Rumors surfaced yesterday that we would possibly be seeing the HTC Leo appear on O2 UK as the HTC HD2. Well, it seems part of those rumors are to be believed as Engadget has recently gotten their hands on the above photograph that shows that the handset will in fact be dropping on the carrier.
What’s even more interesting is that if you sign up for the correct 18-month contract you will be given the HTC Leo for free. Now all we need to do is hear of a North American carrier that will pick up the device as it is every Windows Mobile fanboy’s dream (if such a person exists).

We’ve heard a lot about Microsoft’s retail locations but what we haven’t heard is a Windows 7 cafe right smack in the middle of Paris. Lucky for those of you who happen to love Windows and cafes, it was recently announced that on October 22nd Microsoft will be opening just that, a Windows 7 cafe on 47 Boulevard Sebastopol in Paris.
Of course, if you want to get down on the coffee, pastries, Xbox and Windows action, you better do so soon after October 22nd as it will only be open for a few weeks after

Is it just me or has Microsoft started to look better and better all of a sudden? Let’s forget for a second about the countless times we hated and cursed various Windows versions and think about some products made by Redmond that we really like. Obviously there’s the Xbox 360 and its upcoming upgrade called Project Natal, there’s the Zune HD and the recently unveiled Courier tablet concept and the list will not stop there. Apparently the Project Pink we’ve talked about yesterday is being developed at full throttle. This Microsoft initiative that will bring the first Microsoft phones to the public has produced two phones so far, which could become quite popular in various markets.

Even the most faithful Apple fan should be interested in these renderings of the Microsoft Courier Tablet concept. The tablet has been leaked and it looks just great. At this point we’re curious to see what tablet is Apple going to launch but if what we see in these pictures here will come true then Cupertino should expect a fierce fight from Microsoft in this new tablet market.
Getting back to the Curier we can’t but notice the generous display made by two 7-inch hinged multitouch display. You can interact with the screens by using your fingers or a stylus and you can use both screens at once as the user interface permits various movements and actions from screen to screen. We don’t have all the specs but so far we know the Courier comes with a home button on the hinge, status LEDs on one side and an impressive 3 megapixel camera with flash and 4x digital zoom. Can Apple top all of that?

Currently, Google Sync is only able to keep your Calender and Contacts updated, effectively leaving Gmail in the dark. Luckily, it was recently announced that the service will now allow for Gmail syncing as well, if you have an iPhone or Windows Mobile handset, that is.

Remember Microsoft’s Pink project? Well it looks like the folks at Redmond are working hard on future Microsoft phones. Although Steve Ballmer did say a number of times that Microsoft will not launch its own phone line, it looks like those were just words said in order to keep everyone else that’s making Windows Mobile phones happy.
Nothing is confirmed just yet but it looks like a couple of Pink phones have been leaked, the Turtle and the Pure. The phones should be presented in a few months at CES 2010 but Microsoft will not launch them until later when Windows Mobile 7 will be ready to dazzle the masses.
And I hope you’re sitting down for this one, as there’s one more rumor that seems a lot hotter. It looks like Microsoft is preparing a response to Apple’s first tablet. Microsoft will create its own tablet. Will the gadget be revealed at CES 2010? Will we see Microsoft launch it before Apple does? Nothing’s certain so far but the future Microsoft tablet will be based on Microsoft’s Surface technology.

The Zune HD has come and it has conquered. Although launched after Apple’s iPod-related media event, the Zune HD quickly became a best seller. It looks like all the major players have run out of Zune HD players for now. At Amazon you’ll have to wait for up to two months to get a 16GB model while a 32GB will be available in up to three weeks. Best Buy has the Zune HD as “backordered” while New Egg has sold out all its available Zune HD. So what do you say Microsoft? How many Zune HD have you sold so far? Did the fact that the iPod touch 3G lacks a camera increase the Zune HD sales? We’ll know more in the near future when we’ll probably be able to compare actual sales figures for both the Zune HD and the iPod touch 3G.

Here’s one more WM6.5 device pegged for a release this Oct 6th. The ultrapowerful Acer F1 will be making its debut on the same day as many other Windows phones, but it remains to be seen if its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU coupled with a 3.8-inch 480×800 touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, and HSDPA support will set it a notch above the others. And all that goodness at just $480 may sound too good to be true, but it’s true, says PocketPCThoughts. So did we help in driving the $1010 X2 out of your mind already?

Windows Mobile 6.5 devices are slated to hit store shelves early next month and it seems that Samsung’s next-gen OmniaPRO will be their debut WinMo 6.5 device. However, this does not mean previous generation Omnias, namely the OmniaPRO B7610, B7320 and Omnia II, in addition to soon to be released OmniaLite, will be left in the dust.
All of the above mentioned phones will in fact be getting their operating systems updated to Windows Mobile 6.5 when the OmniaPRO B7330 hits store shelves early next month.

It’s been a while since we heard of ITG’s xpPhone in fact, the last we heard of it was back at Computex. Well, the device seems to have graduated from the drawing board and is now dangerously close to hitting Vodafone, Orange and AT&T.
As you can see, the device packs quite a punch with its 4.8-inch touchscreen display, video conferencing and 3G compatibility. One major thing to make note of is the fact that its primary operating system is Microsoft’s beloved Windows XP.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) ITG has yet to mention a price so when you actually go to pre-order the xpPhone, you won’t have to pay anything.

