We are aware that there are a lot of foldable phones out there but it looks like Qualcomm has something up its sleeve. They have filed a new patent for a multi-fold mobile device which allows users to fold and unfold it resulting in a tablet-form like device.
The device features a processor that will execute at least one software application with a graphical interface and would respond to the folding configuration sensor. However, one fallback is that this device would be quite thick which may not really appeal to consumers going for smaller phones out in the market today. Give it time though as technology has a way to convert such things in transition.

The age of mobile phones has indeed become complex and for sure, the mechanical means of providing effective communication is something one would see in the past. But perhaps for the Celsius X VI II Remontage Papillon Phone, it is more of the design that becomes appealing rather than the mobile phone intent itself.
The Celsius X VI II carries a transparent look where you can see the mechanism operate. Influenced by the features of a tourbillion watch, this mechanical concept phone may not necessarily be ideal in today’s modern mobile phone age. A collector’s item would be the best thing this device could come but it doesn’t come cheap. Would you shell out $275,000 for a medieval running phone?

Tanja Shultz was once riding on a train, and there was a man sitting next to him who was blabbing his mouth off. I’ve ignored situations like this, but he wanted to do something about it.
So he worked with other researchers at Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, in order to find a system that can convert mouth motions into synthesized speech. In other words, you can carry on cellular phone conversations in public without anyone hearing you, unless people can read lips.
As you can see in the picture, it takes quite a few wires to get it to work now. This method of electromyography is designed to detect facial movements while chatting, and these pulse are transmitted to a device to record and amplify them, then sending them along to a laptop via Bluetooth.
Well, we shall see if this technology improves, and then we’ll all be talking and not talking at the same time.

I believe that Fujitsu and Asus have been working to create a frameless laptop, and this shot, taken from the DigiTimes, is Acer’s offering.
You will note that Acer’s concept device has a touchscreen keyboard. The screen is possible due to a reinforced glass substrate from Corning, which prints the colors directly to the back of the display.
So, is this the shape of things to come for laptops and netbooks? I guess that time will tell.

Man, those crazy concept stuff like this Rolltop. This OLED computer can roll up like scroll, and then be carried around like a purse.
The OLED screen gives the user the option of angling the screen up like a laptop or netbook and a QWERTY keyboard. The user can also use it like a tablet, and even stand it up like a digital picture frame. The roller itself serves as power supply, loudspeaker, webcam, and what looks like two USB ports.
I’m not certain when you’ll see someone at the coffee house with one of these, but it certainly looks quite great.

The Energy 888D certainly is one of the most unusual phones I’ve seen in a world of candybar touchscreens, QWERTY sliders, and clamshells.
My Source has very little details on this, so I assume that it is a concept for now. After all, how many phones do you know that have two-inch curvaceous displays like this one?
Well, let’s see if it is a hit.

The Qiao Sheng A45 cellphone is another one of those lesser known handsets which may probably be from China. It takes the shape of an alternative form factor and comes in a high lacquered finish. The display is capable of rotating at 180 degrees and can even be a make-up mirror as well.
After that last feature, the Qiao Sheng A45 mobile phone is undoubtedly targeted for the women. Additional features include a 2.2” mirror touch screen display and a 3MP camera.

The MorphPad is designed to combine a keypad and touchscreen together, and you can watch the video to see how well they can work in sync.
Not only do you have a typical QWERTY keyboard, but it can transform into a numeric keypad, game controller, or media player. The entire keyboard can also be a trackpad if the user prefers.
This MorphPad is under development from Pelikon, but there is no word on when it will come out. My Source says that the company is working with Toshiba on various projects.

Apple seems to be up to something new after they curiously filed for a Magic Trackpad trademark. Nothing much has been shared on this new trademark though you may want to link it to the multi-touch trackpad gadget for MACS back in October.
There is no clear relationship for now but if you want to sum it all up, that is the closest you can get for now. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

This is one of the most interesting looking MP3 Players that I have seen in a while. Granted, it is only a concept by designers Jun Pyo Kim, Keun Sol Kim, Sung Mi Kang, and Joo Hee Park, but it uses origami for its inspiration.
To play your tunes, you simply fold into a triangle (universal signal for play). To stop it, fold it into a square (universal signal for stop). There is even a folding for fast forward with two triangles.
Just when you thought that you’ve seen everything as far as MP3 Players go.

What you see here is a little informal chat with Jo Harlow, the SVP of Nokia smartphones, and discusses some intriguing new developments for the future.
For example, the use of augmented reality with Ovi Maps, and the possibility of incorporating 3D to mobiles. In fact, the possibility of having mobile 3D even before it is perfected for the television.
Sounds like the future is bright.

This next device is purely concept, but the Sound Scape has an inbuilt LED projector beaming visuals out to a tabletop.
So, if you’re looking at wanting more visuals with your tunes, then you might want to look into this, when it eventually comes on sale, but who knows when that will be?

Aava Mobile has unveiled something interesting at the MWC 2010 with the reported first fully open mobile devices. The designs of these devices are similar to those of computers and are based on the Intel Atom Moorestown platform.
These new devices will reportedly be 11.7mm thick and catered to accommodate Moblin 2.1 and Android operating systems. Among the features include an extended touch screen, full HD video capability, HD video conferencing and 3D sound. It will also come with GPS, WiFi and an accelerometer. Quite a crop of features for a thin make!

Texas Instruments has unveiled a weird looking mobile device over at the MWC and this was the TI 4600 series concept. It makes use of a dual-display concept, one for content and the other for controls and information.
Though we are seeing a lot of multi-touch mobile devices in the market today, this is one device whose functionality is seen as a selling point by Texas Instruments. The primary can reportedly be connected to a big TV through HDMI as well. Let’s see where Texas Instruments is going with this mobile concept.

Intuitive has an idea for a concept smartphone that is very interesting. It is essentially a phone that can somehow predict what applications that you will use, and display them before you even ask for them. For example, if your built in GPS detects that you are traveling, it will ask you if you need directions, and show up before you ask for them.
Well, this certainly ends the reign of the static cell phone screen that tells the time, but wouldn’t this eat up more power? I’d like to see if this ever gets around to being perfected, and possibly on Android phones.

This next piece of mobile technology is something that I definitely want in my home. I don’t know if it is mobile per se, but its mobile in the sense that it transports easily to every room in the house.
This is the gesture cube, named because of the mostly gesture-based interfaces. As you can see from the video, those gestures come in really handy with its five screens. By the way, when you move the Gesture Cube to another room, it automatically hibernates.
Well, it is concept tech for now, but you have to love it, don’t you?

This USB peripheral are for those that wished that vinyl records had never “gone out” in the eighties. It is a way of playing an LP without a turntable.
As you can see, the vinyl disc is stuck in between the two arms, and it will be sandwhiched there as it spins. The user can then adjust the arm to the proper track.
This device is still a concept, but it is certainly the best way to play a record using a computer.

The Lotta is not really a mobile phone that one would entrust to a child. Rather, the Lotta is considered playful, thanks mainly to its colors. This is a flap phone from Ichiro Iwasaki which does offer something new. Apparently it is a concept design and now all that remains to be seen is seeing this phone applied and released in the market.
