After a series of tests, FCC recently approved Samsung YP-N1B Personal Navigation Device with Bluetooth. The spectrum of conducted emissions of Samsung YP-N1B Personal Navigation Device was scanned between 150 kHz to 30 MHz. Half wave dipole antenna was used to test the radiated emissions of Samsung YP-N1B Personal Navigation Device with Bluetooth. The trade name and FCC ID will be displayed on Samsung YP-N1B Personal Navigation Device so that the purchaser can see it at the time of purchase. YP-N1BZB, YP-N1BXB, YP-N1BQB, YP-N1BZW, YP-N1BXW, and YP-N1BQW are some of the models of Samsung YP-N1B with Bluetooth series will soon be available in the market with the FCC approved label.

  • Magellan Maestro 4040 and 4050 Given FCC Approval

    Magellan Maestro 4040 and Maestro 4050 GPS which we saw a few weeks ago on The Whack has just got the approval from the FCC. Another in the series, the Maestro 4000, has apparently been rechristened the Maestro 4010.

    The Maestro 4050 comes pre-loaded with US/Canada/Puerto Rico maps. Weighing in at just 8.5 oz, the GPS device sports a spiffy 4.3″ display. Data storage is on an SD memory card. The 4040 is quite similar, measuring in at 5″ x 3.75″ x 0.88″.

    The Maestro 4050’s pricing is not available yet on Magellan’s website, but the 4040 will cut you short by about US $499.99. Thanks to integrated Bluetooth support, both double up as a hands-free receiver for your cell phone.

    Glofiish M700 Gets FCC Green Signal

    Remember the E-ten Glofiish M700 Pocket PC? Well, the device has finally crossed the FCC hurdle. The M700 offers a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under the display, saving space.

    The keyboard is equipped with backlit keys, so you can use the Glofiish M700 in any light condition. Under the hood is Windows Mobile 5.0, and you get mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint allowing you to take your work home or to your son’s baseball game.

    It is compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks as well as WiFi. An embedded SiRF Star III chip delivers GPS location data. For expanding on the in-built memory, the Glofiish M700 supports MicroSD memory cards. A basic 2 megapixel camera is thrown in for additional fun.

    No word on the pricing yet, but it should hit the markets soon. More features in the extended entry.

  • Magellan Maestro 3140 GPS

    maestro_3140.jpgMagellan recently announced the new Maestro 3140 navigational device. The new GPS devices offer the features drivers want in a GPS system with out the high pricing. The Maestro 3100 features a Samsung 2443 processor for rapid routing and a SIRFstar II GPS chip. The GPS receives a slim profile with a 3.5” QVGA touch screen display.

    The system offers voice-promped turn-by-turn with visual direction prompts. The device also features a SmartDetour feature to help drivers get around traffic problems, and a QuickSpell feature which spells checks entered data. Adding on to the feature set of the 3100, the Maestro 3140 adds additional features including Bluetooth wireless capability, text-to-speech features, and AAA TourBook travel information and roadside assistance details.

    The 3140 also comes pre-loaded with maps of the 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and Canada, including an extensive poi (points of interest) database providing millions of business and service listings. There are also additional optional upgrades which enable the users to access real-time traffic services. The 3140 should be available sometime in May with a retail price of around $399.99.

The unit receives a large 6.9” screen and comes standard with a remote. It also features flash-drive navigation technology. The unit is now shipping and is priced around $1,400.

Like other TomTom devices, it is easy-to-use, lightweight and portable. It’s large 4.3” touch screen display provides an expanded view of the driving area which shows even more street names and side roads.The ONE XL is ready to provide drivers with access to real-time traffic updates and road conditions with a subscription to TomTom traffic.

    The device comes prepared with the most up-to-date maps for a worry-free navigation experience. User can customize and update their device anytime with the free TomTom HOME software which allows users to manage, store and transfer content from their computer to their TomTom GPS device. Additionally, users can even download celebrity or character voices.

    The TomTom ONE XL will be available in June 2007 in Canada and the US for a retail price of $399.

The RIDER has been designed keeping in mind the bikers hence it is both rugged and waterproof. Mounting is not a problem as the device is compatible with almost all bikes and comes bundled with a RAM mounting hardware.

