While Palm is relying on its future Pre to take it out of its misery, Sony Ericsson doesn’t have any hot phone coming soon. And the company isn’t doing that well either in terms of money making out of its cellphone business. First quarter of the year sales for Sony Ericsson have dropped 50%. That means a loss of around $500 million which is about double the loss of the quarter before. Let’s face it here, Sony Ericsson don’t have phones appealing to the average people going through this recession. What will happen when Ericsson will leave the partnership?

A change of color and continent has made this T610 successor eligible for a place on O2’s cell phone lineup.  We know it was a long time ago when we told you about the T700 but let’s just say that it is a candy bar that sports quad-band GSM/HSDPA network support, a 240×320 QVGA display, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and IMAP/POP email capabilities, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and Stereo Bluetooth with some music playing capabilities, wrapped in a new attractive red and gold packing.

The Sony Ericsson T700 Rouge is available now in O2 stores across the UK and can also be bought online via O2’s website.

Sony Ericsson Twiggy leaked

We have seen many a leak come from different sources, but this one is special.  Seems like Sony Ericsson has unwittingly revealed a new cell phone in their ad campaign promoting the MS500 wireless speaker and guess what it’s called? Another lady-like name just as the previous codenames we have heard for most unreleased Sony Ericsson handsets of course, and this one is called Twiggy.  We don’t have much to go on now except for an indication that the Twiggy is to be the successor for the already available W350 Walkman phone, but something tells us we’ll know more about it before the month is up and if that happens, MW will keep you posted.

Last year we’ve heard various rumors saying that Sony and Ericsson will part ways. That hasn’t happened yet but it looks like something will definitely going to change. Ericsson wants out of the cell phone business and Sony if fine with it. In fact Sony will buy Ericsson’s share and continue on its own. So how do you like this new rumor? No official statements have been made yet so we’re still looking for confirmation for this one.

Outdoor Wireless Speaker MS500

With this new accessory from Sony Ericsson, let the world hear what you are listening to. While there are other types of speakers some people use, nothing beats getting an authentic one from Sony Ericsson.

Available in trendy orange and black or chic white and pink the MS500 speaker is the ultimate accessory for any dedicated pop rocker or dancing queen - small enough to fit into the palm of a hand and so light it can be taken anywhere and everywhere.

The MS500 speaker is designed for the outdoor environment with a durable splash proof shell and a handy strap which makes it perfect for attaching to a bag, or hanging from the wrist. This makes it an ideal outdoor accessory for everyday use and ensures your music will still be heard loud and proud.

The Bluetooth technology enables your phone to be used as a remote control to change tracks and increase volume, allowing you to just sit back and relax with music without the need to move. Simply connect the speaker to any mobile handset within a 10 meter range and in just seconds hear your favorite songs blast out, with clear treble and rich bass.

The Outdoor Wireless Speaker MS500 is compatible with most Bluetooth phones from Sony Ericsson and other brands.

The country which sees some of the best tech we envy before us seems to be the farthest on Sony Ericsson’s mind, at least when it comes to releasing its flagship Xperia X1 smartphone.  SK Telecom will be the lucky carrier to play mama to this multimedia monster, but are those tech-savvy Koreans really that eager to get their hands on it, considering the kind of Korean gadgets that we hear and see in pictures from time to time? The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 isn’t available here in the States too, but who cares when have the iPhone 3.0 to look forward to, huh?

AT&T to Launch Lots of Phones Soon

Looking for a new phone? AT&T is getting ready to launch quite a few of them and we’re ready to take look at them.

Nokia Piranha will be launched on March 24th. It’s a “thin smartphone with a touchscreen” so it’s either the 5800 XpressMusic but it could also be the E71x without the touchscreen thing.

The Samsung Propel Pro will arrive on March 19 while the Impression, a touchscreen slider, 3 megapixel camera will come on March 26. The last of the future AT&T Samsung handsets is the BJ 2 and it will arrive on May 9.

AT&T will launch the LG Xenon on April 9 and the Neon of May 9. June 9 will see one more handset coming, the C905 from Sony Ericsson. And you know what other phone is coming on June right?

Now, here’s something that could become quite popular when it hits the streets.  A couple of pictures were seen floating around the planet-se forums showing a Sony Ericsson-branded mobile speaker with a W995 sitting snug on top it.  The speaker seems pretty small in comparison to the W995, but the MS-410 might gain some fans just because of its diminutive size that could go into anyone’s pocket right next to their favorite Walkman phone.

