Otter Products announced two new models in the Defender line-up of protective cases. The OtterBox 1934, designed for BlackBerry Pearl and the OtterBox 1935 for BlackBerry Curve allow full access to the trackball and camera, and fit the RIM phones neatly. Rugged in nature, you can easily carry the case on your travels. With three protective layers, your BlackBerry is safe from scratches, bumps and even drops.
According to Otter, layer 1 is a protective clear membrane for the screen and keyboard, preventing dust and dirt from getting into your phone, while layer 2 is essentially a high-impact polycarbonate shell. The third layer wraps the silicone skin over the device to absorb bump and shock. The OtterBox 1934 and 1935 also come with acoustic vents that cover and protect the microphone, headset and speaker phone openings.
For easy carrying, there’s also a swivel belt clip. Priced at US $49.95, the OtterBox cases are now available.

Research In Motion, (RIM) makers of the BlackBerry Smartphone, and Facebook are joining forces. A specially modified version of Facebook is now available for Blackberry users. This service, that is only available to T-Mobile subscribers, has been modified to take advantage of the Blackberry’s push-based architecture. In fact, this Facebook version is almost identical to its PC counterpart, which includes a whole slew of options, such as but not limited to image uploading, wall to wall messaging, poking, and more. RIM president Mike Lazaridis explained the similar agenda that the two companies share. “Facebook and RIM share a vision for enhanced mobile communications and social networking based on open, standards-based platforms and this has allowed us to produce a rich mobile application for Facebook users that leverages the push-based architecture, multimedia features and industry-leading usability of the BlackBerry solution.” Industry experts believe that almost 19% of those who use the PC version of Facebook will make use of the wireless adaptation.

If the rumors are correct, the BlackBerry 8120 will be the forthcoming update to the original BlackBerry Pearl, and it will be available in a rainbow of colors. It seems as though RIM is taking a new direction in the marketing of the BlackBerry line. First, we got the BlackBerry Pearl, which was a more consumer-friendly design, rather than the BlackBerry’s stereotypical business-oriented designs. And now, they are targeting the consumer set even more with the launch of the updated Pearl, which will be available in a range of colors.
Rogers Wireless will be launching the updated BlackBerry Pearl, with a US carrier getting a 1 week jumpstart. Chances are, it’ll be T-Mobile getting this new model first. The rumored colors will be black, red, titanium, blue, and gold, and the device is expected to launch in September. Expected features include a 2-megapixel camera, GPS, and WiFi.

Rodgers Wireless now offers the RIM’s Red Blackberry Pearl handset. It is priced at $249 with a 3 year contract. There was no official announcement, but it seems that Rogers and RIM forgot to release information regarding the Red Blackberry Pearl now available in Canada.

Deviating from the number based “naming” system that RIM is typically known for, the world was introduced to the Blackberry Pearl, a much more consumer-friendly name. And now it seems we might have another “name” branded Blackberry.
The makers of the upcoming Blackberry 8300 who owned the domain Blackberry8300.com have also snatched up the domain BlackberryCurve.com, which the first one now directs to. The Blackberry, which has been an object of obssession for the business set for years, is seeking out an expanded user base. The Blackberry Curve is set to meld the business and consumer worlds of the Blackberry. Nice. I kind of like this new naming system.

Today, Mexens Technology announced the availability of Navizon on Blackberry devices. Navizon is the company’s flagship software, which allows Blackberry owners to see where they are on a map and easily find their way to their next destination, see the location of friends or coworkers on their Blackberry, and search for businesses around where they are.
Navizon is not carrier-dependent, and can be used on any Blackberry device, regardless of carrier. It works on any wireless network in any country. The coolest thing about Navizon is that it doesn’t require a GPS device (which can be pricey). Navizon’s Virtual GPS runs off wireless signals triangulation, which is able to spot your location on a map. This technology thus brings a multitude of location-based services available on your phone.
