Philips V808 Android Phone

What do you know; I have one more Android phone to show you today. This time it’s the V808 which happens to be the second Android phone coming from Philips. Hear that Sony Ericsson? Other manufacturers are launching more than one Android phone this year!

The V808 has been made official and it’s probably going to be available really soon in China from China Mobile. The V808 will feature a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS, GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, microSD support, widget support and music and video players support. As you can see the V808 doesn’t come with any special features which means that it shouldn’t cost that much once it becomes available. Pricing details and arrival dates haven’t been specified yet and we have no idea if other markets will get this Philips Android phone anytime soon.

With all the Android talk today, what Android phone are you planning on buying?

Philips never lets us forget the fact that it’s still making handsets. And some of its latest cell phones look better than you’d expect. The latest models are the X806 and the C702 but you might have a rough time getting one since they’ll most likely go to China.

The X806 will sport quad-band GSM/GPRS, a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio, 47MB (nice round number) of internal memory upgradeable via microSD card. The C702 knows how to handle CDMA 1x connectivity and it comes with a 3.4-inch touchscreen display, 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS, 70MB of internal memory also upgradeable via microSD cards.

How much would you pay to get one of these Philips handsets?

  • Earlier this week a few images of what was supposed to be Phillips‘ first Android powered mobile phone, entitled the V808, hit the web.

Well today, we now have some more details on the device that seem to be a bit more confirmed. We now know that the V808 will run OPhone OS, a China Mobile developed operating system based on Android, and launch exclusivly on China Mobile.

Now there’s no word on when, if ever, we will see this phone released worldwide but chances are, if it does, we will see it running Android as opposed to OPhone OS.

Well this is a nice surprise! Philips’ first Android phone has apparently been captured on camera and we have these leaked pictures available for you. The V808 should come with a 3.2-inch HVGA display and a 3.2-megapixel camera with video recording. We have no other details so far but we’re looking forward to see Philips official V808 announcement. Too bad the phone wasn’t actually turned on in any of these pictures! Maybe the battery hasn’t really been installed yet…

When we say Xenium, we know you start thinking of a phone that provides one heck of a battery life and of course you are not wrong there.  The Philips Xenium X650 slider can do a month of standby and 8 hours of talktime, and seems to be molded from the same clay as the others, which means that although the battery life is laudable, the handset falls flat in the rest of the categories.  The Xenium X650 features a 262k-color 2.4-inch TFT LCD display, 30MB of internal memory, FM radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, an okay 3.2 megapixel camera, and GSM 900/1800/1900MHz network support with GPRS.  Not exactly a badass even in the mid-range world, but if it’s uninterrupted communication that’s needed, the Xenium X650 is what you need.  No information on when and where this will pop up, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it stayed behind the Asian boundaries like the Xenium phones.

We have a new trial for you and this time it involves Tsera which claims that it has invented the touchpad and hence everyone else using it will have to pay for the privilege. Tsera says that Apple, Microsoft, LG, Philips, Bang & Olufsen, iriver, Coby, Cowon and Meizu are all in violation of a patent owned by the company. The patent is called “Methods and apparatus for controlling a portable electronic device using a touchpad.” And nobody has paid any money to Tsera for using the technology. Given the big names involved in this huge trial we should expect Tsera to walk away with lots of settlements cash in its pocket.

    Philips Lays Off 6,000 Workers

Similar to Toyota, Philips Electronics will be announcing its first quarterly loss after almost six years. And whenever there is a loss, you know it has something to do with the economy. To be able to offset it, job cuts are bound to follow and that is exactly what Philips has declared.

He announced that in addition to the 3,000 job reductions made in the fourth quarter, a further 6,000 would be cut during the current year.

The company, which sold most of its semiconductor business in 2006, declined to comment on possible job losses in the UK, where it employs 2,500 people, although all its worldwide operations are expected to be subject to the €400 million cost-cutting programme announced today.

The previous Philips GoGear MP3 Players we mentioned - SA5225 and SA6045 - were pretty good, but Philips has gone downhill and released a lower-end device codenamed GoGear SA2940.

According to Philips, this is their first portable media player that uses a OLED screen that can display colors, a bit strange to say the least. Anyhow, the GoGear SA2940 will boast 4GB of storage capacity, and support for MP3, WMA, and WAV files.

