At CES 2010, there were a lot of tablets on display, and everyone is saying that this is the year of the tablet. Unfortunately, there is one tablet that won’t be made, at least for now.
Apparently, there was a rumor that HTC was working with Google to make a Chrome OS tablet. However, the marketing director says no, and that they are concentrating on making Android-powered smartphones instead.
I suppose I should say “too bad”, but considering the amount of tablets on the market, I don’t think we’ll notice one missing.

I’m sure there are a lot of iPhone users that appreciate the Rhapsody music-playing app, but they can only enjoy it while it plays alone. A new beta version of Rhapsody is now available for Android, and it is able to play as a background app.
This beta version has all the Rhapsody bells and whistles like album, track, and artist search, or browsing by genres. The user can also make a personal libraryn with sub-menus for artists, playlists, stations, and purchases.
You should be able to purchase this free app by following the instrucitons here.

I think we’ve all seen unboxing videos, and I’ve done a few in my time. However, this one of the Nexus One is the finest unboxing video that I have ever seen.
First of all, it has ninjas, stop motion ninjas. Ninjas that can somehow beat, kick, and slice a box with the Nexus One and not harm the earphones, USB cable, charging cord, nor the unit itself.
Anyway, there isn’t really any story here that you don’t already know. I just thought you’d like the video.

You know how some phones have a delayed launch? I suppose this is the case for the LG GW620, or InTouch Max.
Images of the GW620 showed up in Septemer, and it is now going to be released in the United Kingdom through Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile. It has Android 1.5 and a touchscreen, and British citizens can sign up for the GW620 for about $32.50 a month.

According to Google’s Erick Tseng, the next Android version will be called “Froyo” short for “Frozen Yogurt”. The revelation cam during an interview with Engadget. Sadly, no other details were revealed about the new update, no date, nor features nor anything else was really said. But at least we know what it’ll be called. Froyo.

While American’s have been able to access Amazon’s MP3 store on Android devices, most other regions unfortunately haven’t, especially the UK has been waiting for it for a while. Now it has been revealed that Amazon MP3 store will be available with Android 2.1 in the UK. Actually, it’s already available on any device running 2.1.

Vodafone seems to be better off with the iPhone compared to the Google Nexus One. Unlike the troubled Google Phone, Vodafone has even encountered a shortage on orders for pre-ordered iPhones. They had initially shipped 50,000 iPhones for customers who have pre-ordered and reports say that this was not enough!
Vodafone has promised through Twitter that the pending phones may be delivered soon, unless something catastrophic or fortuitous occurs.

Earlier this month we let you know that LG would be bringing Windows Mobile 7 to their handsets later this year but that’s about all we heard of it. Now, a French blogger meeting with LG has tweeted that Windows Mobile 7 will be coming to their handsets in September of this year.
Of course, the tweets have since been pulled but WMPoweruser managed to snag the above screenshot of the tweets just before they were pulled. Furthermore, from the same round of tweets we can see that Android 2.1 will be coming to LG handsets this April.
Can these tweets be believed? Something tells me they can.

Renders of a device called the Motorola Shadow have appeared today followed by some pretty interesting rumors. While the Shadow looks to me a sort of Droid successor, sources our telling us that this will infact be the Google Nexus Two.
If true, this means that we will be seeing this device sold straight from Google unlocked. Unfortunately we have no word on its specs or anything of the sort other than the obvious fact that it features a touchscreen and slide out QWERTY keyboard and presumably the Android OS.
We’ll keep you posted as this one unfolds.

I’m sure we all know that texting while driving is slowly killing our young, and it should be no surprise that companies are coming out with applications to prevent texting while driving accidents from occurring.
For example, Textecution, an Android app that parents can install in their children’s phones. Textecution is designed to shut down texting send and receive functions if the phone is moving at 10 miles per hour or more.
Yes, that doesn’t help a kid if he or she is a passenger in a vehicle and wants to send an important text message, but it is a step in the right direction for preventing accidents, isn’t it?

When the Nexus One first came out, T-Mobile users, who were eligible, were forced to pay $379 for an upgrade fee. Sure, that may seem a little high especially for a company who’s slogan is “Don’t be evil”. Luckily, Google has swooped in to announce that they will be slashing the upgrade price from $379 to $279.
Those of you who paid the $379 to upgrade, don’t worry as Google promises to give you a $100 refund through Google Checkout at some point in the near future. We’ll keep you posted about news regarding the refund.

I’m not certain if you’ve ever heard of Ikan before, but it is a way of putting your grocery lists on a mobile device. All the user has to do is scan a particular item, and then it will appear on their mobile list for their next trip to the grocery store. That, or a separate hard copy printout.
Ikan has been around for a few years, and it is now running on Android. You should be able to get an Ikan system in your home for about $400.

According to the Android blog Phandroid, Motorola’s Backflip may sell on AT&T, starting March 7.
The smartphone would normally cost $324 before any carrier, which is much less for any other Android phone. Neither Motorola or AT&T are saying if any of these supposed rumors are true, but AT&T did reveal that they wanted to have Android handsets for their market sometime this year, so why not this one?

That Nexus One Google Phone is certainly turning heads, and we’ve already reported on it numerous times here. However, they say that the proof is in the pudding, so how did it sell?
According to reports, it has sold about 20,000 units in its first week. In comparison, the Droid sold 250,000m and 1.6 million for the iPhone 3GS. Should we be surprised or relieved by those figures? In all honesty, I’m not certain.

Google has recently launched a new service named “Near Me Now” specifically for the iPhone and Android. As the name suggests, this service lets people find POIs – points of interest – which are near the location of the user.
One of the good details of this recently launched feature is the inclusion of a “category search” which makes it easy to locate movie theaters, malls, and other POIs.
The “Near Me Now” feature is compatible with iPhones that run the v3.0 (and up) and also with Androids running v2.0.1 and up.

While Google’s super-hyped Nexus One phone retails for $530 unlocked, it costs only $175 to manufacture, according to iSuppli, which did their usual tear down of the device. The priciest components were the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU ($30.50), the AMOLED display ($23.50) and the memory ($20.40). It also turns out that Google spend $17.50 for “capacitive multitouch touchscreen assembly”, despite the Nexus One not having multitouch — at least not in the US.

While previously thought to be supporting 802.11n, Google has updated the specs for the Nexus One indicating that the device will not include said feature.
This is peculiar as the same page has previously listed the device to include connectivity for 802.11b/g/n but has been updated to remove the n.
Will we see 802.11n connectivity return through a firmware update or something similar? Your guess is as good as ours at this point.

While cell phones continuously get more and more and advanced the majority of them lack one major feature: Flash support. Well, with the announcement of the internet oriented Nexus One it led to many questions about whether or not we will be seeing the highly sought after Flash support.
Well, it looks like our prayers have been answered and the Nexus One will in fact be getting support for Flash 10.1.
Check out the above video for more information.
