These five countries: Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Estonia, will get the iPhone in the second launch wave on August 22nd. There aren’t specific details about pricing and plans yet but we do have a few info on each of them.

In Romania Orange will release the iPhone 3G. People can register for it starting August 7th. It’s not a pre-order as there won’t by any payment involved but rather a phone reservation. The iPhone 3G will sell simultaneously in six cities around the country.

In Hungary, T-Mobile will bring the iPhone 3G exclusively but there are no further details at this point.

In Czech Republic O2 is the official carrier which will offer the iPhone 3G to its subscribers and business clients. Those interested in Apple’s handset can register with O2 and they will receive prices and more details later on.

In Estonia TeliaSonera and EMT are the carriers bringing the iPhone 3G while in Poland Orange and Era will offer the handset to their Polish subscribers.

We have 16 more days to count down until the second iPhone 3G wave hits.

  • While we’re anxiously waiting for Apple to unveil their new generation of laptops and iPods later in September, Apple has launched some of those patents for new products. And there are six Apple patents revealed today. They show an iPod/iPhone stand, an amplification system, a form of speech synthesis and a computing device which I’ll refer to as a MacBook tablet for now.

Besides that there’s a new earbud/lanyard design and a new backlighting scheme mentioned. Some of those patents apply to already existing products while others offer a preview to what’s coming.

Personally I am interested in the computing device for now, as it might just be the hottest thing the year brings.

IKEA to Make Cell Phones Now

Everyone should already be familiar with IKEA and their way of thinking outside the box when it comes to furniture. Some of their products are so popular due to their innovative design and cheap pricing. For whatever reason they are going to manufacture cell phones now. We don’t see Apple going into the furniture business right? Not that they couldn’t do that.

    Mapple Phone Anyone?

Well here we are talking about iPhones and Omnias and all sorts of Motorola when this Mapple Phone slides in. It’s a totally eco-friendly concept right here. The phone is made out of thin wooden film which has backlighting and touch sensitive buttons. It was time someone built something like this.

The Mapple phone is a slider phone, only that the whole sliding is a little different. When you do slide it an LCD appears. That’s rather weird as usually the keys are hidden.

We’re probably looking at an entry level Mapple phone here but I am sure the day will come when smartphones will be similarly built.

Sanjay Kapoor, President of Bharti Airtel mobile services, said:

iPhone has been an iconic technological revelation of this year and Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector.

Vodafone is the second carrier to bring the iPhone 3G in India but they will do it later this year. What we lack so far is official pricing and plans which Airtel’s officials are yet to announce.

  • Samsung Omnia Comes in White too?

We’ve analyzed Samsung’s Omnia smartphone before and we have announced various specs, features, release dates and prices. Apparently there’s something new about the Omnia too. It’s now available in white. I think I remember a recent smartphone that sold in two different colors, but if I recall correctly the two colors were supposed to have different meanings. The white symbolized 16GB of memory while the black symbolized 8GB of memory available.

So what did Samsung change in the white Omnia version? Apparently nothing yet. Just the color!

We’ve seen a mechanical iPhone 3G SIM unlock the other day. After ordering one SIM you would be placing it between your iPhone and your carrier’s SIM and everything would work out.

Well Brando has something really similar. The iSmartphone unlocks your iPhone 3G as well as other mobiles. Simply place it in the same soft and change the design of your carrier’s card with some scissors. The iSmartphone is available for just $20.50 and will ship worldwide. Tell us how it works if you’ve got one already!

    Motorola Alexander in Pictures

Motorola Alexander might just be the handset we’ve all been waiting for. And by all I mean all 16 Motorola cell phone lovers out there. Besides the fact that it looks weird and all, the Alexander will hopefully get a Windows Mobile 6.1, a NVIDIA graphics card and a possible 8 megapixel camera. There’s also A-GPS and 3G connectivity.

No price and no official release date. Probably a Q4 launch date, but we’re yet to confirm it.

  • iPhone Solar Charging Case

Here’s a case I’d actually wrap around my iPhone 3G. It’s not like the daily protective yet stylish and crazy colored case we get to see. It’s a Solar Charging Case, an alternative to Mophie.

Besides preventing your iPhone to suffer from unwanted accidents, the Solar Charging Case has a built-in solar panel which will convert sun’s energy and store it in a 1,500mAh battery which will give your iPhone battery a full charge. It takes about 3 hours to charge and it’s advisable to take your iPhone out of the case during the process.

The case will set you back $54 but it certainly is worth it.

Japan’s Softbank is going to reduce monthly fees for the iPhone 3G in order to attract more customers. Softbank is willing to drop prices from 7,280 yen or $67 per month down to 2,990 yen or $27. That’s quite a price cut wouldn’t you say? I certainly hope that other carriers are watching this move.

The price cut will come from a reduced price of the data rate and it will certainly draw even more attention to the iPhone in Japan. More people should switch to the iPhone with this new low price offer.

Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone 3G

How’s your iPhone 3G working? Any cracks in the case lately? How’s the battery life? Is it good for you? Mophie juice pack can’t do that much about eventual case cracks but the battery pack itself will certainly suit your needs.

Mophoe costs $99 but it’s a must have especially if you’re always on the go. It will get you 350 hours of stand by time, 6 hours of 3G talk time, 12 hours of 2G talk time, 6 hours of 3G internet, 8 hours of video playback and 28 hours of audio playback. The LEDs on the back will tell you how much battery life it’s left.

Ok then, so I need two of those. It works on your iPod touch too!

If we had a mobile gadget of the day post, well this robot and its abilities to tell the time correctly will certainly be today’s mobile gadget of the day. It’s certainly a gadget, and from what you’ve just seen, it’s certainly mobile. I’d be laughing all day, calling it various names while it would slowly tell me the time.

Norris Labs Stonehenge is a clock that simple rearranges tiles to tell the time correctly. The robot has a CrustCrawler Smart Arm and a Parallax Propeller chip.
I wonder where the snooze button is It’s a clock therefore it must have some kind of alarm! And isn’t it rather noisy?

  • August 22nd is the day when 20 more countries will receive the iPhone 3G. Apple is doing the best they can to increase iPhone production and thus to avoid future shortages. I don’t think they will be able to do it but it’s good to know they are trying. Foxconn, their manufacturer has production way up. At current speed they are producing no less than 800,000 iPhones 3G per week. This is above full capacity so we might expect possible failures in the future.

  • Our guests today are Sony Ericsson and Zeemote. You know of course what Sony Ericsson does for a living, but you might not recognize Zeemote. Zeemote is a manufacturer of wireless controllers for mobile devices. Therefore the two companies signed a partnership to bring near-console game play to Sony Ericsson’s W760i. Sony Ericsson is going to launch Zeemote JS1 controller with Bluetooth technology in an exclusive promotion in Netherlands.

With Apple’s iPhone redefining wireless gaming, it’s no surprise Sony Ericsson wants to stay in the gaming game. From August 8th to October 31st, if you happen to be in the Netherlands you will get the Zeemote JS1 controller for free with any purchase of the W760i Walkman via a mail-in voucher promotion. The W760i comes bundled with two Zeemote Ready games with fourteen waiting to be downloaded.

The Zeemote JS1 controller will have a thumbstick and four buttons which are customizable. After connecting via Bluetooth, the JS1 will certainly improve gaming experience. I’d certainly want a piece of that action. It could be really fun.
