Sony Ericsson’s new HGE-100 looks just like your regular hands-free acessory. It actually doubles as a GPS add-on accessory which enables satellite navigation and sport monitoring on compatible Sony Ericsson phones. Just simply plug the small, compact device into the phone’s connector and you should be ready to get out and explore. The software will provide navigation voice and text commands to help you find your way. Another nifty features is it’s ability to use the GPS Enabler as a “personal trainer”. The HGE-100 GPS Enabler will be available in the Q3 of 2007 near a retail price of ?70.

This is not a true converged device, but it’s close. The new Sony Ericsson K530 cell phone and its companion the HGE-100 GPS Enabler combine to form a useful navigation system.
The idea behind the separate phone attachment seems to do more with battery life than anything else: just plug in the HGE-100 when you need, and your battery lasts a bit longer. But the HGE-100 goes beyond that: it also acts as the phone’s stereo headset.
The K530 phone itself is available in a slim 14mm package. A 3G phone, you can conveniently browse the web on it. The 2″ screen leaves a little to be desired, as does the 2 megapixel camera with 2.5x digital zoom.
The phone supports Java games. You can also buy music with the PlayNow service. For additional entertainment, there’s an FM radio on-board. Both the K530 and HGE-100 are expected in Q3 2007.

Ever since its launch way back in may the headset has garnered some attention. Sony Ercisson’s new DS980 quite easily goes into ‘must have’ list. It is one headset which definitely makes listening to music and taking calls a quality experience. Designed stylishly it delivers a thump in your ears when listening to the music and at the same time gives a crystal clear voice when you are making and listening to calls. The headset gets Sony’s trademark ‘in-ear-phone’ design and also they’ve incorporated a Digital noise cancellation/echo reduction technology to reduce background noise.
The Charcoal casing and the hidden OLED display go hand in hand and makes for quite an impressive package. That apart, the AFH(Adaptive Frequency Hopping) reduces the impact of interference between wireless technologies, resulting in excellent audio quality. Another interesting feature is the Automatic volume adjustment, which adjusts volume automatically as soon as you walk into a noisy environment in less than a second. Other features include Auto pairing and Talk/standby/music time of 6/300/6 hours.
No word on the pricing and availability as yet. The caption “coming soon” is still visible in the Sony Ericsson website.

Sony Ericsson unveiled the new W53S cell phone in Japan. Available in, umm, interesting colors, the W53S is compliant with CDMA 1x allowing you to surf the web easily, as well as access email.
Featuring a 2.7″ LCD display and 16:9 full wide display, you can easily see large photos. The W53S boasts a new +JOG operation. My Japanese is a bit rusty (well, non-existent truth be told), so from what I can make it, it’s a revolutionary interface that’s going to be the new wave of the future (but don’t quote me on that).
There are hundreds of Style-Up panels allowing you to customize the phone to your needs. In addition to BREW 4 apps, you can enjoy Java apps and games.

The Sony Ericsson W660i Walkman Phone got the FCC’s nod. Get ready for this sweet little 3G phone, which we saw only a few weeks ago on The Whack.
The W660i comes with a 512MB memory stick micro (M2), allowing you to store as many as 470 songs (eAAC+ format). Memory is expandable to 1GB which means you can’t throw away your iPod just yet. Even otherwise, it’s got some neat features packed, including Bluetooth stereo support.
Thanks to the Track ID support on the phone, if you don’t recognize a particular song playing on its FM receiver, you can record a few seconds of it, and the Track ID feature will send the clip to Gracenote Mobile MusicID database. Once identified, the song info is sent back to your phone.
No word on the pricing, but it should hit the streets soon.
