For what it’s worth, Apple has made an official statement regarding the much celebrated issue concerning the rejection of the Google Voice for the iPhone. Well actually they are denying the claims og Google Inc. that that the app has been rejected. In fact, Apple is still in the process of studying the Google Voice app. They are making sure that it doesn’t replace the core mobile telephone functionality of the iPhone.

As you may probably know, the FCC has stepped in to get to the bottom of the issue. From the looks of it, nothing has been resolved and negotiations are still being done. Now why would Google make such a declarative statement if Apple is indeed still studying the app. Someone is lying here!

The FCC is still investigating the rejections of Google’s Google Voice application from the App Store. We’ve seen AT&T’s and Apple’s response related to Google Voice but the best part, Google’s letter to the FCC hasn’t been available to the public in its full version until now. The FCC decided to reveal the whole letter and you can check it out for yourself by following the link below.

So why has Apple rejected Google Voice? From the correspondence between Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Shiller and Google’s Senior VP of Engineering & Research, Alan Eustace there only a conclusion to be drawn: it seems that the “application duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone” and that was an unwanted scenario. But wait a minute, didn’t Apple say they are still revising the app? Well it looks like Apple told Google that Google Voice has been rejected from the store. Did Apple lie in its response to the FCC?

We’ll see how this conflict develops in the future as there’s no clear conclusion about the future of Google Voice for iPhone so far.

  • SoundofMotion adds another handy application that can be integrated with Android smartphones with the release of VeloComputer7. This latest software virtually transforms mobile phones into GPS and tracking devices, a useful addition for the cyclists who often embark on long journeys.

It comes with a built-in accelerometer and all a cyclist has to do is attach the phone to his bike or his tights and he can get the proper navigation support. Likewise, it helps keep track of the pedaling done by the person, the built-in accelerometer detects up and down leg motion and calculates cadence in rotations per minute or RPM. This technology frees the bicycle from any sensors on a crankshaft.

VeloComputer is now available on Android Market, BlackBerry App World and Sony-Ericsson PlayNow Arena in 9 languages and retails for $14.95.

Seems like Sony Ericsson wants to cover all the OS bases this January.  Besides the WM6.5-toting X2 that is set for a January 2010 release, MobileCrunch now reveals that the X2 successor, X3, will hit the streets at about the same time, SE’s first device with Android under the hood.  Hard to believe but looks like a great marketing ploy, considering that every other manufacturer is getting in on the Android game, and SE seems to have realized that the sooner the better.  This is yet to be confirmed, so you might want to take this news with a spoonful of skepticism, but if it is true, seeing the quality that the Xperia devices carry, we will have two great devices to choose from next January!

    Android v1.6 Becomes Official

A few days back, speculations were rising that Google would be releasing the Android v1.6. Well now it is all official! Google officially launched the Android v1.6 (also known as the “Donut”), armed with a wide array of features that should make Android developers all jumpy and curious. Among the new features of the Donut include CDMA support and better resolution which bump screens all the way up to 800×480 thus providing support for better images for higher end-screens.

Other enhancements include a new “Quick Search” box and a battery usage system. These and a whole lot more of enticing features are what the new Android promises to provide developers. Google expects first sanctioned appearances on devices to start popping out by October.

  • Yesterday we let you know that the Motorola CLIQ would be coming to the UK sometime in 2010 as the Motorola DEXT. However, today we have some contrasting news as recent reports suggest that the Motorola DEXT will in fact be hitting Orange UK sometime early next month.

Furthermore, pre-orders are supposedly going to start sometime around September 22nd so if you’re on Orange UK and want to get yourself an Android handset you should probably wait off until then.

Motorola launched its first Android phone yesterday at Mobilize 09. And the Cliq has briefly popped up on T-Mobile’s website, the official carrier for Motorola’s newest phone. We have some prices for you right now, and although they look pretty real we’ll be waiting for T-Mobile to confirm them in the near future. It looks like those of your opting for a new T-Mobile contract will get the Cliq for free, which is a great deal if you’re considering getting your first Android phone. In case you want to pay the full price then be ready to pay $399.99 which is the full price for the Cliq. So what do you say? Are you going to purchase the Cliq?

It’s still early to tell if Motorola is going to be successful in its Android venture but considering the popularity of Android and considering that new MOTOBLUR interface, we should assume that Motorola will have no problem selling lots of Android devices. Is this the way to go if you happen to be a manufacturer dying each day little by little?

