It’s not an official version yet but at least you get the chance of playing with a totally new Google Voice client on your Palm Pre phone. Apple has already banned the application from its App Store but iPhone users will still be able to use it if they’re willing to jailbreak the phone. Palm doesn’t seem to have anything against Google Voice yet but that doesn’t mean Pre users can use the official application. Instead they can install and start using the unofficial dkGoogleVoice app. Sure it might have bugs and everything but at least you have a Google Voice version to play with until the real thing will be available.

VOXOFON releases a mobile voice over Internet application for the Palm Pre, marking the fourth app developed by the company for smartphones. The new VOXOFON app allows user to make international calls at lower rates where the mobile phone has a good signal with no monthly subscription fees needed.
Beginning at 1.3 cents per minute, with no additional fees, VOXOFON international calling services allow customers to call using their smart phone, computer, land line, or a cell phone. The VOXOFON app is expected to be at the Palm App Catalog later this year.

Sure, Sprint may be in the process or purchasing Virgin Mobile USA to the tune of $483 million but that doesn’t mean its all peaches for the carrier.
Recent reports suggest that not only did they lose $384 million for Q2 of this year, but they also lost 257,000 subscribers. Make not that all of this happened right when Sprint took the Palm Pre under its wing.
So what is to happen to Sprint? Will they be on a steady decline or will the purchase of Virgin Mobile give them the boost they need? Only time will tell.

For the many football fanatics, the NFL Mobile Live application is now available for the Palm Pre. This means that all Palm Pre owners can now gain access to NFL updates which should be fitting at this time since most of the NFL teams are in training camp.
Actually, customers can automatically get the app once they update to the Palm webOS 1.1.0. Most NFL teams are now preparing for the coming season and we all know how popular American football is and the large following it has.
The NFL Mobile Live app is available for most Sprint handsets with no additional charge. Plans start at $69.99. This includes Simply Everything, which combines unlimited nationwide voice, messaging and extensive data services for just $99.99 per month.
For people who want to get other handsets, they can still get the NFL Mobile Live by adding a Data Pack, starting at $15 per month.

If you’re not willing to wait for Pre developers to come up with new applications then there’s good news for you. There’s at least a way for you to install and enjoy homebrew applications on Palm’s newest phone. In fact, we have two solutions for you!
You can get a desktop app, the WebOS Quick Install which will work on Mac, PC or Linux and will let your drag and drop applications straight to your Pre.
The other solution is called fileCoaster and it will let you install IPKs straight on the phone. While these ingenious solutions are available out there for now, you should make sure you take advantage of them at once since Palm might decide to somehow block them with a future firmware update!

Just yesterday it was spotted that the Palm Pre is now selling for $99 with a 2-year contract on Sprint. Today, we get confirmation that Verizon will in fact be selling Palm’s newest handset for their service early next year.
This news comes to use from an investor conference call that went down earlier today where they also announced that most of their earnings are up compared to last year.
However, the call wasn’t all good news as Verizon has stated that due to a 21% drop in profits they are going to cut close to 8,000 workers. Bummer.

Will Sprint sell the Pre for $99 on contract too?

If you’re looking for a Palm Pre in Canada then it looks like Bell is the carrier to go to. We have just heard that Bell will be the exclusive Bell carrier for a six-month period. In case you don’t exactly want to become a Bell customer then you’ll have to wait a short while until everyone else will get the Pre too. It’s funny how this six months exclusive keeps popping up. Sprint was rumored to have a similar agreement with Palm but Dan Hesse, Sprint’s CEO, denied everything. Will Bell deny the six-month exclusivity too?

BlackBerrys and Macs haven’t played so well together in the past. However, that is all about to change with RIM recently announcing that their BlackBerry Desktop Manager software will officially be ported to OS X this coming september.
Below is a list of features in the upcoming software:
iTunes, syncing, huh? We’ve all come to know how Apple reacts when other handset manufacturers use their software. It seems like it will be only a matter of time before Apple will shut out BlackBerrys just like they did with the Palm Pre.

