Here’s a pleasant surprise from Microsoft! It seems that Windows Mobile 7.0 is getting ready for beta. Here’s what the LinkedIn profile of a Chinese Senior Engineer at Motorola says:

3. Joining Caesar product development, lead a team to do telephony feature and other applications development. Migrated relative applications from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows Mobile 7

Language: C++
Tools: VS2008, AKU, Platform Builder
Runtime Environment: Windows Mobile 7.0 (Beta)

Does this mean that Windows Mobile is going to be available sometime in April 2010. If all this is true you might want to simply skip Windows Mobile 6.5 phones and wait for the real thing. In the mean time there are plenty of alternatives for you to choose from if you really need a new smartphone.

September 15 is the day when the Zune HD will be finally available but it also happen to be the day when Microsoft will have a Zune software update for everyone else. The new software, possibly the Zune 4.0, will bring you plenty of new features but you’ll have to wait two more weeks to get it. In the mean time it will be interesting to see how the new iPods coming on September 9 will affect Zune HD orders in the following months. What’s your next MP3 player going to be? A Zune or an iPod?

Well here’s some ridiculously vague information — It was recently made known that LG is gearing up to launch 3 unannounced, unspecced, uneverything’d Windows Mobile powered handsets sometime in the near future. It’s not official, but I think it’s safe to say all 3 of these devices will powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.

Furthermore, LG has plans to launch an additional 10 Windows Mobile powered handsets by the end of 2010. Unfortunately, right now, this is all we have to go by but considering the scale of this hardware lineup information is sure to leak sooner or later.

Update: It was actually announced that one of the first three handsets will be the full QWERTY keyboard touting GW550.

It seems that HTC is gearing up to launch their Touch2 (not to be confused with the Touch Pro2) handset on October 6th of this year.

We haven’t heard much about this phone but it’s said to run Windows Mobile 6.5 with the TouchFLO UI, feature a touchscreen,  a re imagined Internet Explorer Mobile, Microsoft Exchange Support and a new service from HTC called My Phone which will let users sync contacts, text messages, photos and more via the web for free.

There’s absolutely no word on what market the Touch2 will land in first but it’s coming, and soon.

This was bound to happen sooner or later but we’re glad it happened now. AT&T will offer free access to its WiFi hotspots network to all Windows Mobile phones owners. That means you’ll be able to walk in a Starbucks coffee shop with a Windows Phone in your hand and check your mail or browse the Internet while you offer yourself a tasty treat.

AT&T has announced that September 14 is going to be the day when all Windows Mobile phone owners will be able to start enjoying those hotspots. The only thing AT&T asks of you is that you get an unlimited data plan or other qualifying data plan in order to take advantage of that free hotspots.

Besides Windows Mobile phones, iPhones and BlackBerry handsets already have access to AT&T’s hotspot network. Who’s going to be next?

The moment you have been waiting for is approaching fast. In a little over a month Windows Mobile 6.5 phones will be available. Microsoft has announced that Windows Phones (remember we won’t be calling them WM 6.5 phones?) will be available starting with October 6.

And here’s the official list of carriers and manufacturers that are going to offer Windows Phones to their subscribers:

  • In North America: Mobile operators AT&T, Bell Mobility, Sprint, TELUS and Verizon Wireless, and phone manufacturers HP, HTC Corp., LG Electronics, Samsung and Toshiba Corp.
  • In Europe: Mobile operators Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG and Vodafone Group Plc, and phone manufacturers Acer, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba
  • In Latin America: Mobile operator TIM Brazil, and phone manufacturers HTC, LG Electronics and Samsung
  • In Asia Pacific: Mobile operators NTT DoCoMo Inc., SoftBank Mobile Corp., SK Telecom, Telstra and WILLCOM Inc., and phone manufacturers Acer Inc., HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba

What do you say? Are you really that anxious to get yourself a brand new Windows Phone?

Apple hasn’t made fun enough of Microsoft so it has decided to launch a new “I’m a Mac” ad. This time joining the crew is Robert Loggia and he’s playing the part of the trainer that’s supposed to get PC back into shape. Not that he’s doing a great job motivating PC to be better than Mac!

We’ve seen a couple of recent Apple commercials earlier this week and while they were funnier than this one, I still have the feeling Apple has started to overdo it. Overall the new ads are nowhere near as hilarious and original as their predecessors used to be. Maybe Apple should try new things for a change!

Don’t you just wish sometimes that Microsoft could come up with a witty comeback? What do you say Microsoft? Ready for some kick-ass answer for Apple? And I don’t mean new Laptop Hunters ads!

We have some good news for future Zune HD owners! According to this pamphlet right here, the Zune Marketplace will be filled with music, HD movies, TV shows and podcasts. The pamphlet has been handed out at Best Buy’s Zune HD showings so it’s as official as it can get. We were kind of expecting HD movies availability from the Marketplace anyway. What else would you need a Zune HD for?

Is This the Zune HD Box?

