NW-E013.jpg

Sony has come up with a bogus design in one of their MP3 Players. Probably designed to target the more feminine demographic, Sony has released its NW-E013 Walkman that is, believe it or not, shaped like a lipstick.

This Walkman will see action in the Japanese market from December 19th onwards, and will definitely lean towards the female population thanks to its glossy body that comes in a wide variety of eye-catching colors.

The NW-E013 will weigh a mere 28 grams, and maxes out at 1GB of storage space and would make a great companion for those who spend time at the gym. The Sony NW-E013 is tipped to retail for approximately $102.

  • COWON’s next-gen portable media player, the Q5W Wireless PMP, began shipping today and is now available for purchase at a variety of online retailers including JetMall (www.jetmall.net), and at select U.S. authorized retailers such as Amazon.com, Newegg.com, B&H Photo-Video, ZipZoomFly.com and eBay.com. The COWON Q5W offers the ultimate wireless connectivity and multimedia experience in a single portable device, and competes against other similar devices on the market already, namely the Apple iPod Touch.

    cowonq5w.JPG

The COWON Q5W features WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows CE 5.0 Pro, Optional GPS Navigation, and a slick 5-inch LCD touch screen. With its WiFi capability, you can surf the internet and even chat on instant messenger with the built-in MSN Messenger service. It also comes pre-loaded with Flash 7 support, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy all of the web and sites like YouTube with embedded flash videos.

The COWON Q5W also has a wireless remote control, FM radio and recorder, voice recorder with internal microphone, TV-out supporting component, built-in stereo speakers, s-video and composite connections, and a full-screen photo and document view.

In other words, this device has literally everything you could ever want besides a phone. But with the voice-chat capabilities of MSN Messenger, it’s not such a big deal. The price for such a neat device, however, is a bit steep. For the 40GB configuration it’ll cost $5449.99, and the 60GB set up is priced $599.99. An additional GPS navigation package is available for $199.99.

  • DVB-700.jpg
Some days it looks like Asian companies release portable media players just for fun, and today is one of those days, with Yung Fun presenting the DVB-700. The unique characteristic of this player, that can’t be seen on any other player on earth, is the inclusion of a handle so you can transport it easier.

The DVB-700 has a large 7-inch LCD screen and is able to playback MPEG-2 format files, for video and audio purposes. It comes with a built-in speaker in case you don’t want to use the headphones, but evidently it also has a earphone jack.

    Memorex releases MMP8551 MP3 Player

memorex-MMP8551-mp3-player.jpgMemorex has recently released its latest MP3 player entitled MMP8551. In case you haven’t noticed, this player is kind of similar to the iPod in some aspects, like not having a screen to display information about each song, and also being very simple design-wise, but at the same time very enjoyable to look at. Having small dimensions is another similar point, but that would be pushing it too much and generalizing all the MP3 players.

Instead of the rectangular shape that 2G iPods have, the Memorex MMP8551 has a circular shape, with the play button located right on the middle. I wonder what Memorex had in mind when deciding to only put 512MB of storage on this player, I guess they don’t want to sell many, or maybe the price will be very low in order to be accessible to more people.

  • Archos 705 PMP available on Europe

archos-705-pmp.jpgThe Archos 705 portable media player was first revealed a few months ago, in February, but the cool device has just been added to the European online Archos store. The price is quite modest, costing €400 which is close to $578. A bit pricey for a PMP? Taking in consideration its features, I’d say it isn’t that expensive.

The Archos 705, which is a follow up of the 704 model, has a much better interface when comparing to the previous version. The booting time is also better and only needs a few seconds in order to start it up.

Other improvements include an easier experience while browsing thanks to the virtual keyboard, a touchscreen which is suppose to have less smudges, therefore making the watching-video experience also better.

Sony%20ICD-UX70-voice.jpgSony has launched yet another product that I thought that people didn’t use much, a voice recorder. With codenames of ICD-UX70 and ICD-UX80, the Stereo IC Recorders will probably be useful for journalists or others that need to record plenty of audio content.

The only difference between each device is the storage capacity, with the small one being the UX70 that has 1GB of memory, and the big one being the UX80 that features 2GB of internal flash memory. In case you are wondering, both recorders can also be used as a MP3 player, but its strong point is certainly being a digital voice recorder, which in the end lets you record 518 hours of audio while using the 2GB model.

The design is the same as the preceding versions, and so is the screen settings. Both players come with a FM tuner and FM transmitter, which is something that iPods should already have. The Toshiba Gigabeat U205 has a canal type headphone included, an uncommon detail on this kind of players.

  • yahee-YHM-MPE02-pmp.jpgIt is kind of usual to see Chinese companies copying the design of other popular devices, I can’t even remember the amount of iPod ripoffs that I’ve seen, but trust me, there are plenty of those. The latest company to join the “rip-off design” group is Yahee Technologies, and their new portable media player codenamed YHM-MPE02. In case you didn’t notice, the player is very similar to the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic, it has the buttons in the same place with the same functions, and the overall design is very similar to the mobile phone.