No information on price or a release date, but we are sure Sony Ericsson is already prepping one.

Sony Ericsson Idou Gets a Stylus

Sony Ericsson’s Idou is a 12 megapixel camera phone which might make an impression once it arrives. The handset will be a great tool for both mobile entertainment and fast communication and it looks like Sony Ericsson has prepared a Stylus which seems destined to go with the handset. Sony Ericsson hasn’t made it clear if the stylus will be bundled with the Idou or if you will have to get it separately. But it’s good to know that we’ll have an alternative to our fingers to control this device.

  • The Athena is on its track and we’re waiting for it to be released in Q3 this year. And it might not be called the Athena after all so make sure you check for the Sony Ericsson S312 once it gets released. We don’t have all the details so far but we should expect the Athena to be an entry- to mid-level phone. We have no prices for you just yet but stick around and we will deliver.

A Samsung 12 megapixel camera phone has been rumored just before MWC but we haven’t seen it yet. What we’ve seen at MWC was a Sony Ericsson able to shoot 12 megapixel pictures. LG seems also interested in developing such a camera phone and it’s said to be working on it already.

LG Mobile’s head of marketing in the UK says that LG has the 12 megapixel camera phone in the works:

We’ll very much be releasing a 12MP cameraphone. However, it’s important that people realize when taking 12MP images, they’ll be using huge amounts of data, and it will be more difficult to do things like send such files.

Question is, do we really need that many megapixels in our camera phone? Shouldn’t we be buying real cameras with real camera features if we want really professional photos?

  • When news of the Hikaru came out some days ago, this was actually the code name for the latest powerhouse multimedia phone by Sony Ericsson. Today that codename has been decoded and given the proper model name in the Sony Ericsson W995. This new phone aims to combine cyber-shot technology with the Walkman and become one of the high-end handsets for the company.

“With Media Go™ there’s no need to worry about format, resolution and ‘frame per second’ anymore.” said Alexandre Cardon, Global Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson. “No longer will the video you transferred from your PC to your phone play in low resolution or bad quality. With Media Go™ and the W995 the experience is as good on your phone as it was on your PC.”

“The W995 Walkman™ phone brings together the very best music experiences of any phone, augments this with best in class video and sharing capabilities to offer the most complete communication entertainment package to date.” said Alexandre Cardon. “This powerful mobile phone delivers the best possible video resolution that can fit in your pocket and with enough battery stamina to watch two full length feature films. The W995 also comes complete with the award winning clear audio experience and an 8.1 megapixel camera for the highest quality picture and sound available in a mobile phone.”

This promises to be a fantastic addition to Sony Ericsson’s portfolio. An 8 megapixel camera, Clear Audio experience, 2.6-inch screen and Wi-Fi in one package makes this phone truly awesome. The phone will ship during Q2 this year in the colours Cosmic Silver, Energetic Red, and Progressive Black.

  • Sony Ericsson Reese On Its Way?

The swivel phone in the picture here is a Sony Ericsson new handset. But is it the Reese? Will we see it at the MWC?

The Reese comes with “a unique swivel design reveals a QWERTY keypad below the large portrait screen which allows you to view several messages of any one kind in high definition. It also comes with one-click access to your favorite networking sites. So now it’s never been easier to keep up with your mates.”

We don’t have all the details about the Reese but we’re counting on Sony Ericsson to announce it at the MWC.

It was only a matter of time until Nokia released its own 8 megapixel camera phone. The Finish company will announce the new phone at the MWC in Spain. The photo above appeared on Nokia’s site as it was taken with the deice. It’s a 3264 x 2448 pixels shot or an 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens. How will the phone look like? We have no idea yet but we’re count on it to fight against Samsung’s and Sony Ericsons’ current 8 megapixel camera phones.

Well, well, what we thought to be a mid-range Cybershot phone might have a trick up its sleeve after all.  We already know about its 3.2 megapixel camera, 2.2-inch QVGA display, accelerometer, and that nifty YouTube upload feature, but what we missed the last time is the direct integration of Facebook in the Sony Ericsson C510, a first for any cell phone right now.  According to mobile.se, once it is installed and launched, the Facebook app will be able to retrieve relevant data from Facebook and provide features like viewing friends’ status, photos, the user’s groups, and also directly upload a picture to the user’s Facebook account.

Go here to watch Facebook Mobile in action (Swedish) or you could wait till this coming Sunday, when Sony Ericsson and Facebook will reportedly go public during a press conference in Barcelona.
