A 10-year old kid got some second-degree burns after his pants caught on fire when an iPod touch exploded in his pants. The MP3 player was turned off at the time of the fire but his pants did catch fire:
Plaintiff A.V. immediately ran to the bathroom and took off his burning pants with the assistance of a friend. On said date and at said time, the Apple iTouch had burned through Plaintiff A.V.’s pants pocket and melted through his nylon/spandex underwear, burning his leg.
Well is that possible at all? Will nylon melt at temperatures less that 374 degreees? How much will Apple pay for all this?

The iPhone Dev Team has jailbroken the iPod touch 2G and it’s all free for you to use. You can always get that $15 NitroKey Slipstream iPod touch 2 jailbreak solution but why not get the free version instead? From what we hear, NitroKey uses the Dev Team’s code and the team didn’t want anyone to charge for something that’s supposed to be free. Why didn’t they launch the free version earlier? Well the Dev Team wanted to keep that jailbreak-enabling security hole under wraps until Apple released a new iPhone.

The Apple iPod shuffle, the usual starting device for people to get into the iPod craze has long been forgotten due to the various iPod variants introduced in the market.
Today, Apple announced the launch of the new iPod shuffle, the world’s smallest music player at nearly half of the size of the previous model, and the first music player that talks to you. The revolutionary new VoiceOver feature enables iPod shuffle to speak your song titles, artists and playlist names.
The third generation iPod shuffle is significantly smaller than a AA battery, holds up to 1,000 songs and is easier to use with all of the controls conveniently located on the earphone cord. With the press of a button, you can play, pause, adjust volume, switch playlists and hear the name of the song and artist. iPod shuffle features a gorgeous new aluminum design with a built-in stainless steel clip that makes it ultra-wearable.
The third generation 4GB iPod shuffle is now shipping and comes in silver or black for a suggested price of $79 (US) through the Apple Store(R) (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. iPod shuffle comes with the Apple Earphones with Remote and the iPod shuffle USB cable. iPod shuffle requires a Mac(R) with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS(R) X v10.4.11 or later and iTunes(R) 8.1 or later; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista, Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3) or later and iTunes 8.1.

Fatman’s iTube 452 delivers warm, live sounding audio quality and delivers amazing power. It’s a $2,992 valve amp, with nine heat-pumping valves to drive audio. Valve amps are something of a retro choice these days, but they do offer a unique type of sound, similar to the way that vinyl sounds very different to CD.
With the iPod classic plugged directly into the iTube 452 and a pair of Denon CX3 speakers, sound quality is just fantastic, with so much warmth and spirit. The 452 does come with a separate iPod dock called the ValveDock which doesn’t quite reflect the main system’s special design and build. It feels lightweight, almost like it was an afterthought. The iTube seems particulalry suited to rock, acoustic, folk, country, classical, and particularly vocal-driven music.

Forget headphones and earphones. How about some nice shoulderphones? That’s what a Korean company seems to be marketing with a product called Soundwalk, an unsightly contraption that’s supposed to be hung on your shoulders to omit the need of headphones, thereby preventing any accidents that might occur if you are jogging to the tunes on your iPod oblivious to the outside world. The Soundwalk speaker vest is powered by two AAA batteries and has two speakers tucked into the shoulder pads, an ideal place because of the proximity to the ears providing best quality sound, while leaving the user aware of his/her surroundings. Also present is a front pocket to house your favorite mp3 player, connecting directly to the shoulder speakers.
The Soundwalk speaker vest is now available in Europe and on some online sites at £39.99 (approx. $55), but beware of the severe drop in style points that you might experience once you take the plunge.

The new Sony NW-S730FK series Walkman is out on the market and you will be able to choose from two models, the NW-S738FK and the NW-S736FK. The two devices will be featuring a 2-inch TFT display, very good sound quality, support for many audio formats as well as a linear PCM or the ATRAC advanced Lossless. You can watch videos and stock up to 8Gb or 4Gb of files. Storage space is the only difference between the two. What more can you ask for? As far as I am concerned if you don’t have an iPod or the intention to buy one you could always go with a new Sony Walkman. These ones will be out on March 14th.

For those of you following the OLED Walkman from Sony we have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the touchscreen Walkman is available from Amazon. The bad news is that it’s coming only from Amazon UK for the moment.
You will be able to pre-order a 16GB version for around $308 and a 32GB version for about $407. The Sony devices are expected to ship between two and five weeks from now, so you’ll have to keep waiting to actually get it. When will it hit Amazon USA? We have no idea just yet.

Cowon has announced the launch of D2+, a successor to to its popular portable media player, the D2. So, what’s new in this iteration. As far as we can see, not much. The D2+ seems to have retained the same 2.5-inch 16-million-color touchscreen display, the same support for SD/SDHC/MMC, FM radio, TV-out, USB 2.0 connectivity, and support for MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, and WAV in audio formats with H.264, MP4, and WMV9 video. BBE+ sound enhancement, which can already be found on the Cowon S9, makes an appearance along with a DMB TV tuner, which makes this new mp3 player only a marginal upgrade over the D2.
There are no details on pricing or availability, but considering the sucess of the D2, it would be wise for Cowon to stick to a worldwide release than just limited to Korea.

How many more iPod docks can there be invented? What do you think because I’ve stopped counting. This time at least it’s not a weird concept dock. No, it’s more like a sport suitcase. And here are some of its features: 2.1-70Watts RMS audio system from Cabasse, analog and digital audio input, wake up and sleep mode, a splendid Hi-Fi 2.1 eFizz stereo system, an eye catching 1.8 inch color LCD screen, a powerful eFizz iPod music enhancer and a HandMusic remote.
The Ewoo eFizz iPod dock can be yours for $499.99 and it’s compatible with all iPods. Feel like spending that much for a dock looking like a suitcase?

If you’re one of those yet untouched by the all around economy crisis and you just happen’ to have 90 bucks to spare here’s what you could invest it in. Speakal created a new iPod dock, the iBoo. I obviously presume you have an iPod, cause I mean, who doesn’t? The iBoo is a sensor remote controlled sound system, incorporating a nine-watt subwoofer along with two speakers and a 3.5 mm input jack for connecting whatever else you might see fit. You should be happy to know that you can get the iBoo in white, blue or red, but most importantly that it’s a very eco-friendly device, free of all toxic compounds established by RoHS.
I hope Speakal will soon design more freaky gadgets! Stay tuned as you’ll be the first to find out when these come out.

If big displays and unlimited storage isn’t your cup of tea, Samsung’s U5 DoReMi might fit your bill perfect. Though not a big favorite among the mp3-loving masses around the world, the U3 did make a tiny dent in the Korean market, which might be the only motive for Samsung to produce the next version in its U series. Features include a 4-line OLED display, integrated USB plug, 18 hours of playtime, FM radio support, and recording capability.
There is no information on when or for how much this is going to be released, but I am pretty sure you aren’t too stoked about it.

The iPod nano in the picture here is the Elton John special edition. Each iPod has 250 color-coordinated Swarovski cyrstals embedded in the case. As you might have already guessed, these iPods are pretty expensive, but 12,5% of what you’ll be paying will be donated to Elton John’s AIDS Foundation. That’s $45 out of $565 for every 8GB iPod nano or $51 out of $640 for the 16GB version. Each iPod will come with Elton John’s Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits CD pre-installed.
