The Navibe BackTrack GPS is a bit different from all the other GPS systems, instead of being used inside a vehicle, the Navibe can be used on foot to locate your car, or while doing sports like hiking, kayaking, or fishing.

The working method of the Navibe is pretty simple: record a location and the navigation system will “backtrack” you to the exact position. Think of all those times you forgot where the car is parked, and think of all the time you can save…

Technical information of the Navibe BackTrack GPS:

- memory to record 4 locations;
- compass mode with 8 arrows;
- runs with 2AA batteries;
- water-resistant;
- cost $60;

    Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302

    If the previous GPS device from Becker that we mentioned had a strange name “crocodile“, I guess this new one is in the normal range because it is codenamed Traffic Assist Pro Z 302 and is made specifically for truck drivers.

    The latest Becker navigation system made for trucks has a special characteristic: drivers write down the vehicle height, weight, width, and length, and according to those details it displays the best route possible so you can forget about bridges, tunnels and other roads that are impossible for trucks to pass by. Other details of the Becker Traffic Assist Pro Z 302 include a remote control, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, bluetooth, traffic updates, and more.

  • In case you want to be aware of your children’s exact locations at all times then there’s a simple gadget which will help you with that. The Amber Alert GPS 2G acts as a wearable GPS gadget which can be called and texted by parents at any time. In turn the beacon will send a SMS message to the worried parents with the location of their offspring. Alternatively parents will be able to track the kids on the web and the “bread crumbing” feature will create a trail based on the child’s route. That way you can get a message when your kid reaches a certain destination or whenever he or she leaves a certain safe zone. The Amber Alert GPS 2G is available right now for $379.99 and you’ll also be required to choose a monthly plan which can go from $9.99 per month all the way up to $59.98 per month. No matter what plan you choose, you do know that after a certain age you’re going to have to learn to trust them right?

    Remember that nuvifone handset from Garmin Asus? In case you don’t hate it yet for being so late then you might get all excited (again) when we tell you it’s coming to North America sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. According to Garmin, the phone is currently being tested by more U.S. carriers and it’s expected to be launched in Q4. We don’t have any carrier names yet and we don’t know how much the nuvifone will cost. But would you buy a phone that was expected to hit the streets more than six months ago? Wouldn’t you rather get something totally new?

  • Google Latitude hits iPhone

    Google is proud to announce that their Google Latitude service is now available through Apple’s flagship handset, the iPhone.

    Don’t go looking for it on the App Store, however, as Google notified us that it is a web app only. But why? Don’t we already have the Google Maps software preinstalled on our iPhones? Yes, but Apple expressed concern over people potentially thinking Google Latitude is the preinstalled Maps software.

    I agree with Apple, we can’t have people unintentionally stalking eachother, right?

    We are not holding our breath on this one, but Garmin has yet again announced that the nuvifone G60 is finally ready for a release, and this time, the date isn’t in months but days, 27th of July to be exact.  Hard to believe it after seeing them get ready to release it and then back off again at the final moment so many times before, but something tells us this might be the real deal after all.  The nuvifone will apparently be available initially in Taiwan starting July 27th with Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia soon to follow by the end of next month.  Also ready for release is the nuvifone M20, which is almost identical in specs to the G60, but runs Windows Mobile 6.1 (can be upped to 6.5 when that’s released) instead of the Linux operating system that we have seen on the former handset.  No details on the price yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for anymore information on this one.  Read on for a complete spec sheet on both the G60 and M20 nuvifones.

  • Here’s a GPS solution you’ll certainly enjoy. The Navigon 8410 GPS has been launched in Europe and it costs just around $630. For that price you’ll get a 5-inch touchscreen, a polished steel frame, DVB-T digital television tuner, City3D photo-realistic 3D mapping and a media player. I don’t know about you but that 3D mapping software sounds really interesting. You’ll actually see most of the buildings on that screen so getting lost will be even harder. Too bad it’s limited to only a few cities for now. Hopefully that will change in the future and Navigon will add support for even more locations.

  • ECCO Personal Pocket GPS Locator

    When it comes to GPS devices, most of us would not be found having one in hand mainly because no one wants to be seen carrying around a large device just to make sure that they will not get lost in a crowd. However thanks to IDC Design Corporation, a miniature and compact pocket GPS locator is now available for kids, adults and elders so they won’t have to worry about getting lost again.

    The ECCO Personal Pocket GPS locator is certainly a welcome addition to the world of navigation these days. Already available in Amazon, users can simply lock in their starting location with the press of a button. ECCO acts like a compass and once users are ready to return, its’s simple user interface will guide them to their original saved location with a directional arrow and a distance meter.

    Features:

    • Compact size
    • Simple user interface
    • Convenient status display
    • Easy Visual Cues
    • Backlit LCD interface
    • Multi-user capacity
    • Long-distance range
    • Advanced GPS technology
    • Rechargeable battery power
    • Stand-alone device

    Now, this isn’t anything more than proof the feature actually works but take it as you will — Google has recently announced that they have successfully implemented a feature that, with the click of a button, will allow users to semi-accurately pinpoint their location reportedly using the W3C Geolocation API.

    Don’t confuse this with GPS as it’s no where near as accurate but perhaps once the technology progresses it will be able to drop a pin on our location such as the iPhone or similar devices.

    If you are using Firefox or Google Chrome, head to www.maps.google.com and check it out.

  • Eclipse AVN726E DVD GPS

    The Eclipse AVN726E is a powerful tool that features well designed maps that come with elevation data as well as 3D buildings. The company has added some nice features to this product as well, including USB and iPod integration (though you do have to purchase a cable to do this) and DVD/DivX playback. It also features Bluetooth hands free calling, a feature becoming more popularly sought.

    On the downside, if you hope to add traffic data to the device for navigation needs, it will require the Sirius satellite radio to be used. Still, this device is a nice, hands free calling tool that tells you where to go using audio and visual elements.

  • For the people planning to travel a lot soon, here is portable device you may find handy to bring along. Garmin unveils two new GPS devices, both combining powerful tools of Garmin’s eTrex series with the touch-screen technology of the newer Oregon line, albeit on a slightly smaller screen.

    The Dakota 10 will feature a glove-friendly 2.6-in color touchscreen and weigh 6.75 ounces, and will last approximately 20 hours on a single set of batteries while the Dakota 20 adds a 3-axis tilt-compensated compass, a barometric altimeter, wireless connectivity, and a microSD card slot.

    Pre-orders are now being welcomed at GPS city for this device which is set to debut on July 26. Prices start from $200.

    “It’s exciting to see Garmin bringing the technology they’ve advanced so well in the Oregon to a new more affordable price point,” remarked Brenton Wingard, vice president of GPS City. Dan Bartel, vice president of global sales for Garmin agreed, adding, “As families and friends explore the outdoors, Dakota helps keep their adventures affordable and enjoyable.”

  • Frankly we’re tired of all these announcements saying that Garmin-Asus is going to deliver a certain nuvifone in the near future. The latest one is saying that the G60 will arrive in August and it will apparently not be delayed to 2010. It looks like the Linux-related problems have been fixed and the device will be ready for commercial launch. The G60 is going to be followed by even hotter phones and they will run either Android or Windows Mobile. So what do you think folks? Will you trust Garmin-Asus again?
