The FX6710-01 is a real beast, featuring an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, and an uncommon amount of RAM memory set at 6GB. The graphics card is powered by an ATI Radeon 4850, while the operative system is the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, with service pack 1.

    Seagate Entering SSD Market

seagate_logo And the world moves one step closer to a hard drive-less existence.

Seagate has announced that it will enter the market for solid-state drives next year, slowly replacing hard drives. The company is defensive of the move, stating that it will take things slowly, first targeting corporate customers. Once it has won over cubicle commandos, it will then target consumers.

Despite all this, the company comes late to the party, as Intel has already started shipping SSDs for both enterprise and consumer markets, and Samsung is now the current consumer market champion. However, Seagate is a big company and a major player in the HDD market, so let’s see how well things play out for them.

    SteelSeries Mouse for WoW Gamers

    wowmousebig
If you have money to burn and are looking for a gaming mouse, then look no further! SteelSeries’ World of Warcraft MMO mouse has just been announced for fans of the popular MMO. It has fifteen programmable buttons (holy shit!) and has flashing lights to confuse the hell out of you.

Dropping in next month for a cool $90, the mouse will let users create macros or use predefined ones for their treks through Blizzard’s soul-eater. It also has 800-3000 CPI and a 3.6mm lift distance. Oh, did I mention you get to have 16 million illumination choices through those disco lights? No? Now you know.

Patent number 7,434,177 named “User interface for providing consolidation and access” has been granted to Apple by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the dock invented by Steve Jobs. It was about the time for that to happen. Apple has been waiting for it for almost 10 years or so.

Now Apple has exclusive rights to prevent others from making, using, selling or otherwise employing replicas of their technology for 20 from now. I am pretty sure I have seen some Apple-like docks in other systems already. That happened before the patent was granted right? What will happen to those docks?

    Cheapest Razer Yet

129_4 Tired of your plain old keyboard but strapped for cash? Always wanted a Razer keyboard? Well, you are in luck then, as Razer has announced a new pair of keyboards, both spins on their Lycosa keyboard.

One of them is Arctosa, a stripped down model that retains the form factor, macro capabilities, anti-ghosting and response time of its big-brother model, all the while dumping the flashing bells and whistles like backlighting to achieve a price tag of $40.

The other keyboard is double that price, but swaps out the rubber coating of the Lycosa keyboard for a glossy, shiny approach, though everything else is the same under the hood.

Whichever one you want, the Arctosa is the cheapest you can get a Razer.

  • A really good ergonomic mouse is something hard to find these days, but Hippus has made that task easier by presenting the HandshoeMouse.

As you can see by the image the mouse has an awkward design, but in the end it becomes very comfortable to use because people can place their whole palm on it. According to Hippus and their extended research, the hand stays in a relaxed position, causing no harm if you use the mouse for long periods of time:

Only a minor contraction of the muscles of the fingers is required to operate switches and scroll wheel.

On traditional mouses users need to lift the fingers to work, but not with the Hippus HandshoeMouse.

Dell has recently launched its netbook line. The Inspiron Mini 9 entered the market a little late, but I am confident it will catch the competition soon. And Dell went ahead and made its netbook available with Linux OS but with a twist. If you want to choose Ubuntu 8.04 as your default operating system then you will automatically choose the 8GB SSD model. If you want more memory, better get a card or an external hard drive.

The Mini 9 Linux version costs £269 or $472 while the Windows XP version costs £299 or $525.

Windows XP was supposed to be officially discontinued starting with January 31, 2009. According to a leaked email from a PC OEM, Microsoft has decided to postpone the XP retirement. The new rumored date is July 31, 2009. That gives us a whole six extra months to buy XP instead of Vista. After that you will probably be more likely to choose the future Windows 7 instead of Vista. That’s a nice trick Microsoft is pulling. Especially since they are working hard on promoting Vista.

Kingston is ready for the next DDR RAM level. I am talking about DDR3 memory modules which are already shipping in the USA. The model you should be looking for is the HyperX from Kingston. They will be the fastest DDR3 made so far with speeds of 2GHz. The 2GB model will feature CL9-9-9-27 @ 1.9v and their price will start from $227.

I’d expect the competition to come up with similar DDR3 modules soon which will lead to a price decrease. Not that $227 is that expensive for the speed the new RAM promises.

PS Eye Works as PC Webcam

PSEye_image004 Tell the truth: just how much use did you get out of that overpriced PlayStation 3 webcam that the marketing druids call the “PlayStation Eye”? Not much, I guess.

Here to give you a reason not to throw that overpriced piece of plastic away, a bunch of programmers have come up with drivers for the PS3 Eye to make it operate as a standard webcam for your PC.

The PS Eye is actually a pretty good webcam, considering it pushes 60fps over USB 2.0, good wide viewing angle and low distortion, and more.

Be sure to wipe the dust off of it before you plug it in.

  • Iron Man in Your Next Dell PC

iron-man Marking the entry of Hollywood in PC manufacturing, Dell and Paramount Pictures have teamed up to allow consumers to preload Iron Man into newly purchased computers. This is the only film currently being offered, and consumers will be able to purchase it for an additional $20 on the price of their newly configured Dell computers.

"The key focus here is to lead off our slow immersion into content as a major piece of the puzzle in terms of what consumers want from a PC," said Rachna Bhasin, director of content for Dell’s global consumer group.

The movie will be preinstalled on Dell’s Inspiron, Studio and XPS laptop and desktop models. Surely crippled with DRM, consumers will be able to watch it on their computers, their TVs and burn one copy to DVD. Dell hopes to increase the selection of movies in the future.

Where is this world heading too? I mean sure netbooks are popular but eventually a better product will be created. When it comes to portable tiny computers I’m going to assume we’re going to have smaller and smaller laptops with possibly holographic LCDs. Leaving Sci-Fi gadgets aside , I really can’t understand why a person would choose to get a PC box like the Shuttle D10 ten which would have a 7 inch incorporated touchscreen LCD in it. Why not get one of the Eee clones available today? (more…)