Back in June, Apple warned Palm that they would only provide iTunes syncing capabilities for their in-house handsets. This notice was released after Palm announced the ability of their Pre to sync up with Apple’s software.
Well, it looks like that syncing will be no more as iTunes 8.2.1 comes onto the scene as PreThinking has confirmed the feature is no longer there.
How will Palm respond to this? Will they update the Pre’s firmware to once again allow syncing or will they just sit back and accept defeat? We’ll keep you posted.

Have you seen the last Palm Pre ad? Well just play the video above. “Go With The Flow” is the name of this simple ad campaign and it will not surprise you with anything. The Pre is a very dependable device but the ad doesn’t really let you see all that magic. Would you buy the Pre after viewing just that single ad? That’s of course assuming that you haven’t heard about the phone so far! The commercial is following that first Palm Pre ad, entitled “Flow”, which was more alive and definitely meant to make an impression. “Go With The Flow” will not be the kind of commercial you talk about with your friends. Nothing really happens in it.
On a different note, it looks like Palm wants to indirectly promote Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing. Is that the purpose of this ad? Will Google or Apple react in any way?

Look what the cat dragged in! A survey is apparently showing how Palm Pre users are frustrated about the fact that their favorite phone is not able to produce an on-screen keyboard. That sounds somewhat familiar. In the past we’ve heard how iPhone users were unhappy about not having an actual keyboard to attach to the handset. And if you remember, it took a while until the first Android phone from HTC, the G1, got its on-screen keyboard only later. G1 users were also unhappy with the lack of a virtual keyboard.
The problem with the Pre is that users don’t want to slide that actual keyboard out whenever they need to type something. So what do you say Palm? Are you ready to add a virtual keyboard to that marvelous webOS?

One of the hardest things pharmacists and physicians have to do is to explain the various drugs that they prescribe. Perhaps if there were only a handful of these in the market then it would be easier for them to manage. But the fact remains that with the various health issues that a person incurs, corresponding drug/s and medications exist. In fact, there is no clear number since they are quite many, making it close to impossible to remember all of them.
But now, help is on the way with this OTC Drug Module released by Epocrates Inc. The availability of this new reference is especially timely given the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s recent review of a potential overdose risk for patients combining multiple OTC products with the same active ingredients, such as acetaminophen.
Among the various uses of this new software compatible with iPhones, Blackberries, Palms and Windows Mobile include:

Those of you living in Canada can now win a Palm Pre from Bell. All you have to do is complete a form and hope you will be one of the lucky winners. And if you don’t win, at least you’re going to find out how much Bell is charging for the Pre. Why is that you ask? Well the law requires Bell to divulge the MSRP price for any phone offered as a prize in a contest. And that’s how we know that Bell will sell the Palm Pre for $650 CAD which is pretty close to what Sprint is charging for the Pre in the USA.

Rumors have begun circulating the internet that suggest the Palm Pre’s webOS will be getting updated to version 1.1 within the next 30 days.
Details are somewhat scarce but BGR reports the following features are rumored:
Doesn’t sound too exciting? Yeah, well, that’s because it’s not as Palm is clearly focusing on making version 1.1 a security concious one. Let’s just hope that Palm hurries up and gets their App Catalog rolling because they have a lot of catching up to do.

Are you happy with your new Palm Pre? What about the battery? Does it offer you enough juice between chargers? Well if you feel you deserve more power then you should definitely check out the Innocell extended battery made by Seido. The new battery will offer you about 1,350mAh which is 20% more than the regular Pre battery. That means that you’ll be able to use your new Pre anywhere from 7.25 to 9.5 hours. Curios about the size of the new battery? You’ll be surprised to know that the Innocell is the exact same size as the original. The battery is available for $45 and it’s already available. Are you getting it?

The GSM Palm Pre is closing in and Europeans will finally be able to purchase it. Spanish carrier Movistar will launch the new Palm phone from the looks of this press photo. Considering that Movistar is owned by Telefonica, and Telefonica signed an exclusivity agreement with Palm, we were expecting it to launch the Pre in Spain, just like O2 will launch it in the UK. Let’s home that the phone will be available sooner rather than later. The press release says that:
Palm Pre is scheduled to be available initially in the UK, Ireland and Germany exclusively on the O2 network, and in Spain exclusively on the Movistar network, in time for the holidays.
What does that “in time for the holidays” mean actually? We’ll be looking forward for some prices and some clear release dates and we’ll get back to you once we get them
