  • Pharos already had the GPS Phone 600 and 600e available for T-Mobile customers, but they’ve added two new products entitled Traveler 117 and 127.

Much like the other models, the Travelers are categorized as “GPS Smartphones” and strangely enough they come unlocked, meaning that a 3.5G connection is possible. The 2 new products will be the first ones to make use of Pharos Smart Navigator - their hybrid navigation system that has location services as its main feature.

  • Navigon Releases 8100T GPS Unit

The 8100T is one of the best GPS units Navigon has released so far, or at least that’s what they say. But is it really so? Think about the 4.8 inch display, the brushed-metal housing, a 3D view based on the NASA terrain height data, real-time traffic updates which are free for life, voice destination entry, text-to-speech recognition, Bluetooth handsfree support and an inbuilt lane assistant. What else can this Navigon do? Well it costs $599 so it better live up to our expectations.

  • TeleNav used to be in the software market of GPS navigation systems, but it seems they want something more and decided to go for the hardware market.

With that being said, Telenav Shotgun is their first navigation device. Like the majority of other GPS systems, it has a 4.3-inch touchscreen (480 x 272 pixels of resolution), and an onscreen QWERTY keyboard to make it easy to type a location or street address. Built-in speakers so you can listen to instructions, and a 3.5mm headphone jack are also included.

The battery life seems a bit poor, only 2 hours and a half when using it normally, while on the suspended mode makes the battery last 5 days. Other features on the TeleNav Shotgun include real-time traffic information, internet search on a database with 11 million entries, and updates to maps and business listings every 3 months.

Here’s something I wasn’t expecting to see today, a smart piece of lingerie. It has built-in GPS to help you track it. It will suit all those unnecessary jealousy crisis. A Brazilian freak designer has developed the GPS lingerie, and I’d be pretty much against it. I don’t want to have a 24/7 status report on my girlfriend’s lingerie whereabouts.

  • The last GPS system we mentioned with the Navigon brand was the 5100 max, which is an upgrade of the 5100. But since they really want to dominate this market, another new Navigon has been presented - the 2090S.

Unlike other systems that have a starting price of $300 (or more), the 2090S model only costs $200 and thanks to a partnership it will become exclusively available at Radio Shack. On the other hand, for such a low price you can’t expect to have “normal” features like bluetooth - in the end you get what you pay for.

Anyhow, if simple yet functional is what you look for on a GPS navigation system, the Navigon 2090S will surely please your needs, it comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, text-to-speech, and FreshMaps.

  • Magellan announced a new GPS series. It’s the Maestro 4350 composed of the 4350 and 4370 version. Both units have a new interface called OneTouch which will be very helpful in case you decide to pick any one of them. OneTouch will help you select your favorite destination from a single page. NDrive got its popularity by being the first company in the world to include a breathalyzer on a GPS device, so drivers can easily know if they are in (legal) conditions to take the car. While the launch of that alcohol-friendly GPS system was made one or two years ago, NDrive came up with a new line named Touch.

When comparing the new Touch line to previous models, NDrive says they are lighter by 40% and a bit smaller in dimension too. All of them use version 3.3 of the NDrive software navigation system, that provides up to 10 images per second in aerial mode, and includes a luminosity sensor to control 3D photo navigation.

As for the different models and specifications, here is the list:

    - NDrive Touch Iberia Premium - 3.5-inch screen and 1GB of memory
    - NDrive Touch XL Iberia Premium - 4.3-inch screen and 1GB of memory (more…)

  • Recall the iRiver NV that we mentioned one year ago? It was a beast when it came out, sporting a GPS function, being a portable media player, having a digital media broadcasting feature, and a FM tuner. If you enjoyed the NV, get ready for its smaller brother named iRiver NV Mini.

The main difference is really the size, because the rest of the features are almost all the same. With that being said, the NV Mini has a smaller 3.5-inch screen, which is exactly half the size of the iRiver NV. In terms of the GPS navigation, the system uses software and maps made in Korea by Gini, and it is all included in a SD memory card of 4GB.

The MotoNav TN30 boasts a 4.3-inch touchscreen display (larger than TN20 model), has the usual text-to-speech function, and comes with pre-loaded maps of Canada, Puerto Rico, and 50 US States. Other than that, there isn’t much more technical information available about the new products.

Both devices will arrive at the SEMA 2008 in November but they will arrive in stores only next Spring. Prices you ask? $299.99 or $349.99, depending on which one you’ll pick!
