Windows Mobile 6.5 has just been officially announced and Microsoft is already cooking up updates. We knew well ahead of the actual roll out that the new Microsoft mobile OS was not as impressive as people wished for it to be. After all, even Microsoft is looking forward to Windows Mobile 7, so why should we bother ourselves with Windows Mobile 6.5 in the mean time?
Windows Mobile 6.5 is not exactly a disappointment but it’s a mobile OS that needs more work. That’s why Microsoft has come up with Windows Mobile 6.5.1. The update isn’t official yet but you can find it on various forums already. The update is supposed to tweak the UI and make it more touch-friendly in order to improve your overall Windows Mobile 6.5 experience. In case your Windows Phone plays nice and you’re not having any problems dealing with menus or any other features of the user interface then maybe you don’t need this update after all. Microsoft is planning to launch Windows Mobile 6.5.1 in January 2010 only, which gives you plenty of time to discover any bugs that could use some sort of fixing.
So how do you find Windows Mobile 6.5 so far?

Although at some point it seemed that T-Mobile and Microsoft will not be able to recover that Sidekick lost data, the two companies figured out a way to recover stuff after all. The first thing to be fully restored is the contacts list of your phone. What you have to do is go to My T-Mobile webpage, download your contacts and restore them. While you’re at it you could also consider backing them up because who knows when this could happen again.
T-Mobile has provided detailed instructions on how to retrieve the lost contacts list so all you have to do is go ahead and get them. Before we declare Microsoft and Danger the heroes of the day we’ll have to also see everything else being brought back from the death and restored to your Sidekick phone.

You know what else happens on October 22? Microsoft’s Windows 7 is going to be officially unveiled. Therefore it makes sense to see Microsoft interested in opening at least one store on that very same date. The Scottsdale Arizona Microsoft Store is apparently ready to open doors on Thursday at 10AM. Are you excited? What if we told you that Microsoft will offer you gift bags and concert tickets if you’re one on the first 1,000 people to go through those doors?
The concert in question will take place at 5PM and Ashley Tisdale is the pop artist chosen to celebrate the Grand Opening. Can you resist all that action?

The worldwide economic crisis is not over yet so I am not surprised at all to see a family guy trying to sell Windows 7 for a living. But I am surprised to see the Family Guy selling Microsoft’s latest OS. Seth MacFarlane and Co will dedicate a full episode to Windows 7. The special feature will air on November 8 and it will be completely free of any commercials. Well the episode is a 30-minute long commercial itself but it might be funny.
Apple on the other hand will launch some new “Get a Mac” videos soon and they will take hit after hit after hit at Windows 7. But Windows 7 looks stable so far, so maybe Apple should consider cutting Microsoft some slack at least this once! What do you guys think?

Acer is finally ready to send the first Android netbook your way. The Aspire One D250 is available for Pre-order on Amazon and it will cost you $349 to get it. The netbook will offer you both Android and Windows XP under the hood so you’ll be able to choose which OS is better suited for your needs. Don’t hurry up to get it just yet as Acer is bound to unveil another version of the D250 capable of running Windows 7. The Windows 7 version will be announced at some point next week in Japan after Microsoft will finally launch its latest OS. It would be very interesting to see a netbook coming with both Windows 7 and Android on board but that might not happen anytime soon.

We heard a rumor a few days ago saying that Microsoft is considering not to launch Project Pink phones anymore. After all, Redmond’s officials have always said that Microsoft will not launch their own mobile phone yet! And now, a week after the whole Sidekick mess started, more rumors have surfaced regarding Project Pink’s imminent termination.

Take a gander at this new Windows Phone ad that has been going around. Yes, it is disturbing to see gigantic humanoid versions of apps in this poor guy’s home, and I’m certain that if I saw those, I would run from my home screaming. The last thing I would be doing is holding up my Windows enabled Mobile phone and have them jubilantly come with me.
Yes, it is disturbing and confusing. Many have pointed out that there really isn’t a Windows phone, but a phone that supports Windows. The fact that it has the HTC Pure label on it is adding a little more confusion to the mix.

Windows 7 is still about 2 weeks away from hitting store shelves but that hasn’t stopped an unnamed university bookstore from selling it early.
Above is a picture sent to Engadget by a lucky student who was able to pick up Microsoft’s latest operating system ahead of release.
As for the rest of us, we’ll still be stuck waiting until October 22nd.

Windows Mobile 6.5 has only just made its official debut on October 6th and already the internet is a buzz over the release date of Windows Mobile 7.
As you can see from the above leaked slide, Windows Mobile 7 is supposedly set for an RTM release date of spring 2010.
As always, this is just a rumor until Microsoft makes an official announcement.

