Back in January we showed you the extended battery for the HTC HD2 that included a stand for media viewing. At the time, all we had for you was a render of the battery but now we have an actual picture for you, included above. Luckily, that’s not the exciting news. The exciting news is that CoolSmartPhone lets us know that the device will be around $55 as opposed to the previously announced $85.
But, with a lower price point comes a 1 month delay which means you can now expect the extended battery in March.

Those anxiously awaiting news regarding a Dell Mini 5 US release will be happy to hear that the device has made its way through the FCC which means it’s growing nearer. Additionally, it was noted that the device was sporting an AT&T 3G chip (HSPA on WCDMA band II and V) which pretty much confirms it will be hitting the carrier.
Unfortunately there was no mention of a release date but the community hints at a release later this year.

Considering the App Store is being absolutely flooded with downloads, it is the perfect opportunity to get some advertisements out there. And, considering the fact that it has built in GPS, it’s the perfect opportunity for advertisement providers to provide some incredibly targeted ads.
Well, it seems that if app developers are using Core Location just to provide targeted ads, Apple is going to reject the app and ask them to remove the call. This is quite unfortunate for developers looking to monetize their apps further and probably out of the blue considering users can actually reject the invitation to let the app use their location.

As Apple slowly but surely loosens the reigns on what can and can’t go into App Store, more and more apps are showing some promising and incredibly useful features that were previously not allowed. The latest of such apps is SlingPlayer which you might already know has been available in the App Store for some time now. However, while previously available, it only allowed you to stream content over WiFi which made it virtually useless unless you were in a wireless hotspot.
Today, it was announced that AT&T has given the app developers the go ahead to allow for streaming over 3G. Unfortunately, the new version of the app still needs to get Apple’s approval so there’s not telling on when the update may actually hit.

Here’s quite the marketing stunt — If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that not long after Google announced their free turn-by-turn navigation software, Nokia cut the price of their own GPS software, Ovi Maps, making it completely free.
Well, to market the software’s new non existent price, they have hoisted a giant arrow high above the Thames River in London. Now this may not seem very cool but the magic begins when you realize that you can actually text the sign with coordinates and a message and it will display said message and swing around to point to the supplied coordinates.
We’re not sure how accurate the sign’s pointing actually is but this is a very creative marketing tactic nonetheless. Check it out in the above video.

I’m not certain why Stephen Colbert was the presenter of the Song of the Year at the Grammys, because he has very little to do with the music industry. What he did at the 2009 Grammy Awards was funny, but it definitely crosses the line into shameless plug for Apple.
Go ahead and watch the video to see this for yourself as the nominee list is read off an iPad. Just to answer Stephen’s question, no, the iPad doesn’t make you look cool. I also can’t help but agree with my source as Stephen must have had that jacket tailor-made to hold Apple’s latest fad.

The iPhone and the newly announced iPad are beautiful devices but they are missing some very key features, namely video conference calling and the ability to download files. Luckily, Engadget has done a bit of digging in the recently released iPhone OS 3.2 SDK and have uncovered some interesting information.
In fact, if their investigation is deemed correct, there are traces of video calling and file downloading buried within the SDK.
Unfortunately this is far from confirmed but at least it’s a ray of hope. Now all we need is some multitasking and iPhone haters will have even less to complain about.

Earlier this week Apple showed us the highly anticipated iPad which sported a revamped iPhone OS. While the changes to the UI itself are somewhat subtle, they look pretty damn cool and now you can give it a spin yourself. No, you’re not going to be able to get the iPad ahead of its release date but if you have a jailbroken iPhone you can pull a few strings and outfit the your own device with the iPad UI.
Just follow the instructions in the above video and before you know it you will be able to experience what is soon to come. Sort of.

While consumers would barely be interested in the manufacturing cost of devices, the recently launched Apple iPad was said to cost $270.50 to make. This was shared by a bills of materials analyst, Brian Marshall, of Broadpoint AmTech. If this is true then you can see how much profit Apple is getting from this device, about $228.50.
The bulk of the cost was traced to its 9.7” LCD display. Of the $270.50 cost, $100 goes to the display while the others were attributed to the A4 chip and warranties. So assuming that the iPad does follow the footsteps of the famed iPhone, you can imagine how much Apple is making huh?

Just about a week ago we got what was said to be the first in-the-flesh shot of the BlackBerry Magnum. Now, the guys over at TheCellularGuru have been nice enough to put up an hands of video with a prototype Magnum that they happened to get their hands on.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to actual function but it gives us a nice idea of what the device looks like when compared to the BlackBerry 9000 and 9700.
If you aren’t aware, the Magnum is essentially a mash-up of the BlackBerry Bold and the Storm in the sense that it features both a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display.

Well, after years of waiting, Apple has finally come forth and revealed their tablet which they will officially be calling the iPad. This device will feature a 1GHz Apple developed A4 chip and a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display. Hard drive space will come in 16, 32 and 64GB sizes. Other specs include a 30-pin connector, speaker, microphone, Bluetooth and WiFi. 802.11n to be exact.
Software wise it looks to be sporting a modified iPhone OS and will in fact run iPhone applications. There are two methods of running these applications, either full screen or in a window.
Text input will be handled with a onscreen software keyboard, if you couldn’t have guessed that.
Oh yeah, did I mention it gets 10 hours of battery life?

Wait a minute, a free Palm Pre at Bell? Nah, it’s “free”, but only “free” with a 3-year subscription plan, which costs at least $50 Canadian Dollars. That’s 1,800 for three years, which translates into $1,700 USD. Not the best deal in town, that’s for sure.

Other than the plethora of rumors surrounding their device there has been no real, concrete evidence to support the fact that Apple is even working on a Tablet. Lucky for us, mobile application analytical firm Flurry has jut released reports that suggest the Tablet is in fact in existence. They came to this conclusion when they noticed about 50 new Tablet like devices running iPhone OS 3.2 testing out a wide array of different applications.
Of course, Engadget notes that there is a chance Flurry is just noticing an updated iPhone running apps that support a higher resolution so it looks like we’ll still be stuck waiting until the 27th to see if the Tablet exists. However, if these charts are to be believed the fact that there is a large number of games being tested could possibly mean that the Tablet will have a large focus on games.

Now there is a reason to pay fees for the coming Game Developers Conference this March. Early Bird attendees who will sign up for the Mobile / Handheld Summit, the iPhone Summit, or the Independent Games Summit will be ably rewarded by being given the choice of either a Motorola Droid or an HTC Google Nexus One for free.
Now that seems cool eh? But the thing is, among the events, why the iPhone Summit? Well as long as you are getting a free phone, who cares!

Despite Google detailing their intentions to delay the launch of several Android powered handsets in China, one company is going ahead and releasing a device anyways. What company is that, you ask? Lenovo, of course.
But wait, Lenovo is a handset manufacturer? Yup, the popular laptop manufacturer is dipping their feet in the cellphone market with their LePhone. No, that isn’t a joke and Lenovo plans to launch said device on China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom in May.