Ever wondered what an iPhone-like capacitive touchscreen would look like when coupled with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor? Well, now you can as PocketPT has recently put up a video showcasing the HTC Leo’s touchscreen capabilities which we’ve included for your viewing pleasure above.
While we don’t know exactly when the HTC Leo will be made available for purchase, its 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen, 5MP camera and 1GHz processor will definitely make it a more than viable competitor.

While we’ve seen specs and renders of the HTC Leo leak out we have yet to see the device in the flesh. Luckily, the Internet has gotten its hands on an actual pre production device and boy does it look pretty.
The HTC Leo is said to feature a 4.3 inch touch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. As you can see, it’s also running a version of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5.
Too bad we still don’t a solid release date for this device but, as always, we’ll keep you posted.

If you can’t wait to get your Zune HD but you’re not going to be in the USA next week than you can already forget about it. The PMP won’t be available anywhere outside the States for now. Not even Canada.
Here’s what Microsoft had to say about the Zune HD sales:
For the time being the Zune HD device will remain US only. Right now we are focused on deploying an exciting service in the form of Zune Video to 18 markets. We are looking at potential future hardware experiences for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now.
So what do you think, did this strategy manage to scare Apple? Considering that Apple has sold over 225 million iPods already and the number is going to grow in the near future maybe Microsoft should revise its sales policy and expand to other foreign markets too.

Let’s put Apple’s special music behind us for a second and remember that Microsoft’s newest PMP, the Zune HD is about to get launched. And just in case you think you’re ready to try out something different than an iPod then you should know that Amazon is going to deliver the Zune HD right on launch day. You can order your Zune HD today and you’ll have it delivered to your door right on September 15. Does that sound like a good plan or are you on your way to an Apple store?

I am sure by now you know that Windows Mobile 6.5 will be officially unveiled on October 6. What does that mean for your current Windows Mobile phone? Well in case you own or you’re planning to get a Touch Pro2, Diamond2 or Snap, all made by HTC, then you should know these phones are going to be eligible for Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrades.
Lars Christian Weisswange, Regional Director for HTC Germany, Austria and Switzerland has confirmed that the upgrades will be free of charge and you’ll also get the latest version of TouchFLO 3D when you complete your upgrade. Anyone truly excited about Windows Mobile 6.5 phones?

Here’s a pleasant surprise from Microsoft! It seems that Windows Mobile 7.0 is getting ready for beta. Here’s what the LinkedIn profile of a Chinese Senior Engineer at Motorola says:
3. Joining Caesar product development, lead a team to do telephony feature and other applications development. Migrated relative applications from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows Mobile 7
Language: C++
Tools: VS2008, AKU, Platform Builder
Runtime Environment: Windows Mobile 7.0 (Beta)
Does this mean that Windows Mobile is going to be available sometime in April 2010. If all this is true you might want to simply skip Windows Mobile 6.5 phones and wait for the real thing. In the mean time there are plenty of alternatives for you to choose from if you really need a new smartphone.

September 15 is the day when the Zune HD will be finally available but it also happen to be the day when Microsoft will have a Zune software update for everyone else. The new software, possibly the Zune 4.0, will bring you plenty of new features but you’ll have to wait two more weeks to get it. In the mean time it will be interesting to see how the new iPods coming on September 9 will affect Zune HD orders in the following months. What’s your next MP3 player going to be? A Zune or an iPod?

Well here’s some ridiculously vague information — It was recently made known that LG is gearing up to launch 3 unannounced, unspecced, uneverything’d Windows Mobile powered handsets sometime in the near future. It’s not official, but I think it’s safe to say all 3 of these devices will powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.
Furthermore, LG has plans to launch an additional 10 Windows Mobile powered handsets by the end of 2010. Unfortunately, right now, this is all we have to go by but considering the scale of this hardware lineup information is sure to leak sooner or later.
Update: It was actually announced that one of the first three handsets will be the full QWERTY keyboard touting GW550.

It seems that HTC is gearing up to launch their Touch2 (not to be confused with the Touch Pro2) handset on October 6th of this year.
We haven’t heard much about this phone but it’s said to run Windows Mobile 6.5 with the TouchFLO UI, feature a touchscreen, a re imagined Internet Explorer Mobile, Microsoft Exchange Support and a new service from HTC called My Phone which will let users sync contacts, text messages, photos and more via the web for free.
There’s absolutely no word on what market the Touch2 will land in first but it’s coming, and soon.

This was bound to happen sooner or later but we’re glad it happened now. AT&T will offer free access to its WiFi hotspots network to all Windows Mobile phones owners. That means you’ll be able to walk in a Starbucks coffee shop with a Windows Phone in your hand and check your mail or browse the Internet while you offer yourself a tasty treat.
AT&T has announced that September 14 is going to be the day when all Windows Mobile phone owners will be able to start enjoying those hotspots. The only thing AT&T asks of you is that you get an unlimited data plan or other qualifying data plan in order to take advantage of that free hotspots.
Besides Windows Mobile phones, iPhones and BlackBerry handsets already have access to AT&T’s hotspot network. Who’s going to be next?