Are you waiting for Microsoft to start selling the Zune HD? Well I don’t know if this will help but it looks like the official Zune HD box has been spotted in the wild. The new hot player was a no show at both Best Buy locations in the Houston-area but it looks like someone got a hold of the Zune HD. The box looks pretty real and there’s no blurriness involved in this pic. But we’ve seen lots of leaked images so far which were proved to be fake so we will not jump to any conclusions just yet!

Microsoft is moving pretty fast with its stores and it looks like the company is looking for personnel for its first two stores. So if you’re good with Microsoft gadgets and you have enough patience to explain in laymen terms why Windows still comes up with blue screens of death then you might be the perfect person for the job. And any of you future Microsoft Geniuses will have to be able to relocate to Scottsdale, Arizona or Mission Viejo, California if you do get hired. Or you could always wait for Microsoft to expand to your area and try your luck with Apple store in the mean time.

The phone in the pictures here is an impressive concept. It’s a Window Phone but it has nothing to do with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS just yet. The phone has a spectacular appearance. It looks like a piece of glass and it can transform itself exactly like a window would change its appearance according to the weather outside.

The phone should be made out of transparent plastic and it would change its looks to fit the weather outside. The sheet of paper should be clear during a sunny day and it will become humid during rain and dump during a winter day. The best part of it is that the user can write SMS messages and draw pictures on the virtual window.

This phone concept is by far one of the most interesting I’ve seen in a long while, too bad I won’t be able to play with one very soon.

Recent reports have suggested that Microsoft is planning to debut their updated mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 7, on devices starting in Q4 2010. But don’t think we can wash our hands clear of Windows Mobile 6.5 yet as the same reports say that Microsoft will support the two operating systems simultaneously.

This, in turn, will help Microsoft compete with the iPhone and Android operating system as they will have the higher end Windows Mobile 7 on the market alongside the cheaper Windows Mobile 6.5. Will it work? Only time will tell.

Included above is a video demonstration of HTC’s unreleased TouchFlo 3D 2.6 Windows Mobile UI that is destined for a debut on the HTC Leo.

As you can see, the UI bares a slight resemblance to HTC’s Sense Android UI found on devices such as the HTC Hero in the sense that it’s beautiful, practical and fine to use with your fingers. Those worrying about your TouchFlo 3D touting devices not being able to support this new UI need not worry as the update is to be mostly aesthetic.

With the rise of YouTube (and the like) comes the need for advancements in webcam technology. What you see above is Microsoft’s latest webcam offering, the LifeCam Cinema HD.

This USB 2.0 capable device is capable of 720p video capture at 30 fps in addition to auto focus, 4x digital zoom and a noise canceling microphone. There’s also a bundled technology which Microsoft calls ClearFrame which is supposedly meant to provide users with a ’smooth, detailed video’ whatever that means.

As for a price and release date, the LifeCam Cinema HD is slated for a September 9th release at $79.99.

NVIDIA has today issued a press release showing off the fact that their all new “ultra-lower-power HD” Tegra processor will provide the muscle in Microsoft’s forthcoming Zune HD.

Below is a list of reasons why NVIDIA thinks the Tegra will help the Zune HD reign supreme:

  • an HD video processor dedicated to HD video, providing unprecedented picture quality and ultra-smooth, vivid movie playback with low power consumption
  • an ultra-low power graphics processor for a compelling and intuitive user interface
  • NVIDIA nPower™ technology, which optimizes system power use and enables extended HD video and MP3 playback time

Will HD quality help the Zune HD oust Apple’s iPod touch? We’ll have to wait until the device’s September 15th release date to find out.

Samsung has today released the full list of countries that will be getting the Omnia II at some point this month including France, the UK, Germany and Australia. However, the United States failed to make the cut, what gives?

Considering the device was slated for an August 23rd Best Buy release a few days ago we can only point towards some sort of problematic delay as the cause.

Hit the read link for the full list of countries that will be getting Samsung’s Windows Mobile powered Omnia II this month.

Earlier this week we showed you what was supposedly a leaked Zune HD Best Buy display stand that said the device would be hitting store shelves on September 18th of this year. That was only added to the fact that Amazon.com had Zune HD up for pre-order the same day giving us a hint at the device’s price.

Well today, Microsoft soft has come clean and let us know that the Zune HD will in fact be hitting retailers on September 18th in 16GB and 32GB models for $219.99 and $289.99 respectively.

What’s more is, not only has Amazon re-listed the device for pre-order but Microsoft, Best Buy and Walmart have done the same.

Microsoft seems really busy lately! The company is working on its Zune platform, getting ready to sell Windows 7, building Microsoft Stores and forming alliances with rival Nokia. So why shouldn’t it also prepare to launch Xbox Live on mobile phones?

It looks like Microsoft is looking for a LIVE Community Director, so if you got the skills to do it you should definitely apply. Your job will be to manage “LIVE community strategy and execution across a range of properties, from Xbox LIVE to Windows Mobile.” Well now that’s more than interesting! Are just witnessing the Live Anywhere concept?

And in case Microsoft hired you after you read our post, then by all means, leak some hot stuff our way!
