That’s right folks, Wolfram Alpha is a new search engine which is now available for your needs. It’s not going to be your next Google but the Wolfram Alpha is ready for trial. You will be able to use the new search engine to compute systematic knowledge immediately. That means you can write anything you want to know and then compare the results with each other.
Wolfram Alpha will go through 10+ trillion of piece of data, 50,000+ types of algorithms and models, and it has linguistic capabilities for 1000+ domains. Want to try it? Like I said, it’s not Google.

We have some good news and bad news for all you Android lovers. It looks like the HTC Magic will support Exchange and that seems to be a proven fact. According to Google however it looks like Android will not be exactly support it. And that’s an official Google fact: “Android does not currently include support for Microsoft Exchange.” By the time the Magic arrives we hope that all that Exchange support will be clarified and supported by Google Android soon.

Remember the Lenovo Ophone that was supposed to land in China last quarter and didn’t? Looks it wasn’t really buried deep and the Android-powered smartphone is getting ready for a release on the 17th of this month, a good day to do it since it is the World Communications Day. Seen as a direct competitor to the millions of iPhones that have already found their way unofficially to China, the Lenovo Ophone will support 3G, GSM, and LTE-based 4G networks along with China’s own TD-SCDMA system. China Mobile will also provide a host of services to its customers including search and on-demand TV services. All this sounds fine, but with the Chinese people being so in love with the iPhone, it remains to be seen if the Ophone will really make a difference or not. (more…)

Android running on netbooks and laptops is the next logical step of Google’s OS and its progress. While the big names in the industry are working on such devices, a Chinese manufacturer, Skytone is the first company ready to show off a working prototype. The Alpha 680, which we have already seen, will have an ARM11 533MHz CPU, a 7-inch 800×480 display, 128MB of DDR2 RAM, a 1GB SSD drive, SD slot, two USB ports, WiFi and a 2-cell battery. The Alpha 680 will be probably just the first Android netbook and we’re anxious to see what it can do. The device will launch in Q3 2009 and it will cost around $250.

Makes you forget the Touch Pro2 for a moment, doesn’t it? It also makes sense for HTC to use the same ploy as in its Touch series of Windows smartphones and give new life to a successful Android device that’s starting to creak in its ageing joints. The above image is a revision of the G1 that surfaced on BGR, and we have our fingers crossed that this isn’t just a mockup as the idea of a QWERTY-enhanced, Android-powered smartphone has us drooling already. If true, we could expect the G1v2 to land as early as October for $148 on a two-year T-Mobile contract. We’ll let you know when we know more, so keeping coming back.

Aww, that’s too bad. If Acer’s Android phones are anything like the Asus P565 that came back to life recently (which they should be with the uberfast 1GHz Snapdragon CPUs), we will definitely be missing a lot of firepower this year. No reason has been mentioned by Acer for the delay, but the company has reportedly hit some snags with US carriers pushing the likely release date to 2010. Still, a passing remark from Mr. Aymar de Lencquesaing, head of Acer Smartphone Division, gives us a glimmer of hope that we will could see some of that Acer sweetphones in time for the holiday season.
Update: Looks like Acer is going to release some cellphones this year after all. An email from Acer PR to Gearlog has cleared up the whole situation and we should be seeing some Acer smartphones Stateside just in time to woo the holiday shoppers this Christmas.

The 8mpx and 12mpx cameraphones are slowly gaining steam, but that does not necessarily mean a 5-megapixel shooter is out of vogue. Couple that with that with the fact that T-Mobile wants to give their customers a little bit extra, and you have the Android-powered G2 (or the HTC Magic) rocking a 5-megapixel camera instead of the usual 3.2mpx lens that the other carriers offer. And it might be called just plain old T-Mobile G2, which is fine by us as long as we get what’s promised (and more in this case). A Walmart release in July seems probable at this moment with a price tag of $179 for a two-year agreement, but we have seen those dates change too many times before to start counting our chickens already.

That Cupcake or the Android 1.5 update is going to arrive soon but we all knew that. We were still waiting for an official released date and it has been finally leaked. T-Mobile will release the Cupcake update over-the-air starting with May 11. Not everyone will receive the update at once since T-Mobile will roll it out in phases. By the end of this month all Android users should have their devices upgraded, so don’t get all scared if you aren’t among the first lucky ones to get it.

I bet you were not expecting this to happen but it looks like Google and lots of other Android friends are in trouble with the law. Why is that? Well a certain Erich Specht who owns the trademark for Android Data Corporation since way back in October 2002, has sued Google and pretty much everyone else using the “Android” term for trademark infringement.
You would expect Google to be smarter than this and to actually apply themselves for the trademark for “Android” right? Well they did and the trademark application was denied to avoid confusion with Mr. Specht. I guess that Google and everyone else is going to pay a lot of money to keep the Android name in business. That’s right, Mr. Specht wants money and a name-change for Google’s OS. But what’s in a name anyway?

