, and malicious marketing will be illegal. If consumers think they’re being harassed by robocallers, they need to let us know, and we will go after them.

Don’t get too excited yet as the ban doesn’t include prerecorded marketing calls from banks, politicians, charities or telephone companies. Bummer.

Now here’s something you don’t see everyday — Pictured above is an iPhone 3G that reportedly got too hot and decided to explode.

As you can see, the explosion was powerful enough to leave a crater in the car seat which Gizmodo points out, looks like the work of a meteor.

Is this one true? Who knows, but if so, Apple may be looking at a law suit.

Do you have more USB powered peripherals laying around your house than you have USB ports to power them? Well then does Cambrionix have a solution for you; their 49-port USB hub.

OK, so maybe it’s not marketed towards those who have a extensive gadget collection, but it’s still damn cool. Cambrionix says that the hub is for professional use, such as test labs or other commercial applications, but I’m sure some consumers can put it to good use.

If you actually want to get your hands on Cambrionix’s 49-port USB hub you’re going to have to pony up £399 or around $660. Don’t forget to add this to the fact that it needs to be connected to a ATX power supply to actually function. Any takers?

What you see above is no ordinary router, oh no, it’s Ruckus Wireless’ Zone Flex 7762 $2,000 outdoor router. And no, it’s not made of gold.

Anyways, this router apparently uses integrated BeamFlex Smart Antenna technology that will result in higher performance, extended coverage and a ridiculously high level of consitency. Couple that with its 802.11n technology and built-in heater for those cold nights and you have yourself a perfect outdoor router solution.

Ruckus Wireless markets this particular piece of hardware towards commercial use such as outdoor pool areas at hotels and resorts as it’s a bit expensive to be justified for at-home use

Are you looking for a smartphone or a laptop? What about both? Dell has a hot offer for you right now. The Vostro and the Nokia N97 will be sold together for the special price of $730.  You can get that special price after applying a $399 off coupon to your shopping cart but you have you have to act fast! The offer will be available until July 1 or until supply lasts. If you take advantage right away of this deal and then sell the Vostro for around $400 (retails regularly at $420) then you’ll actually end up paying only around $350 for the unlocked N97. That’s a more than impressive price to pay for Nokia’s current flagship phone. Right now the N97 is not available from any carrier in the USA so anyone interested in it would have to get it for the regular price of $699 from a Nokia store. And if you do decide to keep the laptop for yourself you’re still the winner! You’ll be paying just $730 for a combined value of $1,120.

Sony to Drop Playstation 3 Price?

This is a nice but unexpected surprise! In case that there still are PlayStation 3 lovers out there, they should know that Sony might finally drop the price. According to rumors such a move will be made at the same time EA Sport will release the next Madden version this fall so you’ll still have to wait a while before getting a cheaper Playstation 3.

Considering that the PS3 has been trailing behind the Wii and the Xbox 360 for a while now, Sony should definitely charge less for it. Or can we go ahead and speculate that a new PlayStation console is going to arrive soon and therefore the price cut is absolutely necessary?

iPhone 3GS Is Going to Canada Too

One of the first countries to get the new iPhone 3GS, besides the USA, is Canada. The new Apple smartphone will be available starting with June 19 and you’ll be able to buy it from Rogers or Fido; you choose! As for prices, the Canadian iPhone 3GS will cost as follows: $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. Just like in the States the old 8GB iPhone 3G will cost $99 on contract. In case you already own one of those 3Gs from Rogers or Fido an you are not qualifying for any hardware upgrade program then you will get the iPhone 3GS with no strings attached.

Did you like all that? Well we have more! Tethering will be available if you have a data plan that offers at least 1GB of traffic per month. And that should be quite easy to obtain since those 6GB for $30 per month data plans will be back in action. Wondering about MMS? Well those will be supported as soon as the new iPhone 3.0 OS gets launched. A new iPhone value pack will tell you more about that whole MMS thing.

Doesn’t all that sound just a little better than what AT&T is currently offering? Which comes to my real question: what has AT&T been doing while Apple cooked up the new iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3.0 OS? Shouldn’t they have been prepared to launch the iPhone 3GS at full speed?

While public availability will be staggered to May 5, the much-awaited Windows 7 release candidate will be available first to developers on the Microsoft Developers’ Network by the end of this month on April 30.  The news was announced by Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc on the Windows Team Blog recently and he had this to say:

There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.  I’m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for  download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th.

We will keep you posted when the Windows 7 RC is ready for download, so stay tuned

It’s official, the Billion App Countdown promotion recently ran by Apple has come to an end. Apple seems very satisfied with the reception of the App Store, proudly announcing that over 1 billion apps have been downloaded in 9 months.

But who cares about that, right? Who won the MacBook Pro, $10,000 iTunes Giftcard, and 32GB iPod touch? No one yet; as you can see above Apple is telling everyone to come back to the announcement page “soon” to find out who won.

As of July 2006, it was estimated that there are over 2.4 billion cell phone users worldwide. That’s a big number, right? Well, take this into consideration; In the month of March, there were 15.6 million new cellphone users in India. That’s just one month alone.

Now this isn’t a completely random expansion as Indian service providers have begun expanding their networks to a larger portion of country.

Honestly though, 15.6 million new cellphone users in 1 month? That’s just nuts!

Here’s something that’s sure to spawn an all new safety campaign — It seems that a 25 year old Canadian woman was reported dead on the scene after being in a car accident on the way to work.

Apparently, her car was struck by a tow truck causing her unsecurced laptop in the back seat to fly forward and hit her in the back of the head. Yahoo reports she died as a result of blunt force trauma.

This is terrible news, but let’s see how long it takes for someone to invent a product that prevents this problem.

If Apple clearing its stocks and this can’t convince you that the company has the next iPhone cooking, we are not sure what else can, unless you would like to hear about it from El Jobso himself.  Similar to what we saw last year before the iPhone 3G debuted, Apple is now amassing a huge number of 8Gb NAND flash chips, and when we say a huge number, think 100 million, which is twice the amount grabbed by Apple last year.  A big part of these 8-gigabit chips (combined to achieve the gigabytes of memory that ultimately make their way to our cell phones) are to come from Samsung, straining the flash chip market almost dry for other vendors.  Does this mean that we will see a 32GB iPhone come June?  If that’s true, we hope that that won’t be the only improvement over the iPhone 3G we are looking for.

Forget headphones and earphones. How about some nice shoulderphones?  That’s what a Korean company seems to be marketing with a product called Soundwalk, an unsightly contraption that’s supposed to be hung on your shoulders to omit the need of headphones, thereby preventing any accidents that might occur if you are jogging to the tunes on your iPod oblivious to the outside world.  The Soundwalk speaker vest is powered by two AAA batteries and has two speakers tucked into the shoulder pads, an ideal place because of the proximity to the ears providing best quality sound, while leaving the user aware of his/her surroundings.  Also present is a front pocket to house your favorite mp3 player, connecting directly to the shoulder speakers.

The Soundwalk speaker vest is now available in Europe and on some online sites at £39.99 (approx. $55), but beware of the severe drop in style points that you might experience once you take the plunge.
