I’d like to be as objective as possible when comparing any new smartphone with the iPhone. It’s really difficult since I’m a fan of the iPhone. When comparing ‘Insert Name’ with the iPhone I’d go “and the iPhone wins in a second”.
Samsung Instinct is coming via Sprint this June. When? June 20th. Talk about a false start. If I were in charge of Samsung I’d be doing some serious screaming at the marketing department. Why release the Instinct so late after the WWDC 2008? Giving Apple a head start?

Classy is just another word that describes Samsung’s Ultra Series and the Soul B is definitely not an exception. Samsung drops the 5-megapixel camera and the slider form factor from the Samsung Soulto accommodate 3 megapixels and a candybar design, although I wish they had carried over the Magic Touch keypad technology seen on the Soul, which changes colors depending on where you navigate. With LED flash accompanying the camera, this cell phone also has 1GB of internal memory with a microSD slot for further storage needs. Connectivity seems to be top-notch with tri-band GSM support and HSDPA, but I see no mention of WiFi, assuming Bluetooth is already onboard.
The Samsung Soul B will be available in Germany around June in a choice of five colors. No mention is made of a price yet.

L870 is the next S60 Samsung phone. It will hit the European stores this August while the US customers will be able to get one later this year.
From what we can see from the picture the L870 is a stainless steel slide phone. It will feature a 2.4 inch QVGA, MP3 player with stereo Bluetooth, FM radio with RDS and a 3 megapixel camera. Although it’s definitely a S60 phone, the spec sheet says a “Safari” browser will be inside. That would be at least weird, wouldn’t it? L870 will have the S60 Webkit-based browser to begin with. After you buy it you’ll be able to do with it what you want.

If you are in the market for a new CDMA phone, Samsung has an option open for you. The new SPH-W4950 packs a lot in its slider form factor with support for CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev.A. Although it can’t be called a media powerhouse, the W4950 has covered the bases with an mp3/video player and a 1.3-megapixel camera with a secondary VGA for video calling. In addition to the 40MB of internal memory, the W4950 has a microSD/TransFlash memory slot to store your favorite numbers or the pics of your loved ones. The phone can remain on standby for up to 165 hours and provide up to 4.5 hours of talktime.
There is no word on availability or pricing yet, but I don’t think we will have to wait too long before we hear more.

Steel yourself for this mid-ranger from Samsung called…the Steel. With its brushed metal finish and the black plastic base, the Steel certainly lives up to its name, though at the cost of being similar to the Samsung Soul. The navpad certainly is alike, but lacks the interactivity that the Soul’s pad has. The slider has a 2.2-inch display, small but enough to watch videos or pictures shot on its 3-megapixel camera. Though the details are scarce, we do know that the Steel has a microSD slot, support for tri-band GSM with EDGE and HSDPA data transfer, and while can only guess that it will have some media capabilities, Samsung has let it slip that the phone will boast a DAB radio among other things.
The Samsung Steel is expected to land in the UK exclusively through Vodafone this June. So we don’t have to wait too long to know more…

Well, that just about wraps up the Instinct in a nice little package now that we have the missing piece that was the release date. Now, if only we knew its price! Anyways, as we previously reported, the iPhone-cloning GPS-toting Samsung Instinct brings a big 3.1-inch touchscreen display, Sprint TV, and some EV-DO Rev. A magic. You won’t be missing out on Samsung’s famous haptic feedback either. Now if only we were privy to the pricing information before it hits the shelves on June 20th…

We first laid our eyes on the Samsung SGH-F480 and its new TouchWiz interface back in MWC 2008. We were promised a April/May release date and true to their word, Samsung has announced that the 5-megapixel shooter is now headed to Europe. No word on availability in US, but considering that it is triband GSM designed for Europe and Asia, the phone would pretty much be a dud here anyways. With the new TouchWiz UI comes support for widgets, which can be dragged on to the home screen, which wasn’t available on its predecessor, the Croix 2.0 interface. Also available are 22 different vibrations which provide haptic feedback to the touch of a finger. Otherwise, the cell phone is basically the Samsung Armani with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, video messaging, email, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth connectivity, mobile blogging, and a 5-megapixel camera equipped with auto-focus as well as image stabilization.
The SGH-F480 will be released in the European market with a graduated release in other countries, most probably Asian.

Virgin Mobile, which recently bagged the Samsung Slash phone, officially announced the addition to its line-up. A slider phone available in a compact form-factor, the phone features a basic VGA camera (I remember my Nokia 3650 which had a VGA camera in 2004) as well as Bluetooth.
Other goodies on the phone include IM, text messaging and email capability. There’s also speakerphone capability and voice-activated dialing. Preloaded games include Gameloft Jukebox and Superscape Demo. The phone measures 3.8″ x 1.8″ x 0.7″, and weighs 3 oz.
Priced at US $79.99, the Virgin Mobile Slash by Samsung is now available.

If the “i” in its name isn’t a dead giveaway, its feature set and the form factor will definitely make it clear who the Samsung SGH-i900 is competing against. The 3G iPhone isn’t that far way and if Samsung hopes to really put in a good fight, this device better be ready within the next quarter or be labeled another iPhone clone.
The SGH-i900 packs a lot in its 112×56x13mm size, no bigger than Apple’s successful iPhone. The form factor is similar to the iPhone with a huge 3.5-inch touchscreen (multi-touch?) and were it not for the answer and disconnect keys on either side of the navigation key, the prototype would have screamed knockoff. The 3.5-inch LCD has a display resolution of 400×240 pixels. Samsung has thrown in 16GB of onboard storage and also a microSD slot, which might be overkill for some given the amount of storage space already on the device. The phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and has GPS, a 5-megapixel camera with a secondary VGA cam for video calling, Bluetooth 2.2 with A2DP support, FM radio, TV-out, and WiFi.
Wow! Now that’s what I would truly call an iPhone killer!

Samsung U940 Glyde has finally arrived at Verizon wireless after a long wait. We told you what’s happening and now we are going to take a closer look. One of the most discussed events of the week was the release of the new HTC Touch Diamond in London, so Samsung’s Glyde might have missed all the attention. So I was telling you how this phone is a possible competitor to current smart phones. Let’s see some of its most important features and compare them to the iPhone. We won’t be going through all the specs we gave you yesterday; you don’t have all day to read right?
Do we like the design? It’s slick and slim, resembling the iPhone. Well, the U940 is based on the former F700 which came out before the iPhone. Did Apple get inspired by Samsung?

We were waiting for this baby from Samsung to be sold already by Verizon for a couple of months now. The U940 Glyde can be a decent competitor to Apple’s iPhone or the newly launched HTC Touch Diamond. And it’s quite affordable (with a two-years plan) at $249 after $50 rebate.
Let’s look at some of the features you might inquire about:
What do you think? Is this Samsung U940 Glyde going to keep up with the others?
