Hot news for the two giants of the US that fight for a bigger share on the mobile telecommunications market, and I’m talking about AT&T and Verizon.

In this case it was AT&T that sued Verizon and the reason is pretty simple: a misleading advertising campaign, which is named “There’s a Map for that” and is actually a joke related to an AT&T campaign called “There’s an App for That”.

The misleading information is related to a map made by Verizon, in which shows that AT&T doesn’t have much network coverage. But the only detail they forgot to mention, is that they are only counting the 3G network and not EDGE network, and that’s why the AT&T map is full of blank spaces, which could lead to customers having bad ideas…

As expected, the adoption of touchscreen mobile phones in the US is growing pretty fast. According to comScore at the moment there are 24 million touchscreen phones, which makes it close to a 150% growth rate when comparing to 2008.
In case you are wondering, the number one of the top 10 list of touchscreen devices is obviously the iPhone, which has 32,9% of the “share”. In second and third place we’ve got LG models, more specifically the Dare and the Voyager. As for the fourth place, it’s the BlackBerry Storm with 7,0%, and the next in the list is the Palm Treo with 6,5%.

Donovan, from comScore, comments:

The iPhone clearly set the trend in the industry for touchscreen devices, so it’s no surprise that it has the largest share of the market,” added Donovan. “But as other players have entered the touchscreen market with compelling devices, competition is clearly heating up.

Now, it’s not everyday you see parts from an unannounced device go on sale but China Ontrade has what they are calling the iPhone 4 Generation Midboard.

Normally you could be quick to brush off such a seemingly obvious rumor but according to Gizmodo, China Ontrade had parts that on sale that were then used in the iPhone 3GS.

So, could this possibly be real? We’ll have to wait and find out.

The Nook is Barnes & Noble’s first eBook ready and it has already impressed us. But it looks like there’s something fishy about the whole thing. Spring Design alleges that the Nook design was stolen from the Alex. Spring Design has shown the Alex dual-screen eBook reader to Barnes & Noble before the Nook has been developed and it looks like the two companies have worked together for a while. We’re not jumping to any conclusions yet as it’s not our place to do that.

Spring Design has filed a trade secret lawsuit against Barnes & Noble and we’re curious to see what happens next. Eric Kmiec, Spring Design Vice President of Sales and Marketing has this to say about the whole issue:

Spring Design unfortunately had to take the appropriate action to protect its intellectual property rights. We showed the Alex e-book design to Barnes & Noble in good faith with the intention of working together to provide a superior dual screen e-book to the market.

What will you choose between the Alex and the Nook?

When will we see cell phones capable of delivering WiFi N speeds? It might be a lot sooner than you think actually. It looks like Atheros has developed a new AR6003 chip capable of bringing 802.11n WiFi connectivity to portable devices. The chip will deliver speeds of up to 85Mbps via the 5GHz band and it will be very energy efficient. In fact the new chip will use 20% less energy than the current AR6002 WiFi chip which is great news for smarpthone users. One of the main issues with WiFi N chips is that they consume a lot of energy.

The product is currently being tested by various companies and we might see it arrive on future smartphones and other portable devices really soon.

It’s no secret that the iPhone doesn’t support Flash and most likely won’t until Apple decides to lift the restriction. However, some people evidently have been thinking it was Adobe’s fault that there is no Flash on the iPhone, as you can see from the above picture.

Of course, Adobe isn’t exactly getting angry at Apple but they are telling consumers exactly what they need to know; Flash won’t be on the iPhone until Apple says it can.

It looks like the New York State has officially banned texting and driving. From now on you should definitely stop sending SMS messages while driving. If you happen to get caught you will pay a fine up to $150. Next time you text and drive in New York you’d better ask yourself if it’s worth doing it. Not because there is a fine but because texting and driving is actually more dangerous than driving under the influence. Other states have similar laws in place and we can assume that more will follow so start getting used to stopping the car if you absolutely need to answer some of those incoming messages.

BlackBerry owners will be happy to hear that RIM is interested to hire a “WebKit Developer.” That means the Canadian company is considering developing a totally new mobile browser. It’s actually not a secret anymore as RIM did purchase Torch Mobile a while ago, which happens to be the company that created the WebKit-based Iris browser. Apparently that’s not enough and RIM needs a more qualified WebKit developer to help out with the cause. A new browser for the BlackBerry OS will definitely be a blessing so if you happen to have the needed skills then go ahead and apply for the job! We’ve been waiting for a new mobile Internet browser for BlackBerry smartphones for too long now.
