Android Market Coming Soon?

Google is going to give Apple a run for its money. Like Apple’s App Store for the iPhone 3G and the iPhone touch, Google is going to have an Android Market which will be very similar. Future owners of Android devices will be able to purchase, download and install various applications from the Android Market.

T-Mobile is going to bring us the HTC Dream, the first Android cell phone but more are going to follow in 2009. That means the Android Market is going to have a guaranteed success and it might surpass in downloads the Apple App Store.

We don’t know any official dates for now but since the announcement has already been made we should assume things are going to be up and running soon.

HTC Dream Pictures and Prices

HTC’s first Android device, the Dream has been widely discussed these last couple of weeks. While we’re still waiting to see if a September release will be possible, we got more pictures and details of the upcoming device.

What do you think about the image above? Does it look real enough to you? Is it extremely photoshopped? We sure need more details than that.

But there are rumored pricing options for the HTC Dream. A new customer choosing a 2 year contract will get the phone for $199.99. A new customer choosing a 1 year contract will pay $249.99. A full upgrade with a 2 year contract will cost $217.99 while a 1 year contract will cost $267.99. A partial upgrade will get you the handset for $367.99.

If you pre-order a full upgrade with a 2 year contract you will pay $167.99 while a pre-order with only 1 year will cost you $217.99. A pre-order with a partial upgrade gets you the phone for $317.99. If you want to pay the full $399 you will get the phone without a contract.

But these are just rumors

  • Finally, and might I say unexpectedly, the day when a T-Mobile’s official would confirm its first Android device has arrived.

Not exactly a gPhone, but certainly an iPhone competitor, T-Mobile’s Android handset has been discussed all over the internet lately. But now we have something real, an official statement and not just rumors. (more…)

  • Samsung Tocco From T-Mobile

Samsung%20SGH-F480.jpgT-Mobile is getting ready to launch the Samsung F480 Tocco in the near future. While there’s no info on pricing and availability yet we know it’s going to be quite a phone. And it’s a 3G handset which will definitely come in handy if you’re under T-Mobile 3G coverage. There’s GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, but no front camera for video calls. (more…)

Here’s the kind of news I foresaw a few days ago while watching the rumored HTC’s Android powered Dream video. Only that I wasn’t expecting it to arrive so soon. It appears that T-Mobile will start presales for the Dream on September 17th and open sales on September 24th. Named conveniently the G1, I guess Google1 was to long, the Dream will be priced $150 or $399. (more…)

T-Mobile has announced the availability of the Nokia XpressMusic 5610 on their network. The latest in the XpressMusic line from the Finnish manufacturer isn’t exactly new, given that it has been available in other markets since October, but this should be the first time it’s officially appearing on the American scene. This 5310 upgrade has all the features that the XpressMusic 5310 was liked for and adds a bit more to the same slider form factor, albeit shedding a bit of weight in the process. Keeping in mind that music is its forte, the XpressMusic 5610 carries over everything from the 5310 including dedicated music controls and adds an innovative “music slider” located below the 2.2-inch TFT display for quick access to music player and radio. The camera has also been bettered to a 3.2-megapixel lens from 2-mpx lamer on the 5310 along with dual-LED flash and 20MB internal memory with further expansion via microSD slot (1GB card included in the package). The battery can last for up to an impressive 22 hours of music playback, 6 hours of talktime, and 320 hours in standby mode. The only thing missing is 3G, with speeds topping out at EDGE, but that shouldn’t stop any music lover if they are really inclined to get one of these. Available on T-Mobile now for $99 on a two-year contract in colors of black with red lining and white with silver.

Apple’s App Store for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch has proven to be a great idea. Unlike MobileMe, the App Store became quite popular as developers starting to create all sorts of useful and not so useful application over the past month.

Well apparently T-Mobile has witnessed all that and wants to create a similar App Store. It’s rumored that T-Mobile is preparing a platform for developers to release their applications to T-Mobile customers.

So let me see if I got this right. T-Mobile wants developers to create Java, Windows Mobile and maybe Symbian applications which would be sold over an iTunes like platform? Would that be possible with the current lack of 3G support from T-Mobile? Imagine downloading T-Mobile applications without any 3G coverage. And how will T-Mobile motivate developers to choose their App Store over what Apple has?

We’re going to get answers in time. So far, this is just an unconfirmed rumor.

HTC is the only manufacturer that has an Android device in the works for later this year. While others have postponed their handsets to 2009, HTC was working hard on delivering an Android cell phone by the end of 2008. More people are suspecting that the future phone will be sold through T-Mobile, the only carrier that has announced an Android phone by the year’s end.

Despite all that, analyst Trip Chowdhry from Global Equities Research said that both technical and minimum payment issues will affect a 2008 release and HTC will postpone it to early next year? HTC denied it all saying their phone will be released this fall.

What do you think? Is HTC going to deliver on time or delay the official release of the first Android phone?

Since T-Mobile is going 3G in about 27 markets or so besides their already launched New York 3G network, it’s no surprise they will start to bring in more 3G capable phones in the near future.

One such phone is Sony Ericsson’s TM506 which is 3G ready. It will be available around September 3rd for a price to decided later on. The TM506 is a mid range phone with no special characteristics other than the 3G support. Here are some of TM506’s features:

    • 2.0 megapixel camera
    • Tri-band 850/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE
    • Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 1700/2100
    • Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP connectivity
    • microSD memory card slot
    • Video recording capability
    • Instant Messaging support.