Although not everybody, a few of the Android Community members ekeing it out in the United Kingdom have reported getting over-the-air upgrades to the latest OS version of 1.5 for their Android-powered G1s. A vast majority of T-Mobile subscribers are yet to receive their upgrade notifications, but can expect their piece of (Cup)cake anytime this May. The 1.5 update, which weighs 44MB, will add a virtual QWERTY keyboard, direct photo/video sharing on Picasa and YouTube, and some under-the-hood improvements such as new JavaScript and webkit engines for a better browsing experience.
People here in the US need not feel left out, as the upgrade is slowly reaching users across the Europe and USA too.

Motorola, like Sony Ericsson, didn’t pull off a good quarter. The company’s projected sales figures of $5.62 were all but a dream. It only managed to bring in $5.4 billion in total and just $1.8 billion from the mobile division. That handset division took an impressive hit as sells went down 45% in the first quarter. In total Moto lost $291 or $0.13 a share but the company is ready to face the facts and boldly look to the future. And the future, as far as its mobile division is concerned, has Android written all over it. We’ve seen yesterday not one but two future Motorola Android phones and the company has confirmed that it will introduce “differentiated Android-based devices” just in time for Christmas. What are we too see next? Two more bad quarters for Moto?

What’s the matter with Moto? Did it wake up of its slumber? We’ve just seen the Calgary which will the its first Android phone and now we hear that a new Motorola phone, the Ironman, will also run on Android.
Nobody announced the Ironman just yet so we don’t know if it’s a special edition Iron Man handset or just a codename and the phone is expected to be launched in the third quarter of the year. The phone will feature a good CPU, a full QWERTY keyboard, 3G connectivity, WiFi and an impressive camera. Which one do you like best, the Calgary or the Ironman?

Motorola has been working for quite a while now on its first Android handset and we finally have a name and some pictures. The Calgary will be the first Android phone to come from Motorola plants. Like the G1 the Calgary will have a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard and the Moto phone will focus on social networking. The phone might arrive some time in the second quarter although nobody wants to confirm that right now. We have no leaked specs at this time and there’s no pricing available for the Calgary. At least we know its coming soon…

So blurry pictures ain’t your thing, eh? We’ve got less haze and more Android shine this time, with some sweet Vietnamese rock music in the background to soothe your senses. The I7500 as we already know, is a top-notch device and the third ever cell phone to be running Google’s Android operating system ( this one’s running version 1.5) and a slew of features that include a 3.2-inch OLED touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory with microSD support on top, a 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G/HSDPA network support. Ready to land in Germany for €300 (or $390) this July. Enjoy the video below…

It started as a rumor and it got confirmed faster than we could have imagined. The Samsung I7500 we have shown you yesterday is the first Samsung Android phone. And we have some hands-on photos to delight our imagination with. We can get a general idea about size and shape and all we need now is clear launch dates. At this point the first question that comes to mind is what would you choose? HTC Magic or Samsung I7500?

We thought Vodafone would be the first carrier to make the second Android-powered cell phone, HTC Magic, available in Europe on May 5, but it looks like TIM, a carrier in Italy, might be the first to do that by a mere 24 hours. A quick call from the guys over at Technophone to the carrier revealed that the stores are already in stock and the handset has now appeared on TIM’s website; so a May 4th release doesn’t seem implausible. The HTC Magic has already been blessed by the FCC, so we may not have to wait long before the handset starts popping up Stateside too.

Samsung is unequivocally the most active carrier this year. We’ve seen lots of Samsung phones already and it’s only April. What we haven’t seen yet, although it was announced, a Samsung Android handset. And now we might have a date for you guys. The I7500 is a full touchscreen phone ready to run on Android and heading our way in June.
So without further ado, here’s what we can expect from the I7500:
O2 Germany is going to release it at first and it will cost about €300 or $400. Anybody anxious?

We have more Cupcake talk and this time it’s coming from T-Mobile Germany. The carrier says that Cupcake is on track and it’s coming out in May. Given the fact that the HTC Magic is going to arrive on May 5th wearing that Cupcake, this isn’t exactly breaking news. However T-Mo Germany has also confirmed that the G1 will get Cupcake in May too. That Cupcake will bring lots of features to the Android world. You’re going to get on-screen keyboard, video recording, stereo Bluetooth support, Picasa and YouTube support and more.

Google Product Search is an application which will find your favorite products as long as they are being displayed on the Internet somewhere. And now there’s a version of it for iPhones and Android smartphones. You’re probably going to find the mobile version quite similar to the PC regular search utility. And you won’t have to install anything on your handset. Simply go to google.com and find the “shopping” tab in the “more” tab. All that from your mobile device. Unfortunatelly Google Product Search is currently available in the USA and the UK for now.
