Google’s Google Voice is currently a very big deal in the mobile business. Apple has rejected it from the App Store and the FCC has started to ask questions about the ban. We have already shown you what Apple, AT&T and Google have responded to the FCC and we feel like we have to remind you that nobody seems to be guilty for what happened to the app. And now we came accros the video above which does a quick recap of the whole debacle. This goes to show that everyone noticed this Google vs Apple (and AT&T) scandal and I have a feeling we’re going to see more of it soon. Will the FCC offer a solution to the whole problem or will Google find a smart way to give iPhone users access to its Google Voice? What’s your opinion? Who’s side are you going to take? Would you use Google Voice on your iPhone if available right away? Or do you agree with Apple?

We were waiting for ever for Motorola to come clean with its Android phones. We’ve seen various leaked shots and we know Moto has been working hard on Android phones and if this whole investment doesn’t pay off, Moto might soon swim with the fishes. The company has scheduled a special event on September 10 in San Francisco in which it will present its creations. We’re counting on the Morrison and the Sholes to be unveiled but we wouldn’t mind seeing something totally new. What do you think? Ready for an Android phone in your life?

After we’ve seen yesterday that AT&T is not at fault for the rejection of Google Voice from the App Store and that the app is, in fact, not rejected but under a long review, it’s now Google’s turn to respond. And I don’t want to spoil it all for you but Google is also not at fault for the rejection of Google Voice. Did I say rejection? I meant review of course. At the rate we’re going it looks like nobody is to blame here so the only entity left here to question is the FCC. Maybe the FCC should also respond to itself clearing its name regarding the Google Voice ban. I meant to say, of course, review instead of ban!
Unfortunately we can’t see the conversations Google had with AT&T and Apple. Those would have been really interesting to read and therefore they have been redacted…
If you’re willing to give it a try, follow the link to read why Google’s Google Voice is a good application for humanity and shouldn’t be in any way thrown out of the App Store world. And by thrown out, I do honestly mean reviewed for a much-longer-than-necessary time.
Coming soon, at least one can hope, the FCC ruling in this matter!

What is a Pulse you might ask? Well it’s Huawei’s Android phone and it’s apparently coming to T-Mobile in Europe. The phone hasn’t been announced so far but rumors point to an October launch. The Pulse is said to cost around $366 without a contract and it will apparently sport the following features:
Will the Pulse make it to the U.S. this year? That remain to be seen, but we’ll keep a lookout for you!

I know a bunch of you guys have been waiting for Google’s Google App Connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server since it was announced earlier this year at WES. Well it looks like it is now available and the tool is going to be free to Google Apps Premier and Education Edition users. Using Google App Connector you will be able to integrate Google Apps with BES without needing the Exchange.
And here are the main features of Google App Connector:
- Messages sent to your Gmail inbox are pushed to your BlackBerry within 60 seconds.
- Emails read/deleted on your BlackBerry are marked as read/deleted in Gmail, and vice-versa.
- Emails archived/starred on your BlackBerry are archived/starred in Gmail, and vice-versa.
- BlackBerry folders are synchronized with labels in Gmail.
- You can search for contact information of coworkers from the global address list on your BlackBerry.
- Contacts in Gmail are automatically synchronized with your BlackBerry address book.
- You can view your Google Calendar schedule with the native BlackBerry application, with one-way synchronization from Google Calendar to your BlackBerry device. Two-way calendar sync with the ability to accept, decline and schedule meetings from your BlackBerry device is not available with this release but we are working on it.
- Administrators can use the management and security tools that are part of BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

I bet you weren’t expecting this but Google seems to be doing a little app banning for a change. According to an USA Today article, Google tried to block a Skype application from the Android Market. That sounds weird considering Google’s experience with its Google Voice rejection from the App Store.
According to the article Google rejected the full app and instead it has only allowed a Lite version of it. Here’s Andy Rubin’s take on the whole deal:
Here are the facts, clear and simple: While the first generation of our Android software did not support full-featured VoIP applications due to technology limitations, we have worked through those limitations in subsequent versions of Android, and developers are now able to build and upload VoIP services.
As we told USA Today earlier in the week Google did not reject an application from Skype or from any other company that provides VoIP services. To suggest otherwise is false. At this point no software developer — including Skype — has implemented a complete VoIP application for Android. But we’re excited to see — and use — these applications when they’re submitted, because they often provide more choice and options for users. We also look forward to the day when consumers can access any application, including VoIP apps, from any device, on any network.
So it looks like Google isn’t guilty either, a quality which seems to be in fashion today! Will the FCC check out this app approval too?

Here comes Apple’s response for the FCC regarding Google Voice. And it looks like Apple has not rejected the application just yet as it is still reviewing it before allowing customers to access it. Why is Apple reviewing it? Well it looks like Google Voice has two major issues. And these are:
1. [Google Voice] appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail.
2. The iPhone user’s entire Contacts database is transferred to Google’s servers, and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways. These factors present several new issues and questions to us that we are still pondering at this time.
Well it took Apple and AT&T three weeks to answer so we’re really looking forward to see what FCC and Google have to say about this. What if Google will alter that user interface to resemble more to Apple’s interface? Will the app still be banned under review?
If it makes you feel any better, plenty of other apps have also been banned and you’ll find the complete response by following the link below.