Just as promised, T-Mobile has launched the vividly colored BlackBerry Curve Sunset on its network today. The promo (pictured above) shows it to look a little more alluring than the spy shot we had brought you earlier, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. The innards are still the same as any other Curve 8320 already available, so have no doubt that this will sport the same features like WiFi and HotSpot@Home among other RIM standard features. Available starting today at $149.99 with a two-year agreement from T-Mobile.

After the quandary it had been facing over the past few months about the title for Danger’s newest device, T-Mobile has finally decided to simply call it Sidekick. That’s right, forget Gekko, 2008, and anything else you might have heard about what it was going to be called. But the name is the only thing that sounds plain here, as the new Sidekick has many improvements over the previous versions including user-customizable shells that can be obtained for $14.99 at sidekickshells.com, while the downgraded 2.6-inch WQVGA display might be a letdown for people used to the 3-incher on the Sidekick LX. Other features include:

    • 400 x 240 WQVGA display
    • 2 megapixel camera
    • Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
    • microSD card expansion
    • 2.6-inch display

The new Sidekick is available now for just $150 with a two-year contract on T-Mobile.

According to a few T-Mobile leaked shots, the Sidekick 2008 will be released just in a couple of weeks, on July 30th. What is a Sidekick 2008? What? You haven’t heard of it? What about the Sidekick Gekko? The Sidekick Gekko is the Sidekick 2008. A weird name since it’s going to be released almost in August.

Samsung Omnia to Launch in Germany

Samsung Omnia along with the already launched Instinct are two of the most awaited phones this year. The SGH-i900 Omnia will be released in Germany this summer.

Lucky Germans will get the Omnia from August 6th. Without a plan, the already announced price for the 8GB version is 649 Euro or $1032. Whatever carrier you might prefer to chose in Germany, it will offer the Omnia/ All four German carriers, T-Mobile, Vodafone, E-Plus and O2 will get ready to sell this latest Samsung release. T-Mobile and Vodafone are reported to already have it on display while O2 has already confirmed a launch in a previous press release.

    3G iPhone Plans in Austria

With less than a day to July 11th, the day the 3G iPhone hits the stores, we have more news about iPhone pricing and plans across the world. It’s time for taking a look at Austria where T-Mobile is selling the iPhone. Apparently T-Mobile isn’t going to change that much the already existing plans for the iPhone.

The Classic plan has 1,000 calling time to any mobile carrier network, 3GB of data, visual voicemail and free WiFi where available for just $55 per month for the first 10,000 customers. After that the plan goes to $61 per month. That’s what I call a promising plan. The iPhone will cost $234 or $360 depending on what model you choose.

The Supreme plan has 1,000 calling time to any mobile carrier network, 3GB of data, visual voicemail and free WiFi where available for just $71 for the first 10,000 users. After that the plan goes to the regular $86. You get extra 1,000 SMS messages per month and you can make call at no cost to any kind of network. The iPhone will cost either $156 or $281, depending on version.

All in all these seem to be really good plans. Plenty of voice minutes and data for T-Mobile’s customers here.

  • We’ve heard in June how an Android device isn’t going to be ready by the end of the year, with most carriers and cell phone manufacturers postponing an Android handset release to 2009. We’ve also heard a few days ago how T-Mobile is preparing to offer full 3G coverage in about 27 markets starting this fall. Now we have another rumor on our hands about Android and T-Mobile.

We’ve seen how T-Mobile launched their US 3G network in New York. Followed by that we had rumors saying that Chicago is the next big city in line to get 3G from T-Mobile. It was about to happen to. After all, AT&T has a large 3G network and it’s continuously expanding it. Alltel is upgrading their EVDO Rev. A and adding more markets as we speak. Why shouldn’t T-Mobile go 3G nationwide?

Word on the street is that indeed, T-Mobile is considering launching their 3G network nationwide starting October 1st. How do you like this rumor? According to what sources say, T-Mobile is going to offer 3G support in 27 major cities. Well I for one would like to know more about this. After all there must be some signs pointing to this. You know, like lots of T-Mobile engineers working around the clock to offer 3G coverage in those 27 markets? I mean, all that work must go on for quite a while and it will surely get noticed. So should you happen to see those people in pink suits, make sure you take a couple of pictures too!

It’s always fun to compare cell phone plans between different continents, especially when we are talking about the same device. And when the device is the 3G iPhone, a handset everyone keeps buzzing about, we simply have to report plans and prices when we hear about them. We are going to take a quick look at iPhone plans in Denmark and the Netherlands.

A while back ago T-Mobile turned on their 3G network in New York. And you must remember that it was quite a fuss about it. We weren’t sure if T-Mobile was launching their 3G network for voice calls only, with 3G data to be added later or if they were going to offer full 3G support for voice and data. Only when the New York 3G network finally went live we received confirmation that T-Mobile had a regular, fully working network, offering better voice calls and higher data transfer speeds.

Now we hear that T-Mobile is going to launch a Metropolitan Chicago 3G network. That’s great, they should be expending and improving. After all, AT&T has been working to deploy full HSPA 3G support before the iPhone hit the stores; Alltel is upgrading its EVDO network and launching it in other US markets. But how did they manage to keep it a secret for so long. No memo leaks, no secret sources to unveil this secret?

We’ll see tomorrow if all this is real or not.