Sony Ericsson is certainly not doing so well. In fact we’ve seen report after report showing financial loss after financial loss. So should we believe the rumors suggesting that Sony Ericsson will drop Windows Mobile next year in favor of Android and Symbian devices? According to those rumors, Sony Ericsson doesn’t believe in the power of Windows Mobile anymore. We’ll be waiting to see how Sony Ericsson plans to get reborn out of its own ashes. How does Sony Ericsson Android sound to you?

BlackBerry and iPhone owners have had their own native Facebook app for some time now but the same could not be said for Android users until now, that is.

It was announced today that the Facebook for Android app is now available via the Android Market for free, of course. And, while the app features thing like status updates, news feeds and the like, it currently does not support things like chat or messaging

We already have a Touch2 and a Touch Pro2, it’s only logical for HTC to update its other high-end handset, the Touch HD.  And what an update it is going to be, as the company has many significant changes planned for the new handset, dubbed the Touch HD 2 for now.  According to RegisterHardware, the device will get a faster Qualcomm processor at 628MHz instead of the 528MHz that HTC usually employs in its flagship devices and surprisingly, ditching WinMobile 6.1 (and the upcoming 6.5) to go with Google’s Android.  What may not change is the gorgeous 3.8 inch 480×800 pixel display and the usual suite of features that the Touch HD sported.  So, will the change of OS finally guarantee a release stateside for the Touch HD 2?  Feel free to tell us in the comments sections if you think it will.

  • For a device that’s supposed to be Samsung’s first Android-powered device, the i7500 Galaxy did take its own sweet time to reach the British Commonwealth, with some almost-there moments over the past few months.  The handset is now available on O2 exclusively for the next four weeks, going free on a £45-per-month agreement and you could put down £244.67 and go with the cheapest O2 plan available.  So, Her Majesty’s subjects will finally get to enjoy the Galaxy’s 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps speeds, its 5-megapixel camera, GPS receiver, and of course, Google’s Android!

Android 1.6 to be Released Soon?

Android 1.6 or Donut might be on its way soon since it has already been spotted. It looks like Google is doing some house cleaning and fixing some important issues in the Android Market. Google has been working on a new interface and most importantly, it has announced that developers will now be allowed to add screenshots and improvements to the descriptions of their apps. This is quite a big deal and the new Android Market will be available together with Android 1.6 Donut.

  • As all of you Android users already know, the Android Market isn’t the most attractive app store available today, but that all may change soon enough

The above screen shot was sent to CNET from an anonymous tipster who says the new Android Market look will make its first appearance in Donut. The fact that it is to appear in Donut raises the question over whether or not the T-Mobile G1 will see the new design as it was said the device will not be getting updates past Cupcake.

As of now this is far from confirmed but from the looks of it it looks pretty legit. The fact that it

We only just reported that Verizon is gearing up to launch the Storm 2, Sholes and vx8575 next month and already reports of another handset for the carrier have surfaced. This time, it’s the Android powered HTC Desire which we’ve heard absolutely nothing about until now.

News of the HTC Desire comes to us from a leaked screen shot of Verizon’s handset where it shows the handset’s model number to be 6200 along with the word GOOGL. This most likely means the device will have a with Google branding on the back resulting in no Sense UI.

We’ll keep you updated as more news regarding the HTC Desire 6200 is made known.

  • I bet nobody in Redmond expected this but Sony has decided to adopt Google’s Chrome as the default browser for its future Vaio line. Google and Sony have reached an agreement according to which future desktops and laptops will come with Google Chrome on board. The browser will point to Google for homepage and search queries but I guess that was more than logical wasn’t it? Google will probably approach other manufacturers soon which isn’t such a bad thing after all. This move will surely annoy Microsoft on one hand and all the other developers in the Internet browsing business which will only lead to improved browsing solutions in the near future. What browser do you currently use?

Did you have any problems with your Google Voice lately? Well I’m sure you didn’t if you’re still waiting for Apple to allow the app back in the App Store. But if you’re using any other phone then you might have experienced some dropped calls while using Google Voice.

We have good news for you folks! It looks like Google has realized what the problem is and fixed it. Google Voice users were complaining that calls passing the 15-minute mark were dropped for no apparent reason. That won’t happen again, but just in case it does, feel free to drop us a line about it.