Recent reports have suggested that Microsoft is planning to debut their updated mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 7, on devices starting in Q4 2010. But don’t think we can wash our hands clear of Windows Mobile 6.5 yet as the same reports say that Microsoft will support the two operating systems simultaneously.
This, in turn, will help Microsoft compete with the iPhone and Android operating system as they will have the higher end Windows Mobile 7 on the market alongside the cheaper Windows Mobile 6.5. Will it work? Only time will tell.

The guys over at phandroid have recently gotten their hands on the above picture of a forthcoming Android powered Samsung device called the InstinctQ which is evidently destined for Sprint.
As you can see, the InstinctQ will feature a slide out QWERTY keyboard, a touchscreen display and touch sensitive buttons on the front of the handset. That’s about all we have in terms of specs for this device right now with no word of a price or release date either.

Yesterday we showed you an Android powered MID that looked shockingly like something Apple’s hardware designers would think up even though we knew the guys in Cupertino had nothing to do with it. At the time it was spotted, the entire Internet was confused as to what the device actually was.
Today, however, it looks like the internet may have figured out what the device actually is; the MID-560 from SMiT which we’ve included a render of, above. While it’s not confirmed the above device is the same as the one we saw yesterday but it’s 800 x 480 resolution, 533/667 MHz processor, 8GB of internal storage and microSD card still make it a highly sought after device. We’ll just have to wait until live shots of the MID-560 are released so we can compare the two.
Unfortunately, the chances of it ever hitting the market outside of China remains slim to none.

Despite us clearly seeing the phone in the flesh (and assuming it was made official) Dell represenatives have stepped forward to say that the phone you saw, wasn’t actually a real phone. In fact, they are saying the Dell Mini 3i we saw was nothing more than a “proof of concept” to let everyone know that they are in fact making a Android/oPhone based handset for China Mobile.
Regardless of what PR stunt Dell is trying to pull here, I think it’s safe to assume that we will in fact be seeing the Mini 3i hit China Mobile at some point in the future. We’ll just have to wait for Dell to come forth and tell us they were kidding, and that the phone we previously saw is actually real.

Here’s an announcement that is sure to piss off T-Mobile G1 owners everywhere — It was recently made known that the internal flash memory of the T-Mobile G1 is not big enough to support Android updates past version 1.5 (aka Cupcake).
However, G1 owners won’t be left in the dark as their OS will get continued support through tweaks and security fixes. However, a full OS update would be impossible considering the device’s internal memory is stock full, as I mentioned above.
Quite the bummer, don’t you agree?

Back in July we saw the first set of leaked Chrome OS screen shots, or so we thought. Turns out, those were fake (who could have guessed?) but today, we bring you more screen shots of the operating system. The verdict? Still most likely fake.
While the UI looks like something Google could possibly have backed, why are the images taken on a CRT monitor? Considering Google’s massive size, one would think they would be able to provide their developers with a screen that isn’t dated as the one pictured above.
Either way, we’re going to just assume these are fake until Google comes forward and gives us an actual glimpse of the OS in action.

HTC has recently announced that they will be porting their highly sought after Sense UI to their Magic handset this October. Unfortunately, those with the American version of the Magic (T-Mobile myTouch 3G) will not be getting the same love due to the “with Google” branding on the back.
The reason for this is that T-Mobile reportedly signed an agreement with Google regarding Android’s licensing that made it unlawful for them to adopt the Sense UI. Bummer.

It seems that those blurry pictures we got of Dell’s rumored smartphone were real as today the phone was officially revealed in China. The device itself is called the Mini 3i and is running Google’s Android operating system. The device, however, does not feature WiFi or 3G connectivity and instead just EDGE.
If that little tidbit didn’t turn you away, read on for the rest of the specs:
Unfortunately there is no word on when (if ever) we will see Dell’s Mini 3i hit North American shelves.

Motorola is trying to keep its Android work as secret as possible but more and more details seem to unexpectedly leak to the public. And Motorola’s future Android phone, the Shules seems even hotter than initially expected.
The phone will apparently run on Android Eclair as it will skip entirely the Donut version. Does that mean that the Shules is going to be the first handset running on Eclair?
A different rumor says that the Shules will a device made for gaming as it will come with ARMv7 architecture and 3D graphics support.
The phone will apparently be available from Verizon and AT&T and/or T-Mobile. That’s right, a GSM version is also in the works and AT&T and especially T-Mobile should be interested in the Shules.
With so many rumors on our hands, we have to wait for Motorola to start spilling the beans. Is anything of what we’ve just said true?

HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has recently stepped forward to let us know that his company has officially sold over 1 million HTC Magics to date. If you’re scratching your head looking at the above device associated with the name Magic, it’s because branded it’s called the T-Mobile myTouch 3G in the United States.
Furthermore, Chou went on to say that HTC will focus their efforts on releasing more mid-range sub $300 smart phones onto the market for the rest of 2009. In fact, he hopes to have 50-60% of all of HTC’s handset shipments fall into the mid-range category.

Google Voice has been banned for the app store and the FCC is thoroughly investigating it. But no matter what conclusion will be drawn, you’ll still be able to use Google Voice on your iPhone, and not necessarily as an independent app. Instead you’ll be able to access a web-based version of Google Voice. It looks like the app will be transformed into a web-based app which will offer basically the same features. Nothing is official just yet but we’ll be really curios to see how will Apple ban a web-based Google Voice app.
