  • Nokia N95

High-speed internet on your mobile phone is here, thanks to the new Nokia N95 with support for High Speed Download Package Access (HSDPA) in North American networks. The spanking new N95 is now shipping across the US. Featuring some new upgrades - including Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology - N95 users can also take advantage of the new SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian OS to enjoy your home TV programming. You can even watch broadcasts of content recorded to a DVR from anywhere a HSDPA or WiFi network is available.

The Nokia N95’s integrated A-GPS combined with Nokia Maps is great for mapping and routing in over 150 countries and there’s support for full turn-by-turn satellite navigation in over 30 countries. If you hurry, you can also get a 1-month navigation license, a city guide of your choice and additional maps pre-loaded on a 1GB memory card.

Priced at US $699, the new Nokia N95 is now available at the Nokia Flagship Store in New York City and Chicago. It is definitely tempting me to chuck out my Nokia N73 music edition phone but at that price I’d probably keep my N73 for a few more months.

  • Nokia RM-242 Mobile Phone

Nokia has yet another music phone that got the FCC approval today. Termed the RM-242 - no, that’s just the FCC ID - the phone is clearly a music phone judging by its facade. It features play/pause buttons right in between the answer/hang-up keys. The phone comes in a slider form factor and appears to be a Java-based phone. It’s got a 3.2 megapixel camera (supporting video). It is 3G-compatible (WCDMA 850 and 2100 are supported) and is a quad-band GSM world phone.

The phone features a 2.5mm audio connector, as well as USB interface for data sync. For additional memory, it supports microSD memory cards. There’s also support for Nokia Xpress audio messaging. Other usual goodies include FM radio, Visual Radio, Voice Recorder, Equalizer, and Push-To-Talk support.

No word on the pricing yet, but the new Nokia phone should hit the markets soon.

And, WLAN/UMA provides excellent coverage and sound quality, even in areas where mobile phone reception has previously been poor.

  • nokia-maps2.jpgNokia launched their mobile application known as Nokia Maps a few months ago, and while some companies take years to update their software, the folks from Nokia are different and didn’t take much time to update the application taking in consideration the feedback received by the users, which is always a good thing to do because it shows that they are worried to please their clients.

Anyway, the changes made on this update are good for the most part, such as:

    - new user interface that only has the essential functions and menus
    - upgraded search function with categories included
    - 3-day trial Navigation license as bonus
    - improved map loader which makes the speed of map transfers 10 times faster

    transformers_phone.jpg

Nokia has just revealed its Limited Edition Nokia 5300 Transformers Mobile Phone. In reality, the phone features the same functionalities as the 5300 XpressMusic but with a different casing. What’s even more regretful is that the phone in itself does not even transform into anything, just a phone with a different “Transformer” casing. As seen on the picture above, its definitely different that some of you might want to try.

  • e51.jpg

There’s another E-Series coming in for Nokia this year. With a publication of a user agent profile on the Nokia web site, we now know of this fact. The Nokia E51 will be expected by everybody. The phone runs on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and offers GSM, EDGE, WCDMA, HSDPA and WiFi data connectivity, has a QVGA screen and a numeric phone keypad.

The E51 is likely a direct replacement for the the Nokia E50. S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 means the phone supports a range of new technologies compared to its predecessors. These include the A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth profiles for stereo audio over Bluetooth, the H.264 video codec and the second version of the S60 browser.

As seen in the photo, th S60 key icon has been changed from the familiar S60 swirl to a ‘house’. This is likely, at least initially, to be an Eseries only change. The phone also includes hardware buttons for Calendar, Contacts and Messaging. Also of interest is the large central delete button, almost certainly aimed at improving the ease of managing email, and the central charging jack, implying that connectivity is via miniUSB.

Styling is very similar to the Nokia E90, which gives the top and bottom end of the Eseries a nice symmetry.

  • Nokia 6267 Phone

    6267_03.jpg

Nokia launched a new 6267 S40 clamshell media phone today. The device is a quad-band GSM/EDGE handset that also supports UMTS 3G connections on the 2100 and 850MHz frequency bands. It would work in Europe and other parts of America.

The 6267 is aimed at the mid-tier market, and as such focuses on keeping cost, as well as complexity, down. The phone offers dedicated music controls on the exterior of the flip and has a 2 megapixel main camera for taking snapshots. Its microSD memory card slot supports cards as large as 4GB in capacity, which is enough for a lot of photos, videos, and music tracks.

Other standout features on the 6267 include a 16M color main QVGA (240×320) display, a 262k color 128×160 pixel external display, and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. The Bluetooth system supports A2DP stereo connections, which makes sense for a music friendly phone like the 6267.

The Nokia 6267’s battery powers the phone for up to 6.5 hours of talk time and up to 12.5 days of standby time. The phone is expected to sell at 240EUR and starts shipping in Q3 of this year.

  • Nokia 5310 XpressMusic Gets FCC Nod

    Nokia 5310 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic (for some reason listed as the Nokia 5310b XpressMusic in the manuals) mobile phone got approval from the FCC. Featuring an aluminium finish, it is 9.9mm thin and weighs in at just 71 grams.

Nokia claims an 18-hour music playback time (of course, this doesn’t include talk time). The phone can take in microSD memory cards up to 4GB in capacity - good for up to 3000 songs. There’s a 2 megapixel camera on board. The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic also features a 2 inch QVGA screen that offers 16 million colors.

Thanks to the FCC approval, the phone is on target for its Q4 2007 release. Priced at €225 before taxes and subsidies, there’s no info on when it will hit the US markets.

  • Nokia_5610_XpressMusic2.jpgNokia 5610 XpressMusic is the upgraded version of the 5310 model, besides having higher specifications, it is also more expensive when comparing to the low-end version. As it happens with the 5310, it also has dedicated media buttons to make the usability easier for everyone, meaning that you don’t need to actually slide the cellphone to control the music – it is all controlled via a slider key.

The new 5610 comes with a 2.2-inch QVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Symbian Series 40, the usual FM radio, bluetooth, and a way to expand the storage capacity by using a microSD memory card, once again it has a maximum limit of 4GB.

Nokia is touting a new 3D multimedia menu on the N81, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

The Nokia N81 lets you access the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage games services, allowing you to search, buy and manage your music and games. Expect the Nokia N81 to be priced at €360, and the 8GB model at €430. Both mobile phones will hit the markets in Q4 2007.

  • Nokia 6131i Phone

n1.jpgNokia released its Nokia 6131i, the world’s first business cell phone integrated with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in China. The phone will be released through Xiamen, Guangzhou and Beijing.

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a new, short-range wireless connectivity technology that evolved from a combination of existing contactless identification and interconnection technologies. Products with built-in NFC will dramatically simplify the way consumer devices interact with one another, helping people speed connections, receive and share information and even make fast and secure payments.

Operating at 13.56 MHz and transferring data at up to 424 Kbits/second, NFC provides intuitive, simple, and safe communication between electronic devices. Communication between two NFC-compatible devices occurs when they are brought within four centimeters of one another: a simple wave or touch can establish an NFC connection, which is then compatible with other known wireless technologies such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

NFC can be used with a variety of devices, from mobile phones that enable payment or transfer information to digital cameras that send their photos to a TV set with just a touch. The possibilities are endless.