    The RIDER 2 comes equipped with an intuitive touch-screen which can be handled even when wearing gloves. It contains a GPS receiver with 20 Channel all-in-view tracking and a 380 MHz CPU. The 3.5 inch touch-screen has a 320 x 240 TFT resolution and one can easily view the traditional 2D map-format graphics and 3D bird’s-eye view.

    The GPS device measures 113,2mm x 96,2mm x 52,9mm and comes bundled with a new Cardo scala-rider™ Bluetooth® headset for in-helmet spoken instructions. One also comes across a USB port and a SD Card slot, which makes the RIDER a complete multimedia device. Users will be happy to now that all the newest NAVTEQ maps are installed on a 1 Gb SD card as one seamless map which cover most of western Europe.The TomTom RIDER Europe 2nd edition will be available from May 2007 however no word on pricing.

    GarminLogo.jpgGarmin introduced a new remote, designed to work with the GDL69A, to receive broadcast weather data and CD quality audio entertainment from XM WX(TM) Satellite Weather and XM Satellite Radio. The idea is to make flying more enjoyable for pilots and passengers flying aboard a Garmin equipped aircraft. Passengers in the cabin of the airplane can scan through their favorite XM radio channels without disturbing the pilot.

    It has a high contrast, 160×128 pixel back lit display that makes it viewable in all lighting conditions. The remote uses two AA batteries and turns itself off when not in use. And with its strong 2.4 GHz RF link, you can control the XM from anywhere in the cabin. The availability will be around June, 2007 for around $590.00.

  • Sony NV-U72TSony has revealed their new personal navigation devices, including the NV-U72T and NV-U52. The devices use a suction cup and cradle to be attached to a something like a dashboard, or could simply be used without the accessories to take them on the go. The new models also feature a 3.5-inch screen with Sony Gesture Commands, which allows you to simply draw a route to somewhere and the system will automatically guide you to your destination. Dynamic Routing Information is also included, which basically informs you of important locations on the map, such as gas stations, and notifications of what is ahead, which will come in handy for unfamiliar routes. The Sony NV-U52 will include 512MB of flash memory, while the Sony NV-U72T will be packed with 2GB. Additionally, you may use Memory Sticks for extra storage. You can also purchase a subscription to broadcasts of the Traffic Message Channel to alert you of things such as traffic jams. Both models will have a car battery adapter, a USB cable, an application data disc and a carry pouch in the package. A free Safety Camera indicator trial will also be included.

Nokia tonight will soon be announcing U.S. availability of the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation unit, with expected shipping in April. The device come preloaded with Navteq maps. It features a 3.5-inch touch screen display, turn-by-turn voice-guided directions, music/video multimedia player and image viewer. When available, you can pick up one of these navigation units for roughly $499.

    medion_x4310.jpgMedion revealed two new GPS navigation systems, the GoPal S2310 and X4510, at CeBIT. The two models include the upgraded GoPal 3.0 navigation software. The updated software uses maps from nantec, and available in the editions; Medium Edition, Advanced Edition and Premium Edition.

    GoPal S2310 sports a 3.5? display screen. Its sports a rounded antishock plastic casing. A key feature is the tracking mode, which allows users to record the devices course and export it to Google Earth in order to visualize them. The GoPal S2310 will be priced around 299

    eZEX_gps.jpgEZEX presents its new its NAVZEN N430 at the 2007 CeBit. The N430 GPS device operates on Microsoft WinCE operating system on a 32 bit ARM9 processor and 64MB RAM. It has a nice small size measuring 120mm x 80mm x 22mm. The 16m-color touchscreen 4.3-inch display has a higher resolution of 480 x 272 pixel. Onboard memory uses NAND flash memory and also has available an expandable SD memory slot. Users have the ability to play music, movies, and a view photos. It also features an FM transmitter to for use of a vehicles existing speakers for commands and Bluetooth technology to make hands-free phone calls. Another special feature that can come in handy is the use of smart volume technology to adjust the devices volume according to the vehicles speed. The NAVZEN N430 is expected to be available for the Korean market in April.