The Philips Luxe MP3 player featured in the picture above is a simple music player offering 2GB of memory, 10 hours of battery life and a small LCD screen. But this gadget is a double agent. It will also work as a Bluetooth 2.1 headset which will get you 100 hours of standby time, an FM radio and great sound quality. It will stop the music to take incoming calls if you were wondering. So yes, this might be a nice addition to the gadgets you already have bought for your handsets.

The device will arrive in Singapore next month and it will cost around $94. Looking forward for it to hit other markets too!

The E100 is a simple Philips MP3 player phone. I hope it can at least make some calls. It has a built-in music player and that’s about it. It’s simple in design and it kind of reminds me of a Nokia XpressMusic phone.

The phone has a 1.8 inch 160 x 128 screen, GSM/GPRS support, FM radio, 2MB of internal memory and microSD support. The phone will be available in Asia for now and it will cost about $60.

    Philips Announces the Xenium X600

Philips has lots of electronic devices which are really great but for some reason they keep making cell phones too. The Xenium X600 is the latest model announced. It’s an entry level phone which doesn’t have any significant features to show off. You will get a 2 megapixel camera, GSM/EDGE and Bluetooth support. There’s space for a microSD memory card and the battery will get you about 9 hours of talk time.

The clamshell phone will at least get you some decent music but don’t expect more from it. Check with Philips or your local carrier for pricing and availability.

Philips Xenium 9@9q is not only a weird named cell phone but a really simple one too. It’s now available in Russia starting from 4499 rubles or about $200 depending on carrier offers and plans.

The Philips Xenium 9@9q is a simple device meant for phone calls and SMS texting. In other words it basically does what a cell phone was expected to do, with just a little extra features on top.

The battery seems promising with up to 1 month standby. When it comes to phone calls it lasts for up to 9 hours of continuous conversation. The main display has 262K colors support, while the external display is a simpler one, only showing notifications of new messages, incoming calls and missed ones and battery status.

I did say there are just a few extra features on top of the basic stuff. You have a camera with recording capabilities, an MP3 player that plays 22 hours of continuous music. There’s EDGE, WAP and Bluetooth and a microSD slot for up to 2GB memory cards.

  • The X800 is impressive with its huge edge-to-edge screen and its sleek dark looks, but that would only appeal premium cell phone users who want more than just phone calls and text messages. Now, Philips is looking to tap the low-range market with the announcement of two new phones, the 198 and 199, which are affordable and functional. Although both the 198 and 199 are similar in their candybar form factor and simple design, the 199 is a step-up over the 198 with an FM Radio . Otherwise, both the phones have the same 1.5 inch display of 62k colors, a four-way navigation key, SMS/MMS, and T9 text input. The miniUSB support is a mystery though, as there is no way to expand memory and being low end, there probably won’t be any substantial storage integrated. All this runs off a 800 mAh battery which can provide up to 5 hours of talktime and 20 days on standby. Only dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz frequencies are supported along with GPRS and WAP connectivity. The three games onboard add a flavor of entertainment to these otherwise ho-hum devices.

The Philips 198 and 199 will be available for now in Russia at a price of $62 and $70 respectively. Now that’s a steal!

    Phillips X800 Is Official

    x8001.JPG

Phillips has finally announced the X800, this new edge to edge touchscreen phone. The timing couldn’t be better to do it with the regular iPhone shortage around the world, the new BlackBerry Bold release, the HTC Touch Diamond coming out and the new iPhone rumors spreading more and more. And all these things are happening as we speak so let’s welcome the X800 to the ballgame.

Let’s look at some numbers here:

    2G Network GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
    ype TFT touchscreen, 256K colors
    240 x 400 pixels (Wide QVGA), 2.9 inches
    microSD (TransFlash)
    GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
    Bluetooth v2.0 w
    USB support
Camera: 2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels with autofocus and video
    Built-in handsfree
    Battery: Standard battery, Li-Ion

Ok, I feel like something is missing from the X800… Didn’t hear any 3G? HSDPA? EVDO? EDGE? Safe to say this Phillips X800 might compete with the regular old iPhone.

The touch mania never ends. The latest to enter the already congested market headed by the Apple iPhone, is the Xenium 800 from Philips. Although the Xenium series is known for its long-lasting battery life , sometimes up to a month, the Xenium 800 is no less than any other touchscreen phone out there, being even better than some. But of course, given the sparsity of some real info, we really can’t vouch for that. What we do know is that the cell phone packs a WQVGA e2e (edge to edge) screen covering almost all of the front bezel and runs on an unknown operating system. And that the device has WiFi. That’s where the details stop, but be sure to check back with us when we have some more!
