It was just a rumor a few days ago, but now here we are, feasting our eyes upon the the new Sony Ericsson G-series handsets. Although featuring identical features to the G700, the G900 offers additional features, one of which is the 5-megapixel touch auto-focus camera. By “touch auto-focus,” it means focusing the camera would take a simple tap at the touch screen. Aside from having the touch auto-focus feature, the G900 also boasts the Camera Multi-Shot function which allows you to take multiple pics at the single press of the trigger. Aside from the basic organizer the G700 has, this higher-end handset also features a photo album and photo editor as well as mobile internet via Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connection. Codename Tyra turned out to be a cool handset. Just like the G700, the Sony Ericsson G900 cell phone will be available on the second quarter of 2008.

In light of the opening of the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson has announced numerous new handsets. One of which is the Sony Ericsson G700 cell phone which puts focus on organization just like their cybershot series focuses on images. The Sony Ericsson G700 GSM phone has a 2.4-inch display and a 3.2-megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom. It has one-touch organizer functions and a very simple touch-screen user-interface which makes navigation a cakewalk (i.e., touch a contact’s name on screen and view the contact options available). For me, however, the feature which most appealed was the touch-controlled Notes application. You can scribble on a note on the phone using your stylus and post it on the phone’s screen like a digital post-it! Other thanthat, the G700 features Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a calendar, and a media player. The Silk Bronze Sony Ericsson G700 cell phone will be out in the market on the second quarter of 2008.

While the C702 strayed a bit with its GPS functionality, the C902 cell phone stays true to the Cybershot name focusing more on its camera capabilities. Within its sleek and slim form factor, the C902 houses a 5-megapixel camera with Face Detection, Auto Focus, Photo Flash, and BestPic technology, which enables shooting up to 9 pictures in quick succession. On the music side, it’s not that different from the C702 with Mega Bass, TrackID, FM Radio, and music tones. The Access NetFront browser seems to be becoming the standard browser for all upcoming Sony Ericsson devices along with RSS feed support, as was the case with the Sony Ericsson’s recent K series and W Series phones.
Like the C702, the Sony Ericsson C902 is slated for a mid-2008 release.

Surprise! Surprise! Meet the first ever Windows Mobile-powered Sony Ericsson. Already a leader in Symbian UIQ devices, it looks like SE wants the best of both worlds by adding the Xperia XP1, which works on Windows Mobile 6. Making its debut at the Mobile World Congress, the phone isn’t shabby at all with a 3-inch VGA (yep, not QVGA!) touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480 , a full QWERTY keypad, and a new tile-like interface called “Xperia Panels.” Sony Ericsson has tried to cover all the bases with quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network support (900 or 850 and 1700/1900/2100 MHz), WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth with A2DP, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The arc-sliding QWERTY looks really cool and there is a 4-way navigation key and an optical joystick to complement the touchscreen.
With all these features, the Sony Ericsson Xperia XP1 will definitely not be cheap when it hits the stores in the second half of 2008. More pictures and details after the break.

Sony Ericsson has released two new AM/FM-centric cell phones mainly for the “emerging markets” around the world. The R300 and R306 Radio, a candybar and a clamshell, both look exceptionally good with even the looks built around the radio to “deliver a credible radio-listening experience.” The two models have dedicated loudspeakers for the radio (stereo on R306 Radio) and preset channel buttons to enable easy switching between radio channels. Among other radio-specific features are 3D sound, volume boost, and the ability to set radio as alarm clock and record a clip if you fancy. The 300 Radio GSM/GPRS phone also sports a VGA camera while the R306 is bettered to a 1.3-megapixel camera with the other features remaining similar. There is also TrackID, which can identify your music, a common feature among higher-end Sony Ericsson phones.
The R300 Radio will launch in Antique Copper and Steel Black colors, available starting in the second quarter of 2008 with the R306 Radio in Coffee Black and Champagne White. No info on pricing yet though.

Don’t get your hopes up, the K850i will STILL be black. However, the trimmings at the sides will be changed from the erstwhile two editions, Velvet Blue and Luminous Green, into silver. The name of the new K850i release is the Quicksilver (how apt). Aside from the impending K850i Quicksilver Black release, Sony Ericsson is also reportedly releasing a firmware upgrade for the K850i to fix little buggies causing errors as well as to improve its performance.

Take a look at this interesting concept phone brewed up by Muhammad Oli of the Esato Forum, the Sony Ericsson W520i. If you’ve forgotten, tennis superstar Maria Sharapova used to be the endorser of Motorola for the magenta RAZR and the white PEBL. Sharapova has apparently jumped ship to become the new ambassador of Sony Ericsson. Sharapova has signed a four year contract with the company which includes being proactive in designing Sony Ericsson’s future handsets and accessories aside from doing brand promotions.
“It is really exciting to be working with a cool brand like Sony Ericsson which has such a strong reputation in the entertainment industry,” Maria Sharapova said. “Even though most people know me as a tennis player, I have so many passions beyond the sport like fashion, music, film and design; which Sony Ericsson and I are going to be exploring together through our partnership.”
Maria sure keeps getting richer by the minute.
