If you still refer to Bruce Springsteen as “The Boss” or own more than one album of Mr. Mister, it means you are still stuck in the 80s and we have got just the thing for you (if you live in South Korea that is). Samsung has announced a Memories Special version of their popular YP-P3 portable media player that bundles 500 tracks from the 70s-80s era, courtesy of Mnet. The player itself gets few changes other than a modified UI to house the larger icons, karaoke support, and the ability to organize songs based on the user’s mood and will cost 279,000 Won ($232) when it is released in November. And no, we don’t know if it comes loaded with Y.M.C.A.

As if there aren’t enough devices slapped with that cute little face already, news has now come in that the Touch Star, which recently crossed its 5-million mark in sales, will fall prey to the pink-bowed feline. But rest assured that the S5230 remains unaffected on the inside and carries the same 3-inch touchscreen display, microSD support, 3.2 megapixel camera, and widget support with the same aplomb. Luckily, the Hello Kitty version of the Samsung Star will be available only in Belgium going for 169 Euros (a little over $248), but you never know where the Kitty might turn up next!

Windows Mobile 6.5 devices are slated to hit store shelves early next month and it seems that Samsung’s next-gen OmniaPRO will be their debut WinMo 6.5 device. However, this does not mean previous generation Omnias, namely the OmniaPRO B7610, B7320 and Omnia II, in addition to soon to be released OmniaLite, will be left in the dust.
All of the above mentioned phones will in fact be getting their operating systems updated to Windows Mobile 6.5 when the OmniaPRO B7330 hits store shelves early next month.

The Samsung Instict HD that was spotted a few months ago, during August, has received a few updates regarding its details: according to phonedog the cellphone will have a price tag between $100 and $150 and the release date is set for a couple of weeks - September 27 - but we’re not sure this is correct because it isn’t official.
In case you don’t remember, the Instict HD (high definition phone) is suppose to record in HD format, comes with a touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and a 5-megapixel camera with TV out function. I guess these are good details until the official word gets out…

If you happen to own an Omnia i900 phone from Samsung then you might be one of those lucky fellows that can honestly say they have taken a peak at Samsung’s upcoming Application Store. Unfortunately you’d have to go the UK, Italy or France as that’s where the store has been made available so far.
The store offers so far about 300 paid apps and lots of free apps ready to be installed on your Samsung phones. By the end of the year Samsung will have around 2,000 apps in the store. It’s not too much, but it’s a healthy start. Besides the i900, the Omnia II I8000 and the Omnia LTE B7300 will also get support for accessing the new Application Store. Anyone excited about the new app store?

Sprint has a new cellphone on their catalogue codenamed M330, and it is made by Samsung. The basic cellphone has a good characteristic during this time of crisis - it costs zero after rebate if you opt for a contract - can’t get any better.
As for the technical specifications of the M330, it measures 3.7×1.7×0.6 and the battery life lasts approximately 6 hours in talking mode. The slider cellphone has a camera with 4x digital zoom, includes bluetooth, SMS, Sprint Picture Mail and a couple more features that make it a basic (but good) mobile device.
More details at the Sprint Website.

A lot of phone geeks (especially the women who love the color Pink) would love to be in Belgium these days. Apparently Samsung is set to unveil a limited edition Samsung Star S5230 which will be known there as the Samsung Star Think Pink. And as you would guess, the color of the phone is what makes it a limited edition, something you may not see in the market today.
The pink color is in support for Think Pink Belgium. For every phone purchase of this limited edition Samsung Star Think Pink handset, 10 EUROS will be donated to them. But if you are wondering about the features, don’t get your hopes up. It is still the same Samsung Star S5230 that has features like a 3” touch screen display, TouchWiz user interface, 3.2 megapixel camera and the usual Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.
The Samsung Star Think Pink will retails for about 149 EUROS and is available until December.

Samsung Electronics unveils another mobile handset in the Samsung S5500E Lydford, an eco-slider phone encased in a blue casing with special eco features. First off, the phone and packaging (made of recycled paper and soy ink) is made from recycled materials.

Add to that the fact that unlike most phones, the Samsung S5500E Lydford even comes with an alarm that alerts you when the battery is full during charging times. This feature is a great highlight considering that most people today we want to save on energy. Also, this helps in preserving battery life and keep it from being overcharged.

For the standard feature of the Samsung S5500E Lydford, it has a 2.2” QWVGA screen, a 3 megapixel camera and of course the eco-sliding keyboard. No word yet on the date of release and pricing for the Samsung S5500E Lydford eco-slider handset.

No, it’s not the Windows phone that made news back in February but a slider model numbered SCH-W820/SPH-W8200 that’s prettied up by Giorgio Armani. But the W820’s features more than make up for the lack of WM6.5, with a 3.1-inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA network speeds, Bluetooth, and a T-DMB tuner and tells the world that it is an Armani phone with the designer’s logo slapped prominently on to its bezel and a gold side plate to complement the whole package. The device seems headed for a place on South Korea’s KTF and SKT carriers, but there are no details on what it costs or whether this will ever break out of the Korean realm.

The B3410 may not be the smartest phone on the block, but when it comes to messaging, the QWERTY-toting slider does seem equipped to hold its fort. Caught at the IIt measures a thin 15.9mm and crams a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, what could be a 3.2 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth. The phone will run Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface, but that’s not new. What’s new is a preinstalled app called BT Messenger, which can bounce messages back and forth with other Bluetooth-enabled devices in its vicinity, which is a cool feature and bound to save a lot of money when sending/receiving messages in your classroom. No details on pricing or availability, but we’ll let you know when those details emerge.

Samsung Electronics may be busy releasing new mobile phones and OLED TVs but if rumors are true, we may yet see another first from them in the form of OLED laptops by 2010. As we all know, OLED technology has been the rave of the people for the past months and should this same technology be used in future laptops under the Samsung brand, you can bet that many techies are going to love it.
Imagine thinner frames, longer battery life and perhaps further reducing the weight of laptops are just some of the things that a Samsung OLED laptop would carry. And considering that they are one of the largest OLED manufacturers in the world, the probability of seeing these new concept laptops from Samsung is not impossible. If it does push through, expect a new wave of demand for this new feature, something that their competitors are bound to be studying as we speak.

So, Her Majesty’s subjects will finally get to enjoy the Galaxy’s 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps speeds, its 5-megapixel camera, GPS receiver, and of course, Google’s Android!

What you see above is the first ever Open Market Handset compliant cellphone from Samsung entitled the Mpower 699.
Asyou can see, the phone is nothing special featuring a simple slide out keypad and other basic features but the real gem is the included U-RIM slot that allows for use on any Indian CDMA carrier and the fact that it retails for about $145.
Luckily, for those of you who don’t like the look of this particular handset, Samsung hopes to release an additional 5 Open Market Handset compliant phones in India by next year.