Toshiba is planning to launch a bunch of new phones Windows Mobile 6.5 in the near future. After we’ve seen the TG01, one of the most interesting phones launched this year, we definitely want to see what new phones Toshiba will imagine next.
The K01 is supposed to be a QWERTY slider smartphone that will offer you a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1GHz processor and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
The K02 is a clamshell phone that will come with an internal 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen, a secondary, external LCD and a full QWERTY keyboard on the inside.
The L01 is more of a tablet-like device. It will come with a 7-inch touchscreen but there are not that many details about it. The L01 and K01 will be unveiled by the end of the year while the K02 will only be revealed sometime next year.

Microsoft has today released the above Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade guide letting users with Windows Mobile handsets know if they can or can’t upgrade their device.
As you can see, those with a Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 are outta’ luck as there will be no 6.5 upgrade for them. Those with a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone aren’t in a much better boat as only some devices with 6.1 will be able to get an upgrade.
So in conclusion, if you have a Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 cell phone you cannot upgrade to 6.5 and if you have a Windows Mobile 6.1 device you might be able to upgrade if it is available.

A little while ago we’ve shown you the first pictures of Microsoft’s first mobile phones, the Turtle and the Pure. In case you don’t remember them we will not hold it against you! They are supposed to be entry to mid-level phones meant to act as affordable texting machines made for people that are use to sending a lot of SMS messages, emails or Twitter updates.
But we haven’t forgotten them and neither did Microsoft. In fact the company decided to deny their existence. Again Redmond is telling everyone that Microsoft is not making any phones of its own. This time, the official voice is Robbie Bach:
We’re not going to discuss the rumors, or discuss any of the things you might see or might read.
So what will you discuss Microsoft? Would you be willing to discuss Project Pink? What will you say after you do launch the first Microsoft phones?

About a month ago we told you that the HTC Tilt 2 would be made available for AT&T on October 6th. Well, it seems that BGR dug up some dirt on the phone and have found out that it will in fact be shipping on October 8th.
So, those of you who are looking to access that newly launched Windows 6.5 Marketplace you now have another option to choose from. Of course you’re going to have to wait until Q3 when AT&T pushes out that free Windows Mobile 6.1 - 6.5 update.

Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s App Store wasn’t schedule to go live until tomorrow October 6th but it seems that the guys over at Redmond have jumped the gun launching the Marketplace today, one day early.
Make note that the only phone currently available that is able to access the Marketplace is the HTC manufactured AT&T Pure which runs Windows Mobile 6.5. Everything else, you’re going to have to wait until the coming weeks where more Windows Mobile 6.5 powered phones are expected to be released.

Sony is really riding the wave on its brand new PS3 Slim. The game console is selling like hot cakes all over the place so it’s no wonder that a 250GB PS3 Slim model has also been developed. The bigger model has apparently arrived in stores and retailers are waiting to sell it to the angry mobs gathering in front of their stores. Ok, maybe there’s nobody lining up to get this model yet as the 250GB PS3 Slim should officially be available starting with October 6. But then again, there’s at least one store that’s selling those boxes in the picture here.
On a different note it looks like October 6 is a day when everyone wants to get noticed. It is definitely not going to be a day dedicated to Microsoft related events like the big Windows Mobile 6.5 launch after all as both Sony and Motorola have apparently big plans scheduled on the very same date. So what will you do on October 6? Follow Microsoft’s launch, grab a 250GB PS3 from Sony or attend Motorola’s MOTODEV event?

What you see above is a live shot of the Windows Mobile 6.5 powered HTC Pure destined for an AT&T launch. Don’t think you’ll be able to walk into your local store and purchase one as it hasn’t been confirmed that all stores have them in stock and it’s not even for sale yet.
Those of you who know the HTC Touch Diamond2 will be familiar with this phone as spec wise it is the same thing except for the fact that it features a different body design exclusive to AT&T.
Why exactly they would take a perfectly good design and make it uglier, I don’t know.

What you see above is MSI’s recently announced GT640 gaming laptop which the manufacturers are touting as the “world’s most powerful gaming notebook”.
Under the hood of this beast is a 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM processor and a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 with 1GB of dedicated RAM. Couple this with a 15.4″ 1680 x 1050 resolution display, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB of hard drive space, a Blu-ray burner, 2MP webcam, HDMI port, eSATA input and last but not least 7.1 channel audio output.
Now, there was no mention of a release date but considering it is shipping with Windows 7 preinstalled, we can only assume that it will go up for sale sometime around the software’s October 22nd release date.
