Those of you who are missing out on CEATAC Japan should enjoy this shot of Sharp’s new NetWalker PC-Z1. The photo isn’t much to give it scale, but let’s just say it is the missing link between smartphone and netbook.

It has a five inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. It also has an optical pointer, 4 gigabytes of memory, microSD memory, 10 hour battery life, and a USB port. It is scheduled for release in late October for a price of $500, but it will probably be a Japanese only release.

It’s no surprise that netbooks are becoming more and more popular, is it? They are a lot cheaper than regular laptops and ultraportable. Manufacturers are announcing more and more models but at the same time they are shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to overall revenues. Customers tend to ignore laptops and choose the cheaper versions instead. In the second quarter the portable PC market was at $26.4 billion which is 5% less than last year’s similar period. Netbook sales brought in 264% more revenue than last year but, which means that netbooks represent 11.7% share of the mobile PC market. Next year it’s expected that netbooks will account for 21.5% of portable shipments and bring in 10.9%. I wonder if they’re counting future tablets sales there because I have the feeling we’re going to see quite a bunch of tablets the size of a netbook in the near future.

Today was the day for Dell to present something different, instead of technical stuff like new features for a laptop, they just released a new line of designs made by their Design Studio.

As you can see on the image, baseball was one of the inspirations and there are 3 variations: the Mini and Studio notebooks come with a custom lid that features the team logo; the Classic version gives more detail to the background and inserts the logo on a small size; as for the Fan version it just has a big logo.

The other line that was presented has women as the target and the covers match the style of nail polishes. There are different colors like brown, pink, red, or white, and each of them has a cool swirl pattern.

You can always call it an innocent mistake, or if you like conspiracy theories, you can assume that Google has leaked Apple’s new Apple iMac, Mac mini and MacBook intentionally. What happened you ask? It looks like Google served some new AdSense ads in the Netherlands mentioning all these new gadgets.

Google’s AdSense has been delivering the following ads:

    • “Apple’s Newest MacBook. Thinner, lighter and faster! Free delivery. Order today”
    • “Apple’s New Mac mini. Faster and more affordable than ever. From only $723. Order immediately.”
    • “The Brane new iMac. Ultra Thin 20 & 24 inch models. From $1.063. Apple Store”

The links are pointing to a dead page of the local Apple Store which means this all looks pretty genuine. Let’s see how and if Apple will respond to this! What do you think?

What you see above is MSI’s recently announced GT640 gaming laptop which the manufacturers are touting as the “world’s most powerful gaming notebook”.

Under the hood of this beast is a 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM processor and a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 with 1GB of dedicated RAM. Couple this with a 15.4″ 1680 x 1050 resolution display, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB of hard drive space, a Blu-ray burner, 2MP webcam, HDMI port, eSATA input and last but not least 7.1 channel audio output.

Now, there was no mention of a release date but considering it is shipping with Windows 7 preinstalled, we can only assume that it will go up for sale sometime around the software’s October 22nd release date.

  • T100 are the new series of laptops presented by Toshiba earlier today. What makes these series stand out from the rest is the fact that it’s the first system to use the Intel CULV platform, with Windows 7 as the operative System.

In these series you have the T115, which has the small 11.6-inch display screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, and an option to pick the processor: a 1.3GHz Celeron, or a Dual-Core 1.3GHz Pentium. The bigger T135 has a 133-inch screen and the same processors, with the main difference being the inclusion of bluetooth on the T135. Other details include WiFi, a webcam, Windows / Home Premium, and probably a 250GB hard-drive.

While the T115 will cost $450, the T135 will have a price tag of $600.

  • At just over half an inch in thickness, the Dell Latitude Z will surely be the thinnest laptop on the block, but what really sets it apart are its features like wireless charging and wireless docking station.  The notebook can be charged by placing it on a special stand that creates an inductive charging field, eliminating the need for a power cord completely, charging it at the same speed as a conventional cord.  The wireless docking station supports any USB device and features sockets for audio jacks and placing the big Z within 9 feet of the station will give users wireless access to these devices.  Dell has also put in a secondary motherboard with an ARM processor, a WiFi chip, and a graphics card running Linux to give users basic tools like email, browsing, and even VPN networking, and conserves battery power to run up to 48 hours.
