Google Maps was great as it was but the latest version of 3.2 adds one more major feature to an already awesome application. Version 3.2 now provides users the ability to add multiple layers of information to the maps simultaneously such as Latitude friends’ locations, public transit, traffic with real-time updates, Wikipedia, and local search results. Users can also add their own custom-built routes created on a PC to the map with the My Map layer. The local search results can then be displayed as tiny red dots for quick access just in case. Head over to Google Maps website on your Symbian S60 or Windows Mobile-powered handset to download it.

It seems that HTC has finally gotten fed up with Windows Mobile as rumors suggest that Android will be powering 50% of all their handsets in 2010.
But before they make the Android switch, HTC will reportedly be running Google’s OS on 30% of their 2009 handsets. I wonder how this is making Microsoft feel.
We’ve already seen the Hero and Click, what’s next?

Well folks we have a new Android phone from HTC but I guess that’s not a surprise anymore. What’s interesting about this HTC Click that has appeared in pictures around the web is that it’s supposed to be an entry-level phone. That means you should be able to purchase your first Android phone for an even lower price. No numbers have been mentioned yet and we don’t have any clear data regarding features so we’ll be waiting for HTC to tell us all about the phone soon.

After we’ve seen the X2 earlier today, now we’re going to take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X3 aka Rachael. The first Sony Ericsson Android phone has some specs available now so let’s see them:
Should we assume that Sony Ericsson has purposely leaked the X2 and X3 again? Is the company going to announce them soon? After all we were waiting for this announcement a few weeks ago but it never came!

LG hasn’t announced yet its first Android device but it looks like we might have a name for you. Apparently the GW620 Eve is LG’s first device ready to run on Android. Of course LG isn’t officially commenting on the matter so we’ll have to wait a while for it. Rumored specs of the Eve are an HVGA touchscreen display, a full-QWERTY keypad, WiFi, UMTS and WiFi connectivity and an Android browser. It’s this hint that ruined the surprise and made everyone realize that the Eve could be the first Android device available. Should we expect T-Mobile to just grab it and launch it soon?

Some recent rumors point to a September release of new Acer smartphones. It looks like the company is ready to release a bunch of phones come this fall. The A1, C1/E1, F1 and L1. We’ve been waiting for Acer to make up its mind and announce at least a couple of the handsets mentioned above. The A1 for example will be an Android-powered smartphone while the F1 will be a Windows Mobile phone powered by that Snapdragon platform from Qualcomm. We’ll be waiting for Acer to confirm the rumors and offer us more details about these hot phones.

Google has recently announced that they have launched a Google Voice mobile application for the Blackberry and Android mobile platforms.
If you were lucky enough to get an invite to the Google Voice service you should definitely check this out as it will let you place calls and send SMS with your Google Voice number as well as view voicemail transcripts.
To download the Android application just head to the Android Market and search for Google Voice. However, on the Blackberry just point your browser to m.google.com/voice and you’re good to go.

Visual voicemail has been out for some time now on phones such as the iPhone, Samsung Instinct and various Blackberry models. However, most handsets running Google’s Android operating system haven’t gotten the same love.
Luckily, T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G will in fact include visual voicemail and the TmoNews has been kind enough to demo the software for us. You can view 3 videos of the service, here.
Once this software is up and working, the question remains if it will be ported to other Android devices. I guess only time can tell at this point.

Have you seen the last Palm Pre ad? Well just play the video above. “Go With The Flow” is the name of this simple ad campaign and it will not surprise you with anything. The Pre is a very dependable device but the ad doesn’t really let you see all that magic. Would you buy the Pre after viewing just that single ad? That’s of course assuming that you haven’t heard about the phone so far! The commercial is following that first Palm Pre ad, entitled “Flow”, which was more alive and definitely meant to make an impression. “Go With The Flow” will not be the kind of commercial you talk about with your friends. Nothing really happens in it.
On a different note, it looks like Palm wants to indirectly promote Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing. Is that the purpose of this ad? Will Google or Apple react in any way?

When Google announced their forthcoming Chrome OS a few days ago people wondered if it would go on to replace Android as Google’s mobile OS as well.
However, Google’s VP of Mobile Engineering Platforms, Andy Rubin, recently told the community that there is nothing to worry about and that Android is here to say. He elaborated by saying a mobile OS has much different priorities (such as network protocols and cell tower communication) than those found from a desktop OS.
So Android adopters, you can lay your worries to rest, Chrome OS and Android will exist together without replacing one another. However, I can see some very deep integration of the two within one another, don’t you think?

Remember the Google Chrome OS screenshots we showed you yesterday? Well we have some bad news for you. It looks like these screenshots were doctored. In fact the new OS hasn’t been leaked yet and we can assume Google is safely guarding it for now. We can also assume that other so-called leaked shots will appear in the future so don’t trust everything you see!
The creator of the fake screenshots has gone ahead and declared the following:
I am sorry if you beleived it. It was a really bad attempt. You all are smart people. I never planned on it getting this big. But it did. (Come one, I know the Google logo. I am actually a graphic designer, I just wanted to see reactions if it was a crappy back.)
Oh, right, I also DO know CSS and HTML. Just clarifying that. I never was going to let this go on longer than 12 hours.
Disappointed?

What kind of phone would you expect Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, to use? An Android powered phone, right? Or at least an iPhone given the companie’s close alliances. Well, if you guessed either of those, you’re wrong
As you can see from the above picture, Mr. Schmidt would much rather opt for a BlackBerry rather than an Android powered handset or even an iPhone.
But wait, at least he has a Google sticker on the back so he isn’t doing all wrong.

Now, this isn’t anything more than proof the feature actually works but take it as you will — Google has recently announced that they have successfully implemented a feature that, with the click of a button, will allow users to semi-accurately pinpoint their location reportedly using the W3C Geolocation API.
Don’t confuse this with GPS as it’s no where near as accurate but perhaps once the technology progresses it will be able to drop a pin on our location such as the iPhone or similar devices.
If you are using Firefox or Google Chrome, head to www.maps.google.com and check it out.

By now everyone interested in tech-related issues knows that Google wants to enter an important market. The company is ready to offer a new OS to everyone that owns a computer. Google OS, which we showed you yesterday, will be available to every laptop, desktop or netbook out there. And today we have the first leaked shots of the new OS.
Apparently a very minimal Chrome OS has been offered to a company that supplies parts for Acer and someone took pictures of it. On the other hand, these photos could have easily been photoshopped, and we have to suspect they were forged just as we do with every other leaked pictures. Let’s see if Google will deny anything!

While it probably doesn’t mean the applications are going to get any breakthrough features right off the bat, Google has announced that their entire suite of Google Apps have left the beta stage. But what does this actually mean?
Well, nothing. Google explains their decision to remove the beta tage came along when they realized that some bussinesses were hesistant to make the switch due to the perceived notion that the Apps weren’t ready for “prime time”.
Furthermore, Google vows to continue to innovate and improve on their entire suite of online applications (including Gmail) despite them no longer being in beta form.
